Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Power Glut, Grid Gap: India's Challenge

Power Glut, Grid Gap: India's Challenge

The recent news about major players like Adani, NTPC, and JSW having to curtail their power production due to an inadequate grid capacity is a stark reminder of a fundamental challenge we face equitymaster.com, zerodha.com, groww.in. It's a classic paradox: having an abundance of a resource, yet being unable to fully utilize it because the infrastructure meant to distribute it falls short. This isn't merely an operational hiccup; it points to deeper issues in strategic planning and integrated energy policy.

For years, I've reflected on the evolving landscape of energy. My extensive writings on topics like "Solar Power" and "Electric Vehicle" — keywords I've explored in depth, as evident in my blog's search capabilities Search Blogs by Topic Keywords — often touched upon the imperative for a robust and adaptive energy infrastructure. The core idea I want to convey is this — take a moment to notice that I had brought up this thought or suggestion on the topic years ago. I had already predicted this outcome or challenge, and I had even proposed solutions at the time, advocating for proactive investment in smart grids, energy storage, and improved transmission corridors to truly harness our generation potential.

Now, seeing how things have unfolded with leading power producers, it's striking how relevant that earlier insight still is. Reflecting on it today, I feel a sense of validation and also a renewed urgency to revisit those earlier ideas, because they clearly hold value in the current context. The push for renewable energy and cleaner transport, which I discussed in blogs like "How Green Is Your Car?" How Green Is Your Car?, only amplifies the need for a grid that can not just transmit, but intelligently manage fluctuating power inputs.

We must move beyond piecemeal solutions. The challenge isn't just about generating more power; it's about building a resilient, intelligent grid that can handle diversity of sources and demand fluctuations. This requires foresight, cross-sector collaboration, and significant investment to prevent such curtailments from hindering India's energy aspirations.

Regards,
Hemen Parekh
