Four Sides of a Coin ?

25 million people of Syria wish , their coin had just two sides , even if it meant :

Heads I win , tails you lose !

Assad representing the " Heads " and ISIL representing the " Tails "

But they are not so lucky !

Their coin has four sides , the third being " Russia " and the fourth being " US " , both raining tons of bombs on their homes when Assad and ISIL await their turn !

No matter which side of this coin turns up , it always spells DEATH for the poor people of Syria

And they are asking these merchants of death :

From whom are you trying to save us ?

Do you realize that if all of you keep up your PROXY FIGHT for another 2 years , there will be none of us left , to be " saved " ?

And it is not only the Syrians

These PROXY WARS are being fought in Iraq / Afghanistan / Pakistan / Yemen / Nigeria / CAR / Sudan / Congo / Lebanon / Jordan / Turkey / Libya

The entire underbelly of Europe is on fire with groups of citizens fighting a so called " Civil War " , on behalf of other countries having secret agendas ( local Oil / Natural Resources / Military bases etc )

Have you ever wondered :

Most of these countries do NOT have any factories to produce Battle Tanks / Heavy Artillery / Missiles / AK 47 rifles / Rocket propelled Grenades etc  !

Many do not even manufacture simple rifles / pistols and bullets  !

So , who is supplying these weapons to people who don't have money to even buy a bread ?

And , if they have no money to pay for these armaments , who pays for them ?

Answer :

Of course , Foreign Powers are giving away billions of dollars of arms to these " CIVIL WAR FACTIONS " , free of cost  !

Sometimes , to all the " factions " , in turn !

The Arms Lobbies in these Foreign countries are so strong that they are blackmailing their governments / politicians / legislators , by saying :

" If you stop buying arms from us , thousands of our citizens will lose jobs .

In times when our local economy is shrinking and unemployment is rampant , you will be committing " harakiri " by stopping us from illegally exporting these arms "

Now , no politician wants to commit harakiri

He would rather let a poor Syrian commit suicide !

What these shortsighted politicians do not know ( or do not care to admit ) is that , within next 5 years , Europe will get run over by 10 million migrants

And no fence / Maginot Line , will stop them !

An " Aadhar " for Corporate ?

How many types of  NUMBERS, do Indian Companies need to register and acquire , to do business ?

Writing in MINT ( 02 May 2016 ), Narayan Ramchandran quotes Manish Sabharwal , who has researched and listed the following :

#   Corporate Identity Number...........................................   ( 21 digits )

#   Tax-payer Identification Number for commercial taxes......  ( 11 digits )

#   Service Tax Number...... ( Alpha-Numeric ) ....................  (  15 digits )

#   Permanent Account Number - PAN  ( Alpha-Numeric )........ (  10 digits )

#   Central Excise Number..................................... ( PAN + 2 Characters )

#   Provident Fund Number .................( Alpha-Numeric )...... (  11 digits  )

#   Profession Tax Registration Certificate ( Numeric )...............  ( 9 digits )

#   Profession tax Enrollment Certificate    ( Numeric ).............    ( 9 digits )

#   Income tax Deduction/Calculation Number ( Alpha-Numeric ) ( 10 digits )

#   ESIC Number ( Numeric )................................................  ( 17 digits )

#   Labour Department Registration(State specific alphanumeric) (13 digits )

#   Importer-Exporter Code  ( Numeric )................................. ( 10 digits )

#   Shops/Establishment Reg Number ( alphanumeric )............  ( 20 digits )

#   Contract Labour Registration ( alphanumeric ).................. ( 15+ digits )

#   Labour Welfare Board ( Numeric ).....................................   ( 5 digits )

#   Higher Court Case Number ( Alphanumeric ).....................   ( 12 digits )

Now , CBDT and MCA are in the process of integrating their back-end operations , to provide ONE SIMPLE IDENTITY to companies, doing away with the above multiple numbers

Without doubt , this long overdue simplification will make it easy to do business in India

But , it seems , that each State will have unique number ( for each Company registered in its territory ), as far as GST is concerned

I hope , someday soon , an India Start-Up comes up with a digital solution ( pasting, a unique RFID sensor on the forehead of each child , at birth ? ) to get rid of all the CARDS , a person needs to acquire in a life-time , as mentioned in my following blog :

Raining Cards ?

