Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Changing Track on Pollution: My Long-Standing Vision for a Cleaner Future

Changing Track on Pollution: My Long-Standing Vision for a Cleaner Future

The global discourse around pollution and climate change has intensified significantly, and rightly so. I've been reflecting on the recent insights from the United Nations regarding the pivotal role of energy in our climate challenge, alongside the burgeoning efforts to track environmental degradation from space. These discussions resonate deeply with thoughts I've shared years ago, and it's striking how relevant those earlier insights still are today.

The UN's article, "Generating power | United Nations" [https://www.un.org/en/climatechange/climate-solutions/cities-pollution], paints a stark picture: fossil fuels are at the core of our climate woes, yet cleaner, renewable sources are gaining ground, becoming increasingly affordable. Cities, while consuming 78% of the world's energy and producing over 60% of greenhouse gas emissions, are also hubs for innovative solutions. This duality — cities as both problem and solution — is something I pondered long ago. In my blog, "The Sunshine Sector ?" [http://myblogepage.blogspot.com/2018/05/solarindia-renewableenergy-mnre.html], I highlighted India's ambitious renewable energy targets and the potential for massive job creation in the sector. Back then, in 2018, I emphasized the crucial role of government policy, technological innovation, and public awareness in driving this transition forward.

The ongoing advancements, including satellite-based monitoring of pollution, underscore the urgency and the expanded toolkit we now possess. My long-standing vision for a cleaner future has always been rooted in recognizing both the challenges and the immense potential for human ingenuity and collaboration. It's heartening to see these ideas gain mainstream traction and move from vision to actionable strategies, paving the way for a truly sustainable planet.
