Reinvigorating Rooftop Solar Power

Main constraint for rooftop solar power generation is availability of big enough roof ( terrace ) area

To generate 20 KW, you need 2000 sq ft of solar panels .

10 flat owners (in 5 story house ), each needing 20 KW, would need 20,000 sq ft of terrace - not available

On top of that, power will not get generated if there is no sun-light from visible spectrum ( on a cloudy day )

Now imagine this :

Ø  If we can generate power from UV ( Ultra Violet ) spectrum which is abundant even on a cloudy day

Ø  If a panel which captures UV, and converts UV into visible spectrum, is sandwiched along with a standard Solar PV panel ( which can , therefore generate electricity even on a cloudy day )

Ø  Such transparent sandwich panels were to replace normal glass windows of a building

Under such a scenario, terrace area will not remain a limitation !

All the windows of all the flats ( apartments ) can generate power – enough for each flat

This could be an ideal solution for many modern high rise buildings whose walls are made entirely of glass

 A 27 year old Philipino young man, Carvey Maigue [caehren@jenraygenre.com ] has just won Dyson Prize of 2020 ( from 1800 entries ) for this invention

Extract :

Inspired by the plight of farmers in the Philippines who often lose much of their produce due to severe weather disruptions, the invention aimed to find a use for crops often left to waste.

The material is made from the damaged fruit and vegetable crops and converts UV light into renewable energy.

James Dyson, founder and chief engineer at Dyson said the material was " impressive in the way it makes sustainable use of waste crops"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dear Shri R K Singhji

( Minister for New and Renewable Energy  /  raj.ksingh@gov.in / rajkumar.singh19@sansad.nic.in, ),

I urge you to consider  :

Ø  Every year Indian farms generate 500 MILLION tons of “ Agriculture Straw “ , of which , 362 million tons are “ burnt on the farms “ (  causing huge air pollution ) , leaving a surplus of 141 million tons

PUSA Institute has already developed a process to decompose the agricultural waste into organic manure which is currently being sprayed in farms of Delhi

May be PUSA could replicate the “  Conversion Process “developed by Carvey Maigue

Ø  Circulating this information to the Solar Panel Manufacturers Association of India, urging it to get in touch with Carvey Maigue. The Association may be asked to seek help from one of the following Techology Evaluation Committees set up by the Central Government, for assisting in the evaluation of Carvey’s innovation for mass production

Ø  In short term, it may protect our local PV panel manufacturers from Chinese imports of PV panels ( approx. 75 % of our annual need ) by imposing a high safeguard Customs Duty but in the long term only thing that can protect them is for them to innovate by employing a technology which is superior to the one used by the Chinese. It is very heartening that this sentiment is reflected in your following article appearing in to-day’s Economic times ;

Power Minister R K Singh decodes India’s renewed vigour in Renewable Energy  /  26 Nov 2020

Extract :

#    To curb dumping of imported solar PV cells and modules by some

       countries, a safeguard duty has been imposed

        Upcoming policies to support manufacturing will leverage ,

        #  GLOBAL TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES

        #  map LOCAL CAPABILITIES, and

        #  strive to indigenize entire value chains, including access to

            CRITICAL RAW  MATERIALS

Ø  Without doubt, by now, the Chinese PV panel manufacturers have heard about Carvey Maigue and may be offering him a down payment of $ 10 million and a royalty payment of 5 % , for sole world-wide licensing his technology. We must contact Carvey without loss of time

How many Mobile Apps will you ban ?

Govt just banned 43 more Chinese Apps

-       for engaging in activities prejudicial to India's sovereignty

Govt press release does not say but one reason being advanced ( unofficially ) is :

These Chinese Apps are continuously collecting / compiling / stealing , personal-private data of its users

That raises the question :

Are there any Apps which do NOT engage in such activities ?

Quick ( and fairly accurate ) answer is : NO .  All of these compile such data about its users !

Including just released Google App :  Task Mate

- which I praised in my yesterday’s blog :

Human Resource Capital of the World

Following is the write-up re “ Permissions “ that  you must grant “ Task Mate “ :

Question :

How many of the following Apps will we ban ?