Some 70 years ago , I had only one card – the Ration Card

I was using it to buy , either wheat or bread or war-disposal biscuits from a Shivaji Park ration shop in Mumbai

Now I have,

*   Driving License Card

*   Senior Citizen Card

*   Voting Card

*   Credit Card

*   PAN Card

*   Aadhar Card ( UID )

Apart from sundry cards issued by private / commercial companies and NGOs

As if this was not enough , Central Government of India wants me to carry one more card !

National Population Register ( NPR ) is all set to issue,

Resident Identity Card ( RIC )

It will contain demographic and biometric details of the owner and will be issued to 820 million adult Indians at a cost of Rs 5,552 Crores

I believe only those holding RIC will be entitled to receive subsidized food-grains under the Food Security Act

How about a card to replace all the above-mentioned cards ?

When Lawmakers Abdicate

Under our Constitution , only Legislative wing ( Lok Sabha + Rajya Sabha ) has the power to enact / repeal laws

Judiciary ( courts ) can only " interpret " the enacted laws

And , of course , strike down any enacted law which it considers " un-constitutional "

This arrangement worked fine some 50 years ago , when politics and economics of a country were fairly insulated from rest of the World

But today , economies of countries are becoming ever more dependent on one another and getting integrated tightly

International trade ( goods and services ), binds all the countries like a Spider's web ( - WWW is just a metaphor / a proxy  ! )

A thread of this web , touched upon anywhere, vibrates the entire web

Remember the CHAOS theory ?

A butterfly fluttering its wings in Brazil , brings torrential rains in India !

Political / economic / social decisions taken in one country , affect the entire World

Eg :

*  To produce more or less oil or freeze at current level

*  To impose trade tariffs to protect local manufacturers and jobs

*  To impose taxes on Foreign companies , different from on local units

*  To ban use of plastics / consumption of tobacco products

*  To accelerate generation of energy , using renewable sources

*  To prevent / limit arrival of migrants ( political or economic )

*  To build dams / impound waters of rivers flowing thru many countries

*  To lay sovereignty claims on sea-bed under Arctic / Antarctic

*  To assist local " rebels ( freedom fighters ? ) " in foreign countries

*  To sell tanks / bombs / guns / missiles etc to " friendly " regimes

*  To keep producing atmosphere polluting vehicles

I can go on and on

Any such decision ( more often, lack of decision ) , taken by any Society in the World , impacts the lives of millions of persons in other countries

And , unfortunately , the persons getting most adversely affected by such decisions , are POOR people , living in DEVELOPING countries !

Now , poor people of these affected countries ,  may have very little influence on the decisions being taken by the legislatures of other countries

So , they simply " Grin and Bear "  !

But the worst situation is when their own duly elected Members of Parliament / State Legislatures ( of their own country ) , fail to enact laws to protect them from the ill effects of the " Winds of Change " blowing thru their local economy

Eg:

Is air pollution only affecting the people of Delhi ?

Is it not as bad in cities like Mumbai / Kolkata / Chennai / Bangalore etc ?

Why are MLAs of these States not enacting laws to control pollution ?

Why is Supreme Court passing orders ( diesel vehicles / taxies ) only for Delhi ?

Does Supreme Court think that citizens of these other cities are immune to the ill effects of pollution caused by diesel vehicles ?

Why are State Legislatures happy to " pass the buck " to Supreme Court ?

That is " Abdication of Responsibility " !

Incredible India ?

