When will the rest follow ?

Hindustan Times ( Nov 14 , 2018 ) carries following news :

Get arrival time of BEST buses at Mumbai stops, on mobile app from March  

Commuters will also be able to see capacity of buses, vehicles plying on the route

I sent an email to BEST officers on 16  Feb  2016 , suggesting following :

[  of these , as per above-mentioned News report , by March 2019 , BEST will introduce only those highlighted in my following email  ]

When will rest get implemented  ? 

PUBLIC TRANSPORT AS A SOLUTION ?

SOLUTIONS  ( even , if partial ) :

·         Gradually change over to air conditioned buses

·         Do not allow standee passengers ( this will require adding many more buses )

·         Introduction of BRTS ( Bus Rapid Transit System )

·         Bus Arrival Time Indicators ( linked with GPS in all buses ) at all bus stops

·         A tablet type digital device fitted behind each seat , where passenger to touch his

     destination on route map displayed .

·         Passenger will also touch his smart phone to the device which will transfer the fare

     amount to the bus operator , through a mobile wallet . 

·         No need for a conductor - as practiced in many foreign countries !

     This will tell the driver , at which stops , which passengers are getting off and seat/s

     are falling vacant

·         If bus is already FULL and no passenger is getting off at the next bus stop , then driver will not halt the bus , since he cannot accommodate any standee passenger

    If a passenger is supposed to get off at , say XYZ stop , digital device will flash a

    signal / ring a bell , a few minutes before reaching the stop

·         The Bus Arrival Time Indicator , at the stop will also display the " No of Vacant Seats " in this bus

·         This ( No of Vacant Seats ) sign will also appear prominently on the bus itself as it pulls into the halt

·         It is equally easy to introduce such an integrated traffic management system in Inter- City buses as well

·         Entire intra-city bus traffic will be monitored and controlled from the Central Traffic

·         Control Station of the city traffic department , much in the same way ATC control air

     traffic or railways control train traffic

·         It is just a question of extending an existing ( but slightly modified ) technology to city traffic

·         As far as density of traffic on various roads is concerned , mobile apps are already

Available

·         Based on the situation , Central Traffic Control will order additional buses to be injected on any particular route , at any given time

In some foreign countries , even elevator systems in large office buildings are designed to gauge the number of persons waiting for elevator at each floor ( and how many want to go UP and how many want to go DOWN ), the number of persons riding at any time , within each elevator ( and their travel intentions ) and adjust their stopping / halting pattern accordingly  , automatically without human intervention !

Implementing such a system could not be a big problem for a country which takes pride in calling itself ,

A  SOFTWARE  SUPER  POWER  !

Only thing lacking is political will

Will “ Ayushman Bharat “ listen ?

On 23 Sept 2018 , on the future benefits of Ayushman Bharat scheme , I wrote :

What is in it for Ayushman Bharat  ?

Consider this :

·         Doctor takes the readings of the patient using these internet connected devices

·         Devices transmit these data to the smart phones of both , the doctor and the patient

·         These phones transmit these data to the Central Health Care Server of Ayushman Bharat

          and update the LIFE TIME MEDICAL HISTORY of that person

·         This history can be accessed only by the “ Authorised “ health centres / hospitals /

          nursing homes , which are official partners of the Ayushman Bharat scheme

Imagine all the Medical Devices ( including ECG / EEG / PET Scan ,  located in private clinics / health centers / hospitals / nursing homes / Path labs / Diagnostic centers  etc ), transmitting to a Central Server ,

 ·         medical diagnosis

·         treatment

·         administered drugs

·         surgical procedures  ,

for all 50 crore citizens covered by this scheme

And imagine such petabytes of health data being subjected to BIG DATA analysis using AI  !

Ayushman Bharat has the potential to usher this Health-care Revolution

When that happens , expect the AI to do the following :

·           offer Customized healthcare / Medical treatment / Supplementary diet 

·         guide your family doctor to prescribe the best-suited medicine for each member of your

          family

·         recommend some “ preventive “ medicines before a disease manifests itself !

There are 7,000 million people on the earth

It is possible that , at any given time , some 7 million of these are lying in ICU , connected with :

*   Electroencephalogram ( Brain Monitor )

*   Electrocardiogram      ( Heart Monitor )

*   Pulse Rate Meter

*   Oxygen Level Meter

*   Glucose Level Meter........etc

As soon as these instruments get embedded with Internet of Things ( IoT ), a central server could collect all of these " measurements / readings " on 24*7 basis , for all 7 million persons 

Then it will combine these readings with following data about each of those 7 million persons :

*   Country / Region / City  /  Language 

*   Race /  Religion  /  Gender /  Age

*   Height /  Weight  /  Colour  /  Biometrics 

*   Blood Group / DNA  / Past Medical History.....etc


It will also record , who died / when  !

Using such massive data base, can BIG DATA / Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning , figure out what " Customized healthcare / Medical treatment / Supplementary diet " should be " prescribed " for each human on this earth ?

Google Is Making An “ AI-Powered Assistant for Nurses and Doctors ”

Google is diving deeper into the healthcare sector.

Extract :

Streams is a mobile healthcare app developed by DeepMind Health, a subsidiary of AI research company DeepMind, which, like Google, is a subsidiary of Alphabet

The app does this by consolidating all of a patient’s medical data.

Everyone treating the patient can enter information into their file directly from the app, and the app can then send alerts to healthcare workers as soon as signs of a potentially life-threatening problem arise.

With Google’s full support, though, the app could very well become the go-to medical tool of healthcare professional across the globe.

Fast Forward 50  years

Today , I came across following blog ,
