OK , TATA !

For decades now , we have seen this salutation painted behind many trucks plying on Indian roads

Before long , expect those roadside painters to start painting , on backs of Electric Vehicles :

ONE  TATA  !

Following  news report will explain :

Summary of how TATA Group plans  to meet every need of EV ( Electric Vehicle ) buyers :

*   Tata Motors    >   will offer the vehicle ( electric , of course )

*   Tata  Power    >    will set up battery charging stations

*   Tata Realty     >    will help build physical infrastructure , depots, or dedicated
                                electric vehicle stations

*   Tata  Finance  >   will offer financing or leasing solutions

*   TCS                 >   will help develop an app or software platform  [  Internet of

[  Both at the customer end and at the Company end / Offer
                                    backend support ]

Tata Motors MD , Guenter Butschek told ET :

“ The concept of  ONE  TATA  emerged when the company tried to send its ELECTRIC BUS idea for State Transport undertakings .

The State Utilities asked for a COMPLETE SOLUTION and were willing to pay for use of services

When we looked around , we said, this group can be of great value and can jointly leverage a new opportunity in the market and this is a multi-billion market in the mid to long term if we just join forces .

And , we started to build according to the tender requirements as a consortium

The same can be applied in PVs ( Passenger Vehicles ) as well

( We ) can offer ‘ complete peace of mind ‘ solution, including :

#   Apps for employees to track their pick up or drop time , travel time

That too in a protective environment which is predictable , doing away with issues on
 RANGE or CHARGE challenges

Although , in the past few months , I have sent several emails to EESL , trying to persuade it to modify its existing order on TATA / M&M ( 10,000 Electric Cars ) to a LEASING CONTRACT , I think ONE TATA would convince him of the feasibility / practicality / frugality of my suggestion

Electric  Vehicles  : How to Kick Start

LiveMint  ( 29 June ) carries following news :

Panel backs sops for firms building EV charging points

Highlights of recommendations made by the Committee  :

[ A ]

Expenses incurred by manufacturing companies in setting up charging stations for electric vehicles (EV) across the country should be considered an activity within the ambit of corporate social responsibility (CSR)

[ B  ]

The committee’s report also said that higher depreciation on electric vehicles is required [  50%, against the current 15%  , for a period of 5 years ]

[ C  ]

Weighted deductions for investments in the electric mobility space.

[  D  ]

Discounted rate of lending for acquisition of electric vehicles,

EESL :  a  wake  up  time  ?

Following report appeared yesterday :

WHY  ?

Electric cars of Tata Motors and Mahindra—the Tata Tigor electric and Mahindra e-Verito, respectively—procured by EESL for government officials failed to run even 80-82km ona single charge withincity limits ( tender specifications )

CONTEXT  :

*  Against first tender of EESL for 10,000 electric cars , only 150 have been delivered so
far . No clue re delivery of the rest  which were due for delivery by Oct 2017  !
*   Even in Delhi , there are hardly any Battery Charging Stations
*   Second tender ( for 10,000 cars ) is held up for past 3 months since a few Ministries
are still fighting with each other re specifications for future Battery Charging Stations
*   Within 4 years , EESL wants to replace the entire fleet of government departments (
approx. 5 lakh petrol / diesel cars ) , with electric cars ( ie ; 10,000 e cars to be
delivered every month for the next 50 months ! At a cost of Rs 50,000 CRORE  ! )
*   EESL is charging ( to those govt departments ) , a lease rent of approx. Rs 19.2 / km
*  But the way the govt departments are protesting ( against the poor performance of
already delivered cars ), I seriously doubt whether EESL can manage to perform
against commitment it has made to those departments !
If a mere 150 cars can turn out to be a “ headache “ , imagine what managing of 5
lakh cars can do to EESL !
It will surely turn into a “ nightmare “ !  Even an obituary for EESL  ! A scam in
    making ?
*   It is still not too late for EESL to read all of my previous emails ( listed below ) and
    re-write the balance contract / order into a “ Lease Agreement “ with TATA / M&M
Not only will EESL save unproductive investment of thousands of crores of rupees , it
will get a far better / superior “ SERVICE “ from TATA / M&M , since they will get paid
only when their cars run and only for the km they run !
Not only their “ Lease Rent “ could be as low as Rs 6 / km , they would ensure :
    #   Plenty of their own battery charging stations , in each and every city
    #   Very reliable drivers-cum-technicians ( English - speaking graduates )
    #   One “ standby / spare “ car for every 5 cars leased to EESL

Shri Ravi Shankar Prasadji  ,

Congratulations for your bold vision and your meticulous , time-bound implementation , to turn India into a DIGITIZED INDIA

I believe The Telecom Commission will be meeting on 29 June to approve the draft of this policy

While approving the policy , I urge you to keep in mind the suggestions that I made in my email dated 04 Oct 2016

Extract from my E Mail :

In my yesterday's blog

* “ Slow and Steady wins the Race / 03 Oct 2016 “ ,

and in earlier blog,

* “ If Mohamed cannot Go to Mountain / 26 July 2015 “ ,

I had suggested allowing 1.3 million schools of India to lease out their premises at night ( 6 pm to 6 am ) , for private parties to set up Call Centers ( BPOs )

Also enabling them with 100 mbps  Internet broadband connections ( of course , FREE )

Idea was to reduce investment in setting up of BPOs by " round-the-clock " utilization of , otherwise idle assets

That logic could be extended to many similar under-utilized public assets such as :

#   2,25,000  Gram Panchayat offices ( all getting internet connection )

#   1,45,000  Post Offices ( also getting internet connection under Payment Bank
     scheme )

#   Lakhs of Government offices ( Central / State / Municipal / PSUs etc )

#   Lakhs of branches of Public Sector Banks