No doubt , that is how India must appear to our foreign visitors , when they open any Indian Newspaper , upon landing

May be they just cannot make out why Indians ( mostly MPs and MLAs ), waste such a lot of time and energy , discussing / debating :

*   Educational qualifications of Ministers ( including PM )

*   Entry of women into temples of Lady Saints / Deities

*   What people of different religions may ( or may not ) eat

*   Nationality / Patriotism of certain Political leaders

*   By what amount they should raise their own salaries

*   Whom - and when - to provide ( or withdraw ) Z security protection

*   Why certain leading Industrialist accompany PM on foreign tours

*   Why everyone MUST sing some patriotic song to prove patriotism

*   Why " YOGA " is ( or is not ) , a religious ritual / practice

*   Why religious teachers should keep away from societal issues

And then these Foreign Tourists get amazed when they discover that , these MPs and MLAs ( and sundry politicians who failed to make it to the Parliament ) , find no time to go out / visit 350 million Drought-affected citizens in 13 states and help dig wells / ponds to preserve water and prevent farmer suicides ( approx 60 per day )

I wonder if the person who coined the slogan " Incredible India " to attract Foreign Visitors , ever envisaged this " Impact India " !

Don't be surprised if a MP sends to Lok Sabha speaker , following starred question in ZERO hour :

Will Hon Minister for Tourism explain what steps he has taken to promote India , as the ultimate destination for " Tamasha Tourism "  ?

Currency Maps of India ?

When in 1949 , George Orwell wrote his all-time classic " Nineteen  Eighty  Four " , he had not envisaged Tablets / Smart phones

So , he imagined that TV screens would keep a watch over mankind , 24 hours , like CCTV cameras

Nor did Tim Berners Lee , envisage  IoT ( Internet of Things ) or BIG DATA analytic tools ( MapReduce / Hadoop ), when he invented World Wide Web

And neither did Robert Easton , envisage RFID sensors when he invented GPS in 1967

But today , with wide-spread usage/application of these technologies, it is not difficult to envisage :

 CURRENCY  MAPS   OF  INDIA

No doubt , all of us have seen following types of Maps ( for India / Asia or for the entire World ) , on TV Channels and even on our tablets and smart phones  :

#   Weather Maps , showing :

      *  amount of rain fall ( inches / mm )

      *  location wise temperature intensity ( *C / *F )

      *  topography ( heights of mountains / depths of valleys )

      *  Cloud Formations and direction of Storms and landfall locations

      *  Wind Patterns ( velocity in km per hour )

      *  Ocean Currents in Atlantic / Pacific ( direction / speed )

      *  Ice Cover over Antarctica / Arctic Region ( sq km )

 #   Space Maps , showing :

      *  Geological formations on Moon / Mars / Mercury / Asteroids

      *  Night illumination in different parts of world as seen from Skylab

      *  Galactic formations , billions of light years away

And of course , Google Maps of all types ( including those peering into our bedrooms ! )

Given this state of art ( and of science ) , it is not difficult to envisage ,
following types of  CURRENCY  MAPS  of INDIA , showing aggregate value of Rs 500 / 1000 Currency Notes ( ie : currency density of Rs 1 million / 1 billion / 1 trillion / any figure of your liking ! ) in :

*   Any given Street / City / State

*   Premises of any Car Dealer / Jeweler Shop / Real Estate Agency / Mall /
Race Course / Builder ( any office / housing location of your choice )

 *  Any Airport ( a million Rupees in Rs 500 notes weigh only 2.2 kg ! )

 *  Any Safe Deposit Vault of any bank

With the existing technologies , it is even possible to plot the movement of Rs 500 / 1000 currency notes ( just one note or a thousand notes ) on a GPS map of India , to determine its direction and velocity ( Currency Currents )

In real time , too -  24*7  !

