FOR JOBLESS: WHEN EVERYTHING ELSE FAILS.

If you are 27 year old, got your resume re-written by many resume-writing experts, applied unsuccessfully against 48 job vacancies and still jobless after 2 years, you may want to consider adding, right on top of your resume ( in bold letters ):

“ I am a born workaholic. My work ethics motivate me to work for 12 hours per day for 7 days a week – without overtime payment. I can beat any Chinese worker in productivity “

There is a high probability that you get an interview call.

You have nothing to lose but everything to gain !

CREATING JOBS ALL OVER THE WORLD ?

In Nov.2010, President Obama visited India with the declared purpose of signing trade deals worth $ 10 billion.

That enabled him to claim creation of 50,000 jobs for the jobless Americans – and to reclaim some of his lost popularity.

With joblessness threatening governments around the world, other politicians lost no time in picking up the hint.

Virtually lining up to sign their own trade deals were

  • Cameron of UK

  • Sarkozy of France

  • Jiabao of China

  • Medvedev of Russia
In quick succession, they came and signed trade deals ( aka “ selling goods to India “ ) worth $ 100 billions.

In a short period of 6 weeks, India helped create 500,000 jobs around the world !

In the meantime, 42 million young Indians registered with the State Employment Exchanges of India are waiting for the world to “ buy “ a few things from India so that some of them can get job-offers.

They don’t care whether India gets a permanent membership of UN Security Council or not !

JOBSEEKERS MUST BE SPRINTERS?

Abhi, Kartavya

Mumbai Municipal Corporation (India) wanted to fill up 4000 posts of street sweepers. So, it advertised in local newspapers, saying applicants should have passed 8th Standard (10th being school graduation).

That led to a flood of 300,000 applications.

How can anyone go thru 300,000 resumes to shortlist 4,000 candidates ?

No problem.

Additional “Eligibility Criteria “ required that candidates must be

·      165 cm tall

·      capable of running 4 Km in 15 Min ( 16 Km / hour )

Now, if a candidate can sweep 128 Km of roads in an 8 hour shift ( @ 16 Km / hour ), then the Municipal Corporation should need only 32 sweepers to sweep 4000 Km of Mumbai roads !

Why invest in sweeping machines if you can employ 4000?

JOB SEARCH INNOVATION ?

Tristam Rossin of London posted a “ sell “ ad on eBay. He offered to sell his graphic design skills for 40 hours / week for one year.

He even got the highest bid for Pound 3100.

But then eBay removed his listing, saying “ it is a breach of our policies “.

Thank God, there are no laws prohibiting a jobless guy from innovating his job search strategy !

JOB SEARCH STRATEGY ?

For many jobseekers, their foremost job search strategy is to surf the job portals – daily, and often for hours-on-end.

But this is not something every jobseeker can do or even need to do. All over the world, there are millions of jobseekers whose only access to internet is from a cybercafé – and once a week !

Now a day, nearly all job portals send job alert emails on a daily / weekly basis.

Then there are some portals which deliver SMS job alerts on mobile and even enable a jobseeker to “ Apply “ against any alert , directly from mobile – eliminating the need to surf / log-in.

There is hardly a jobseeker who does not have a mobile !

If this trend accelerates, online job searching may not remain the foremost job search strategy.

Outsourcing Health-Care ?

You may want to call it  “ Medical  Tourism “.

Here are some interesting findings from a report by Frost & Sullivan :

Ø  No. of Medical Tourists  ( 2009 )…………………………. 3  millions
Ø  Value of Medical Tourism ( 2010 ) ……………………$ 78.5 billion
Ø  Value of Medical Tourism ( 2012 ) ……………………$ 100  billion
Ø  Annual Growth Rate  ………………………………………….20 % - 30 %
Ø  Where do sick people go for health-care ?

-      Germany
-      Rest of Europe
-      Thailand
-      India
-      Malaysia

Ø  What are the main reasons for outsourcing health-care ?

-      To avail latest medical procedures ………………40 % tourist
-      To acquire better health ………………………………32 %
-      For immediate medical treatment ………………15 %
-      For cheaper health care (as much as 80 %)   9 %

Ø  Amount spent on medical tourism by UAE citizens …$ 2 billion

No wonder the city of Surat in India is called the “ Surrogate Motherhood Capital of the World “, offering surrogacy for as little as $ 4000 / - and a very liberal legal frame-work. Women of Surat are not taking away anybody’s jobs.

No Mobiles for unemployed Girls ?

County administration ( Panchayat ) of Lakh village ( UP / India ) has prohibited girls from using cell phones.

Earlier it had issued directives to girls, not to,

wear tight clothes

dance on stage at parties or even at home

Panchayat believes that mobile phones were to blame for the rise in elopement and same-caste marriages.

But Panchayat will change its mind if it knew that  girls  too can receive

Even in a village, having a job vastly improves the marriage-prospects of a girl . Boys simply love a working girl !

An Unusual Search Term ?

No doubt, “ Interactive  Interview  Tool “ [ with inverted commas ], is an unusual search term.

If you were to type this in search engines, you will get very few search results (  2100 in Google / 149 in Yahoo / only 31 in Bing ).

What matters however is :

If you happen to be a Recruiter and if you discover a freely downloadable “ Interviewer “ tool, you would be glad to have used an unusual search term !
