Where did you read about What3Word’d BIG PLAN for India ?

In following report in today’s Economic Times { Print Edition } :

UK’s What3Words Chalks out a Plan for India Mkt

UK-based location services provider what3words, which assists in sharing an address with anyone using just three words instead of complex coordinates, wants to become a household name in India, said its cofounder and chief executive Chris Sheldrick.

The free-to-use application has divided the entire globe into  57 trillion,  3x3 metre squares, each with a unique three-word name. Instead of sharing complex GPS coordinates, users can share the three words associated with any location.

“We aspire to become a standard in India like we have done in the UK. In the UK what3words is basically a household name and that is absolutely our goal in India “, Sheldrick told ET via videoconferencing from London

The company said, it has seen a 183 % increase in users in India over the last year, without disclosing the actual size of its user base

“ India presents a very very large opportunity for us “ , Sheldrick said

“ A lot of the Companies that we deal with internationally also perceive India to be really important market for them. So as part of our global business development strategy , India is clearly a huge market “

Dear Chloe,

Many thanks for your prompt response

Here is a question :

As far as I can make out , your system is  two-dimensional ( surface area based )

How can it be improvised to track / locate properties located 1000 ft above the ground level , in a multi-storied building ? ( 3 dimensions )

In each floor of a residential or commercial building , there are apartments / offices , belonging to different owners

Local governments ( eg; Municipal Corporations of towns / cities ) , do assign / allot an ID ( alpha-numeric digit number  ) to such properties to keep track and collect property taxes . This results in a large number of local databases , each differently designed / accessed . Quite often, these are paper-based !

But there is no CENTRAL / COMMON  DATABASE of all the properties ( not merely land parcels ) in a country, which can be accessed by different government agencies from any city

At least in India , this ( lack of a CENTRAL / COMMON DATABASE of apartments – offices etc ) has become a BIG issue since billions of dollars’ worth of properties are purchased with BLACK MONEY , in the names of non-existent persons !

Indian Government is looking for a solution where each and every property is given a UNIQUE ID and also linked with Unique “ Aadhar Numbers “ already issued to over 1200 MILLION persons over the past 4 years

Do you think your system could provide a fool-proof solution ?

In this connection , you might want to look up :

 #Aadhar   #Property   #Benami    [  21  Nov  2017  ]

#BenamiProperty  #Bitcoin  #BlackMoney [ 22  Nov  2017 ]

 Nami or Benami ?  Why Differentiate ?  [  30  Nov  2017  ]

Dear Hemen,

Most postal or address systems only work in 2D (e.g. ZIP codes or postal codes in the UK). These always need additional information to specify height: e.g. Flat 6, 5th floor, 12 Lonsdale Road. With a 3 word address, we recommend a similar approach, e.g. Flat 6, 5th floor, index.home.raft In terms of indoor addressing, what3words covers all locations in 2D, but the supporting technology (indoor positioning, indoor mapping, indoor navigation) is not yet widespread enough for there to be any great benefit of specifying a point with height included. However, if and when height becomes helpful to specify, we have various options for including this information with the 3 word address.

Thank you for the information on
India's search for an addressing solution - I'll pass it on to our sales team.

All best wishes,

Chloe

Dear Hugo,

Following news appeared a few days back

Problem ( in nut shell ) :

In India , dozens of FAKE companies , use identical / same , POSTAL ADDRESS as their “ Registered Office “

This is one CLUE to suspect that these are FAKE companies

But can a 3M x 3M square be given a SINGLE three word location using What3Words ?

Or is it so that , a dozen persons , occupying that same square ( of office space ) can each give it , a different 3 word combination ?

 With regards,

 hemen

Hi Hemen,

Thanks for this information and pointing out this important problem!

We have given every 3x3m in the world a unique 3 word address, what people choose to do with these addresses is up to them, so it is possible that more than one person can inhabit or use a 3 word address, they are not registered to individuals or organisations.

Does this help?

Best wishes,
Hugo

Dear Support Team,

Some 3 years ago, in my following mail, I asked:

“ How can What3Words be used for giving location-addresses to flats / apartments in multistoried buildings ? “

In this context , following news report offers an opportunity for your company to offer a solution to the Indian Census Authorities , which will soon launch a Mobile App to carry out “ house-listing “ of 290 million homes/households in India :

Self-enumeration by public in next Census not limited to 2nd phase alone

“ Self-enumeration for the house-listing phase will allow residents to enter details like housing conditions, housing amenities, and assets possessed online through the Census App or Central monitoring and Management System (  CMMS ) portal “

Naya,

A Startup in India just launched a mobile app with functionalities which are very similar to your own What3Words

Here is that link > https://pataa.com

You might want to prepare a “ Compare and Contrast “ tabulation of the salient features of the two offerings

I would love to look at some such comparison
