Promises vs Practices

During recent election campaign in Bihar, Tejaswi Yadav promised 10 lakh jobs ( if voted to power )

BJP leaders went one better and promised 19 lakh jobs

Shri Nawab Malik ( Labour and Skills Development Minister – Maharashtra ) believes in “ practicing “

Context :

1.48 lakh people have found jobs during lockdown through govt portal

Extract :

The website, run by the Labour Department, connects companies and young men and women, arranging meetings, interviews and negotiations online

It also held EMPLOYMENT FAIRS during lockdown

Since January this year, 1.48 lakh people have been hired through the site. In October alone 35,000 people got jobs

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

{  Read this in context of following FAQ on the govt website :

   (16) When one can receive the Interview Call Letter after registration?

One has to apply as per the Educational Qualification, Experience, Age, etc. registered on the web portal.

Sending the Interview Call Letter / Written Exam Admit Card and the further recruitment process shall be done

   by the Employer. }

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Highlighting various efforts by the department to reach out to jobseekers, Malik said that a series of JOB FAIRS were held recently..

“ The FAIRS were conducted ONLINE with prior information provided to the public, ONLINE INTERVIEWS were conducted to connect  Jobseekers and various companies “, Malik said

The website has schedule for upcoming FAIRS . Minister urged the companies to register on the site

===================================================

On searching through The website , I found explicit mention of 4 upcoming ONLINE JOB FAIRS , during this month, showing following number of VACANCIES :

Ø  Kolhapur………………. 40

Ø  Raigadh-Alibag……..NIL

Ø  Sindhudurg……………NIL

Ø  Nashik…………………. 250 ( - all from DATAMATICS )

The website , also lists following :

Ø  Total Job Fairs…………………………. 804

Ø  Active Job Fairs……………………………. 8

Ø  Placements……………………….5,96,085

Ø  Total Jobseekers……………..16,41,181

Ø  Total Employers……………..     16,067

Ø  Total Vacancies……………… 24,56,205

Congratulations , Shri Nawab Malik [contact@nawabmalik.com ],

 You have “ walked – the – talk “ once again .

For your FIRST initiative to solve the Unemployment problem, I sent to you, following e-mail :

Congratulations, Shri Ajit Pawar / Shri Nawab Malik………………..[ 06 Mar 2020 ]

Considering that there are hundreds of Job Portals in India , claiming to have millions of registered jobseekers and thousands of employers who have posted lakhs of vacancies , one would wonder :

“ Can job portals go beyond enabling ,

Ø  Employers to post VACANCIES

Ø  Jobseeker to search suitable jobs and Apply Online  ?

Can job portals be transformed to become VIRTUAL JOB FAIRS  where,

Ø  Thousands of Recruiters can conduct Online Interviews ( Skype- Zoom ) of an equal number of Jobseekers  SIMULTANEOUSLY , occupying thousands of VIRTUAL INTERVIEW CABINS, automatically / dynamically created on the Job Portal  ? ( no limit on number of virtual interview cabins )

Ø  Employers send out Interview Call Invites ( giving Date-Time Schedules to each candidate )

Ø  Candidates accept / reject “ Interview Invites “

Ø  Recruiters fill-in Interview Assessment Forms and issue Appointment Letters , clearly stating whether the job calls for physical presence of the selected candidate at the employers physical office premises , OR that the candidate will need to “ work from home “ or “ work from anywhere

Ø  Candidates return “ appointment acceptance letters “

In brief, other than “ joining “, can the entire RECRUITMENT PROCESS ( end – to – end ), be made ONLINE ?

Govt eases guidelines to make 'work from home' permanent    /   MINT  -  05 Nov

Extract :

Ø     The government on Thursday announced simplified guidelines for Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) and IT Enabled Services (ITES) players to reduce the compliance burden for the industry and facilitate ' Work from Home ' and ' Work from Anywhere '.

Ø     The new rules for 'Other Service Providers' (OSPs) would create a friendly-regime for 'Work from Home' and 'Work from Anywhere' while removing several reporting and other obligations for such companies.

Ø     OSPs are entities providing applications services, IT enabled services or any kind of outsourcing services using telecom resources. The term refers to BPOs, KPOs (Knowledge Process Outsourcing), ITES, call centres, amongst others.

Ø     "India's IT sector is our pride. The prowess of this sector is recognized globally. We are committed to doing everything possible to ensure a conducive environment for growth and innovation in India. Today's decisions will especially encourage young talent in the sector !,"  Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.

Ø     " The reform will certainly unleash the potential of our talented youth by making India as a preferred destination for Information and Knowledge Outsourcing Industry and would further the vision of 'AtmaNirbhar Bharat'," the release added.