All of the above is possible to achieve within  6 MONTHS  , by :

*  Abolishing existing paper notes of Rs 500 / 1000

*  Replace these with plastic notes , embedded with RFID sensors

( can be embedded into existing 3 mm silver-colored  security wire )

*  Allot a unique IP V 6.0 address to each such note linked to its serial no

*  Develop / host a Technology Platform , based on GPS mapping system

*  All smart phones to carry GPS locator ( cannot be switched off )

  (  anyone carrying a Rs 500 note in wallet , also carries a Smart phone ! )

Of course , Currency Map App ( to be named, " Currency-Cure " ? ), available to general public on their smart phones , will not be able to zoom-in / drill down , under 1 sq km area, to protect individual privacy ( this can be done , only by authorized officers of Income Tax Dept / Enforcement Directorate )

If some of you think my suggestion is impractical , consider following :

A division of Master Card ( called , MasterCard Advisors ), aggregates and analyzes , 65 BILLION transactions from 1.5 BILLION card-holders in 210 countries , in order to divine , business and consumer trends !

And only 2 days back , Shri Raghuram Rajan , RBI Governor said :

"  It is because money has no odour, because it is the great equalizer , that so many people across history have been able to acquire resources and invested them to make the world we live in

Rather than prohibiting the use of money and wealth , let us think about increasing society's tolerance for its use "

Today's Hindustan Times quotes a Income Tax officers as follows :

"  The taxman will soon start matching your IT returns with your possessions
The Government has started collecting data from various sources and when this is done and the data has been sifted through , action will begin

This drive is a salient feature of the tax department's agenda to curb under-reporting of tax and expand the tax payer base in the country "

And two days back , the person who leaked PANAMA  PAPERS ( 11.5 million digitized documents ) , remarked :

"  Digitization will bring in a revolution "

I would like to add :

{ RFID sensors in Currency Notes  +  IP V 6.0 URL +  GPS +  HADOOP  } ,
will end BLACK MONEY and CORRUPTION , in India

( without needing to pass any bill in Rajya Sabha ! )

I do hope , Shri Arun Jaitley-ji will take note !

Ignoring History ?

History teaches us that people don't like sudden / abrupt / big changes , whether these affect them socially , politically /  economically or , even emotionally

Changes that happen slowly / gradually / minimally , over a period of time , are much more palatable / acceptable and get assimilated into the psyche without causing a trauma

But then , if such gradual changes fail to take place - or get caused over a long period of time , by people responsible - then it becomes imperative to introduce sudden / big changes even at the risk of inviting anger of the people affected

Here is just one example of what happened / is happening , and what could have been done over a long period , to avoid anger / demonstrations / militancy / strife / human misery :

#   Could we have ensured timely completion of construction of
dams / irrigation canals / interlinking of rivers etc to ensure that areas needing water got it and drought / flooding got avoided ?

If so , could we have avoided delivering water in trains and tankers ?

Could we have dug thousands of small ponds / reservoirs in each and every village to retain water and thereby raise ground water level ?

Just ask what our MPs and MLAs could have done over the past 65 years , to avoid / eliminate following problems :

*   Ever growing demand for " Quota / Reservation "

*   NPAs threatening bankruptcy of banks

*   Impending closure of PSUs , making losses for 40 years

*   Cheap Chinese imports flooding our markets / causing job-
     losses

*   Effluents from chemical plants / tanneries and sewage ,
turning all of our rivers into gutters

*   Pollution from fossil fuel power stations / construction / diesel
     vehicles , making our air , un-breathable

*   Reckless iron ore mining turning our forests into waste-land

*   Wrong taxation policies encouraging people to evade taxes
     and generate BLACK MONEY

*   License / Permit Raj , leading to bribes and corruption

*   Layers upon layers of government employees ( 32 lakh ),
resulting in denial of each and every civil service

*   Outdated - and complicated - judicial processes , coupled with
insufficient number of judges,  ensuring non-delivery of
justice ( with 30 million pending cases - which will take 300
     years to clear ! )

*   60 million people dying every year thru cigarette smoking

I can go on and on !

It is not too late to draw up a 10 year  ACTION PLAN for solving each of the above-mentioned problem and commit to making just 10 % improvement per year

Better late than never  !