There are more than 27,701 Indian publishers on Google Play out of all 915,960 app publishers

It is time we face the reality of “ Online Life “ and accept that “ Privacy is Dead – RIP

Now , this revelation does not diminish my admiration ( for the unimaginable potential ) of Task Mate

Here is why :

It will accomplish what our Govt has been unsuccessfully trying to do for decades, viz:

Mapping existing Skills of our workforce

How ?

Each and every “ TASK “ that an Indian User of Task Mate “completes / carries out satisfactorily”, tells Google :

These are the SKILLS that XYZ person possesses

Human Resource Capital of the World ?

Context :

We can be World's Human Resource Capital', says PM Modi at 'Skill India' Launch   /  15 July 2015

Extract :

Here are the highlights of his speech:

·         Today the world is celebrating World Youth Skills Day and we are also contributing to the same.

·         Every poor Indian is my soldier. I have to win the war of over poverty with them.

·         Skills not only puts money in your pocket, it gives you self-confidence.

·         This mission is for those people who are left behind. And who are these people? People with money aren't left behind, these are the poor.

·         This initiative is not merely to fill pockets but to bring a sense of self-confidence among the poor.

·         65 per cent of the Indian population is under the age of 35. And if they don't have skill, they will become a challenge for us rather than an opportunity.

·         Through this mission we want to fulfil dreams of people and we want to do it in a structured way, taking states together.

·         We have to create structures and mechanisms to nurture youngsters, enabling them to find employment.

·         We want that a person should be capable of multiple activities (skills).

·         We have not restricted ourselves to skill development, we've focused on entrepreneurship.

·         We want to give opportunities to apprentices who want to become entrepreneurs.

·         We have to make all our training institutions dynamic. Technology is changing so rapidly that it is necessary to be dynamic to remain relevant.

·         We have to map the strategy for the next 10 years of development.

·         We have to have a futuristic vision, need to think what technology will be there in the next 10 years.

·         Matching job creation with industry demand is the key to end unemployment.

I congratulate Rajiv Pratap Rudy and his team for the manner in which they've taken this ahead.

===================================================

Target which Shri Modiji had set ( during launch of  “ Skill India “ , 5 years back, was to impart skills to some  400 million young Indians. I have no idea how much of this target got achieved

But, Shri Modiji also said : We have to create structures and mechanisms  …. enabling them to find employment

I just came across following “ Structure / Mechanism “ which might enable India’s youth to “ find work / tasks to be carried out remotely “ – and, in the process “ Earn Money “ :

 Task Mate (Early Access)   /  Google Apps / taskmate-contactus@google.com

Task Mate (beta) is limited to selected testers at the moment. Please only download this app if you have a referral code as we are unable to extend further invites at this time.

* Find tasks nearby

* Complete a task to begin earning

* Cash out your earnings

Task Mate is a beta app made by Google that provides access to a variety of simple tasks, posted by businesses around the world.

For example, take a photo of a nearby restaurant, answer survey questions about your preferences, or help translate sentences from English to your local language.

You can participate in tasks that you are interested in, or choose to skip tasks. Tasks can be completed any time, from anywhere.

You will be paid in local currency for the tasks that you complete accurately and you will need an account with a third party payments processor.

When you’re ready to cash out, simply register your e-wallet or account with our payment partner in our app, then visit your profile page and hit the “cash out” button. You can then withdraw your earnings in your local currency.

Please note - this app is in beta, as we continue to learn more about how to provide additional earning opportunities through crowdsourcing.

===================================================

Dear Shri Ravishankar  Prasadji,

I urge you to ask Sundar Pichai ( CEO - Google ) to give preference to young Indians for participating in this BETA version

If millions of Indians , sitting in their homes with a Smart phone and WiFi connection can start completing BILLIONS of TASKS posted by thousands of Companies from around the World , then we could truly become that “ Human resource Capital of the World “ as envisage by Shri Modiji , 5 years ago
