Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Dead on Arrival ?

A “ Vehicle  Scrappage  Policy  “ is under works for past 4 years

Following is today’s news :

Extract :

Automobile companies are ready to offer up to 1% of vehicle prices as discount or incentive if customers scrap old vehicles and buy new ones

The govt is yet to take a final call on whether it would also give any incentive to encourage phasing out of old vehicles

Sources said, the government had sought a commitment from the automobile companies about their incentives to such buyers after it revived intense consultations on the proposed policy, which is likely to boost the sale of new vehicles

The proposal is being discussed among heavy industries , transport, and steel ministries.

A final view on this proposal , which is being considered for more than 4 years, is likely to be out soon

The government had originally considered both the options – regulatory and voluntary – regime to roll out the scheme

But a group of secretaries had favored a voluntary scrapping policy

Sources said now it’s completely up to the government to take a call on whether it would be voluntary or mandatory

=======================================================

Dear Government  Secretaries ,

For over 4 year, you have been “analyzing “ the following pros and cons of the proposed policy ,

Ø   Voluntary      Vs    Mandatory

Ø   Discounts      Vs    Incentives

Ø   New              Vs    Old

Ø   Petrol-Diesel  Vs    Electric Vehicles

Ø   Passenger      Vs    Freight

Ø   Public            Vs    Private

Ø   Owned           Vs    Leased / Taxies…… etc

Waiting for another few weeks will not make much of a difference time-wise but could make a lot of difference “ Why didn’t we think about this implication earlier ? “ -  wise
