Tim Berners-Lee Speaks

And the World listens

This is what Tim is saying :

[  Extracts from : https://www.inrupt.com/blog/one-small-step-for-the-web  /  28  Sept  2018   ]

But for all the good we’ve achieved, the web has evolved into an engine of inequity and division, swayed by powerful forces who use it for their own agendas.

Solid changes the current model where users have to hand over personal data to digital giants in exchange for perceived value.

As we’ve all discovered, this hasn’t been in our best interests.

Solid is how we evolve the web in order to restore balance - by giving every one of us complete control over data, personal or not, in a revolutionary way.

Solid is a platform, built using the existing web.

It gives every user a choice about where data is stored, which specific people and groups can access select elements, and which apps you use.

Solid is guided by the principle of “personal empowerment through data” which we believe is fundamental to the success of the next era of the web.

We believe data should empower each of us

With Solid, you will have far more personal agency over data - you decide which apps can access it.

People want to have a web they can trust. People want apps that help them do what they want and need to do - without spying on them. Apps that don’t have an ulterior motive of  distracting them with propositions to buy this or that.

The Web Foundation advocates for data rights as part of its mission to advance a free and open web that benefits humanity.

I hope our Policy Makers will sit up and listen to what Tim has to say , even if they could not find time to read my following emails , where I had suggested creation of ,

·                Privacy for Sale  ……………………………………………[            26  Aug  2017  ]

·         Data Protection without Data Privacy ?  ……….[  08  Jan  2018  ]

·         Data Privacy Law : a Pandora’s Box ?  ………….[  15  July  2018 ]

·         A Matter of Motive  …………………………………………[  04  Aug  2018 ]

As per my limited understanding of Inrupt , what Tim is suggesting is a creation of,

-      a much bigger , world-wide “ Personal Data Repository

Dear Shri Ravi Shankar Prasadji,

I urge you to invite Tim ( timbl@w3.org  ) for a personal discussion before finalizing the draft of,

Data Protection Bill

Aadhar Data Delete ? Simple Solution #AadharVerdict

Aadhar verdict might have settled some issues but , quite likely , it has also raised some new ones

Following is one example :

“ Corporate entities like banks and telecom service providers cannot ask for customers’ Aadhar ID for e-KYC “

OK , so new customers will need to furnish some other proof for residential address ( who decides , which ? – and using Digital Locker  ? )

But what about one billion current customers ?

They have already given their Aadhar ID.

Are the service providers required to “ delete “ these and send a SMS / email to those customers as follows ? [ there is no clarity re this in the judgment ]

“ Dear Customer ,

You have already given to us , your Aadhar ID , which we may be now required to delete and replace it with some other ID ( - we are writing to the Hon supreme court for a clarification )

We could accept your driving license / ration card / senior citizen card / PAN card etc , provided these carry your current address / name / gender /  DOB / photo and Finger – Iris scan

But unfortunately, these do not carry your biometric data !

That leaves you with the following options :

#  1

Forget getting our service from XYZ date

#  2

Go to our nearest office ( of course, with your Aadhar card and a copy of our latest bill ) and manually fill up our new “ Know Your Customer “ form , providing details of whatever different ID you choose , along with 3 photo-copies of such ID ( for us to upload onto our server ) .

We have also made arrangement for the necessary instruments to scan your finger and your iris

Caution : Bring along your lunch and bedding since the queues could be long !

#  3

Just send us an email as follows :

To  :  Our Email address ( eg: aadhar@Airtel.com  )

Sub :  Do not delete my Aadhar ID / Acceptance of OPTION  # 3

  =====================

Dear Airtel ( service provider name ),

This is in response to your email asking me to go to your nearest office to fill in a new e-KYC form along with submitting of an alternate ID [  Option # 2  ]

Although I do have such alternate ID , I wish to avoid the hassle of furnishing a new one

I therefore permit you [ Option # 3 ], to continue using my already furnished Aadhar ID and continue to provide your services without insisting on alternate ID

I am giving this permission to you on a voluntary basis , without any coercion on your part ( and free volition on my part ) and absolve you of any responsibility in respect of any breach of your database , resulting in any misuse of my private data by unauthorized persons / entities , who might hack into your server

I am giving this permission on an understanding that the Supreme Court , in its recent verdict , has permitted use of Aadhar ID for services to be rendered by private parties , if given on a voluntary basis

Yours

ABC

My coordinates are as follows :

·         Aadhar ID number is……………….

·         Address …………………………………..

·         Customer No ( as per bill )……..

Dear Service Providers [  Banks / MSP s etc  ],

Since deleting Aadhar ID of your existing customers and asking them to furnish an alternate ID , would cause nothing less than a CHAOS , causing you a loss of thousands of crore of rupees and enormous hardships to your customers , you may want to consider sending out such an E Mail to your customers ( - with whatever changes your highly paid lawyers might suggest )

You have nothing to lose and everything to gain , since 100 % of your existing customers will choose the third option  !

And , in the process , you would have established your bonafide to abide by the Supreme Court verdict ( - what with a billion email copies flooding the mail box of the court and all the Cabinet Ministers ! )

A Home without an Address ?

It is possible if your home is in the middle of a Kutchh desert

Or in the middle of a Mumbai slum

That prompted the Bombay High Court to direct State Government and BMC as follows :

·         Come up with a way to tackle the problem of encroachments across the city.

·         State and BMC should have all the slums in the city GPS-mapped, so that in case of any encroachment, action can be taken immediately.

·         The task of GPS-mapping and monitoring should be handed over to a different authority other than the BMC.

·         The state and BMC were also asked to come up with a plan along these lines before the next hearing, and posted the matter for October 3.

No doubt , a GPS based “ mapping “ of each and every hut of 100 sq ft area is entirely feasible ( - except when it is hiding under a fly over in Mumbai ?  )

If NaVIC based devices can track moving vehicles then mapping of “ stationary “ huts cannot be any problem

[ read :

But there is a Simpler / more Accurate / Quicker / and FREE, solution

Simple enough for the State government authorities /  BMC / Mumbai Police / Slum Rehabilitation department etc to implement overnight !

And the only requirement is for the users to download on their mobiles ,

I urge the BMC officer concerned to read the following email that I got from the developers and contact them directly for an elegant / quick solution :
