“Carbon Calculator is a service that we provide to banks.

The personalised carbon footprint tracker can tell consumers the cumulative effect of carbon footprint across a variety of spending categories in a month. We have launched it in many countries and, now, we are in talks with banks in India to roll it out here,” Ken Moore, Chief Innovation Officer, Mastercard, told businessline.

 

Banking partners can embed the tracking tool in their website or mobile apps. 

“In Carbon Calculator, you can see the carbon effect of your purchases; the Priceless Planet Coalition allows you to redeem your reward points towards tree planting projects.”

“In some countries, people produce more energy than they consume and contribute the surplus back to the grid to get solar credits from the government.

That can be  another form of money.

In future, it is highly possible that you will come up to a merchant point of sale and pay with solar credit or CBDC or rupee or mix it all together,” Moore added.

"VI partners with EESL for advanced metering infrastructure project for DISCOMS

 in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. 16.7 lakhs Vi IoT enabled smart meters installed

 at present in the two states. In total, 50 lakhs Vi IoT-enabled smart meters to be

 installed under the agreement," it said.

According to the statement, the Internet of Things (IoT)-enabled smart

 meters have resulted in ,

#  substantial improvement in monthly meter readings.

#  improving billing and collection efficiency and has led to

#  huge upside revenue for the DISCOMS thereby improving their financial

    standing.

EESL smart meters are transforming India's energy landscape by

#  increasing billing and collection efficiency;

#  reducing operation and maintenance costs;

#  enhancing the quality of services and

#  providing consumers with demand side management (DSM) options

The smart meters are being installed on Vi loT technology, which delivers secure

and quality communication services. It has led to huge revenue upside and

improved financial standing for the DISCOMs in these regions.

An  IoT enabled Smart Meter is essentially , a special purpose internet connected

TABLET

Hence it should be possible to integrate with that tablet, the CARBON

CALCULATOR tracking tool , which will :

#  Calculate the electricity consumed by each and every APPLIANCE / DEVICE in a

    home

#  Calculate CARBON CREDIT ( for use of Solar Power )  or DEBIT
