Impossible till Yesterday ?

 


 

 

Some 3 years back, I sent following suggestion to our Policy Makers :

Transport : an Integrated Logistic Plan ? ………………[ 20 Nov 2018 ]

 

Its main objectives are :


#   Drastic reduction in pollution caused by ICE vehicles on our roads (

     some 240 million plus )

#   Superior Traffic Management

#   Automatic ( no human intervention ) 24x7 collection of TRANS-TAX

     using vehicle-based RFID sensors and Satellite NaVIC GPS-based

     vehicle tracking

     

 

Since then, I must have sent dozens of follow-up e-mails


It is possible that the concerned Policy Makers did not think my suggestion was “ technically feasible


May be they thought it would be a hugely expensive project involving big risk


Cannot blame them for being conservative when it comes to spending public tax money


But with each passing day, its “ technical feasibility “ is improving, with more and more start-ups coming out with platforms for satellite-based tracking “ of objects on the surface of the earth

GalaxEye : Computing at Space’s Edge  /  Business Line  /  02 Aug 2021


Extract :

Ø  GalaxEye, a tech start-up incubated at IIT-Madras, intends to launch 14 earth observation satellites to give an image of, say, an agricultural field. The first of these satellites, which will orbit the earth at an altitude of 500 km, is expected to go up in 2023.

 

Ø  Second, GalaxEye will use ‘edge computing’ to process the information gathered by the sensors. Edge computing is an emerging field where the computing is done wherever the data is — as opposed to computing at a centralised server or a cloud. This means that images collected by the satellites are processed on-board and only the data relevant to the user — GalaxEye’s customer — is beamed down to the earth. This saves storage and bandwidth.

 

 

Ø  GalaxEye’s technicians will uplink instructions — algorithms — to the onboard computers, depending on the needs of the customer. For example, there could be one set of algorithms for processing data for an agricultural field and another for a construction site, says Suyash Singh, co-founder of GalaxEye. Ø  To launch the satellite, GalaxEye is in talks with another IIT-Madras start-up, Agnikul Cosmos, ( curious@agnikul.in ) which is building rockets for satellite launch services. Incidentally, both Agnikul and GalaxEye are mentored by the entrepreneurs’ common teacher, Satya Chakravarthy, Professor of Aerospace Engineering, IIT-Madras. (src@ae.iitm.ac.in )

     #    processes for sensing data from vehicle-based sensors

     #    computational capability

     #    databases of 240 million vehicles

     #    messaging - alerting …etc

-       in respect of my TRANS-TAX suggestion


You have already implemented this partially in RFID based automatic toll collection from vehicles plying on highways, which has enabled TOLL TAX collection of ,

#  0n 25 Feb 2021……............................ Rs 104 Crore ( in one day )

#  Expected collection for current year ….. Rs 34,000 crore

#  Expected to reach in 3 to 4 years……….. Rs 134,000 crore ( Rs  1.34

                                                                Lakh*Crore  per year )

Reliance Retail : a Guess comes Good

 


 

How will the game plan of Reliance Retail unfold over the years ?


3 years ago, I made a few guesses re following aspects of that game plan :


#     Sales

#    Supply

#    Inventory

#    Delivery

#    Finance

#    Marketing


In relation to matters of  SUPPLY  and  INVENTORY , in my blog   MA = DA x 4,000,000 ?  (  17 July 2018 ), I made following guess :

SUPPLY  :



We will deliver to your store , all merchandize on " Consignment " basis



This means , you do NOT need to pay us for what we deliver to you store !



Till sold , all goods in your store will be our " stock "



This way , you do NOT need any " Working Capital " as far as your stocks are concerned 



We will also tie-up with the manufacturers



You don't need to have any interaction / dealing with the manufacturers

INVENTORY  :



On a continuous basis , our web server will keep a track of each and every item of merchandize sold from your stores



Our Server will calculate , your " Stock Movement " 



Based on this data , our Server will compute / set for each item :



#   Minimum Stock Level



#   Alarm Stock Level



#   Stock Re-Order Level



#   Re-Order Quantity ( Minimum Batch Size ) 



Based on this logic , our Server will instruct the relevant " Merchandize Manufacturers " ( or their dealers / stockists ) , to deliver the stipulated " Re-Order Quantities " to your stores



A " Re-Order Instruction intimation " , will get delivered to your computer



Upon arrival , you will need to update the data



From time to time , our Software will also figure out your current stocks of " Extremely Slow Moving " and " Obsolete / Expired " items , and arrange for " Return Delivery " , which you will need to enter in your database

 

 

3 years down the line, how accurate was that GUESS ?  Here is the GOOD news :


Rel Retail Brands may soon come to kiranas   /  Eco Times /  27 July 2021


Extract :


Ø  The country’s largest retailer plans to start supplying products such as soaps, sanitizers, and home disinfectants under Puric InstaSafe brand to other retailers and and kiranas nationwide in the coming months


Ø  With its JioMart ecommerce platform looking to supply everything from FMCG products to general merchandise to kiranas DIRECTLY, Reliance Retail with around 13,000 brick-and-mortar stores, is planning to push its own brands of FMCG, fashion and lifestyle, and electronics to the stores OUTSIDE of Reliance stable as part of of a larger CONSUMER PLAY


Ø  So far, kiranas purchased Reliance Retail’s private brands from its cash-and-carry stores but the company had seldom PRO-ACTIVELY marketed them to the GENERAL TRADE


Ø  Now there is a marketing team to sell PRIVATE BRANDS to the general trade


Ø  Reliance has also created a CONSUMER BRAND GROUP that is tasked with developing FMCG products to be sold in the GENERAL MARKET and not just in Reliance Retail’s own outlets and e-commerce channels
