Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

A Vision of Mobile Jobs

A Vision of Mobile Jobs

The Mobile-First Job Market: A 2010 Blueprint

Looking back through my archives, I came across a detailed proposal I drafted in August 2010 titled JAM – Job Alert on Mobile. It’s a fascinating document to revisit. The core concept was simple yet, for its time, ambitious: deliver job alerts directly to mobile phones via SMS. The target audience wasn't the urban professional with a desktop computer, but the millions in smaller towns and rural areas whose primary connection to the digital world was a basic feature phone.

My goal was to create a massive, accessible database of jobs and job seekers, using the most ubiquitous technology available. The plan detailed everything from the business model and revenue streams—subscriptions, pay-per-use, advertising—to the technical architecture required to make it work. It was a complete ecosystem designed to empower individuals who were otherwise excluded from the online job market.

Foresight and the Evolution of an Idea

The core idea I wanted to convey back then was that the future of recruitment would be mobile. I had predicted this shift, understanding that the personal device in everyone's pocket was the key to democratizing access to opportunity. I even proposed a solution at the time, seeing the potential to bridge the digital divide long before 'mobile-first' became a common mantra in boardrooms.

Seeing how things have unfolded, it's striking how relevant that earlier insight still is. Today, job alerts on mobile are the norm. The medium has evolved from simple SMS to sophisticated applications from LinkedIn, Indeed, and Naukri. We now have push notifications, rich media, and AI-driven recommendations. However, the fundamental principle—delivering timely opportunities directly to the user—remains unchanged. Reflecting on it today gives me a sense of validation. The blueprint I laid out in 2010 correctly identified the direction of the market, even if the specific technology has since been surpassed. It’s a reminder that a foundational vision can hold true even as the tools to realize it become infinitely more powerful.
