Carbon  Conspiracy  ?

Some 50 years back , it used to take 25 years for an industry to get obsolete

10 years back , this period came down to 5 years

At the rate at which technology is advancing today , it seems an industry can become obsolete , even before it is born !

Here is proof :

·         India has decided to completely change-over to Electric Vehicles ( EV ) by 2030

·         Today , we have over 200 million petrol / diesel vehicles

·         Some 10 million more are getting added each year

·         That means , possibly some 300 million will get replaced by 2030 ( as EV )

·         Those 300 million EV will need , at least , 18 lakh  “ EV Battery Charging Stations “ to come up , all over the country ( - a “ Re-born Industry “  ? )

Today , we have , a total of 60,000 fuel retail pumps in India

On average , these take about 10 minutes to fill up a vehicle tank , but a EV battery charging station would take 300 minutes ( 5 hours ) to charge a Li-ion battery ( ie : 30 times longer ! )

So , even if the vehicles are willing to queue up for 5 hours , that would require 30 times more EV charging stations ! 18 lakhs  !

Estimated current investment in this industry = Rs 6.5 lakh*crore

Now , if we need 30 times more EV charging stations ( as compared to present ), that would also mean that the investment required too , would go up 30 times !

That is Rs 195 lakh*crore  !

·         But , even before the first hundred Battery Charging Stations have come up , technology is getting ready to “ Obsolete “ the very concept of a battery-charging station !

·         In May this year , ISRO demonstrated a modified OMNI van with a Solar Panel mounted roof-top , which would continuously charge a ( relatively ) much smaller Lithium Ion battery , as long as that vehicle is exposed to the Sunlight !

·         At night , this EV can be charged at home ( thru domestic electric outlet )

If all of those 300 million EV were to implement ISRO technology , there would be NO NEED for those 18 lakh Battery Charging Stations !

A still-born industry ?  You bet !

But a infrastructure saving of Rs 195 lakh*crore  ! !

But then how come ,

·         despite such a  REVOLUTIONARY  BREAKTHROUGH , there is no further mention in media of what progress has ISRO made to commercialize this technology during the last 6 months ?

·         there is no response to my emails from ISRO / Minister for Transport / Society for Indian Automotive Manufacturers ( SIAM ) / leading car manufacturers …etc  ?

·         there is no mention of this INNOVATION on ISRO’s own web site ?

I wonder , if there is some DILEMMA which is holding back the release of the “ EV CHANGE-OVER ROAD-MAP “ , jointly prepared by the Transport Ministry and NITI Aayog – and which the Car Industry is awaiting with bated breath ?

Are following vested interests wanting to “ kill “ ISRO technology , in order to survive ?

·         existing Petrol / Diesel Pumps ( 95 % owned by HP / IOC etc )

·         importers of Li-ion Batteries ( large ones – which will not be required ) ?

·         companies who have drawn up investment plans for the manufacture of those large Li-ion Batteries ?

·         existing Car Manufacturers who have configured their EV offerings around those large batteries ?

Those of you who wish to learn ( although, just a little ) about the ISRO technology, may want to look up :

Whatever the underlying reasons for this “ Deafening Silence “ , it is not late for ISRO to come forward to share its “ Design / Drawings / Documents “ with millions of MSME by enabling them to freely download the same from :