Ø     Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad tweeted,

“ Today @narendramodi Govt has taken a major reform initiative to

liberalize the regulatory regime for   “Other Service Provider". This will

boost the IT/ ITeS/ BPO industry and create a friendly regime for

       Work from Home in India."

"These will provide several benefits...India is a global outsourcing hub and the new guidelines will promote outsourcing at scale, bringing in more work to India. With the relaxations in WFH regulations, companies will be able to tap into talent from small towns and remote parts of the country," Nasscom Senior Director and Public Policy Head Ashish Aggarwal said [ ashish@nasscom.in /  ashish@ftri.in / ashish.a@micropensions.com ]

Nasscom President Debjani Ghosh tweeted that the "game changing reform" signals start of a new chapter for Indian IT and for India as a leading IT hub for the world. [ debjani@nasscom.in ]

WNS Group CEO Keshav Murugesh tweeted that this "brilliant step" will catapult Indian IT and BPM to the next level of growth, global impact, job creation and development of small towns and cities in tier III and IV locations. [ email@wns.com  /  keshav@syntelinc.com  /  keshav@synovus.com  ]

Luck does not happen !

It has to be “ caused “ , following the dictum :

“ Luck is caused when Preparedness meets Opportunity

Ever since Elon Musk twitted a few weeks back that TESLA will arrive in India in 2021, a number of State Chief Ministers have started chasing Elon to set up his next Gigafactory in their State

But the question is :

“ How much have they prepared to meet this opportunity ? “

OPPORTUNITY

Here are some announcements that Elon made / hinted, on the Battery Day ( 22 Sept 200 ) :

Ø  Cars that connect to the Grid ( mobile Power Storage Devices ? )

Ø  EV Battery cathodes without Cobalt ( 2:1 nickel manganese ratio )

Ø  Delivery of Plaid Powertrain by 2021

Ø  Working on a fully autonomous $ 25,000 car using NextGen battery ( about 3 years from now )

Ø  Building a new Cathode plant

Ø  Tab-less “ battery cells that will improve range ( this will reduce the $/kWh pack cost by 14%.)

Ø  Mass production of new battery cells by 2022

Ø  New improvements to Autopilot, its driver-assistance software ( much safer than a human driver )

Ø  Battery having five times more energy

Ø  16% range increase,

Ø  Six times the power output

>   A massive new casting machine to
integrate the battery's components within the car, much like a planes

fuel tanks are integrated into the wings instead of separate parts

Among other things, Elon said :

" The three parts of a sustainable-energy future are ,

Ø  Sustainable Energy generation

Ø  Storage, and

Ø  Vehicles

So we intend to play a significant role in all three."

But to get there, the world needs to produce 10 terawatt-hours’ worth energy per year.

That is 100 times more than Tesla’s current production level “

Production capacity  Planned :

Ø  2020…………..  35     GWh

Ø  2022………….  100    GWh

Ø  2030…………… 3000  GWh

Battery Costs Envisaged :

Ø  2020…………  $   156 / KWh

Ø  2021…………  $   100 / KWh

Ø  2023…………  $    63 / KWh

On the chemistry front, Tesla said, it acquires a 10,000 acre mining site to produce even more of battery components in-house

“ There is really enough Lithium in Nevada alone to electrify the entire  US fleet “

Tesla Battery Day: news and updates from Elon Musk’s announcement

Extract :

Karnataka has held discussions with electric vehicles major Tesla to encourage it into setting up a base in the state. However, the Maharashtra government has also been actively reaching out to the Elon Musk-led company to "invite" them to the state, as per a recent tweet by Shiv Sena leader Aaditya Thackeray

Copy of this blog sent to the following with a request to examine whether “ Our Preparedness “ ( ala : our EV Policy / FAME II ) need a superfast and thorough overhaul , to ensure that Elon chooses to set up his next Gigafactory in India – and not in Indonesia / Singapore / Vietnam :

Tomorrow, PM will hold virtual conference with Global Investors, to persuade them to invest in Infrastructure projects, biggest being 5 Li-ion factories ( each costing Rs 36,000 cr ) .
Will he succeed in convincing Elon Musk , who started Model 3 EV production at his China factory within ONE YEAR of breaking ground ?

Or, will he go to Singapore, which has World Bank rank # 2 in Ease of Doing Business ?
Here is a hint :

40 years ago, Pherwani ( VP / L&T ) , met officers of Singapore Development Authority, for a JV for manufacture of Bottle Closures in Singapore

After the presentation , a SDA officer took Pherwani to look up suitable sites for setting up the proposed factory

In the evening , when Pherwani returned to his hotel , receptionist handed him a letter from SDA ,

> confirming SDA willingness to form a JV with L&T

> allotting the factory plot selected by Pherwani

> enclosing a cheque towards SDA's share to the equity capital of proposed JV
