Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

The Unchanging Political Script

The Unchanging Political Script

Watching the recent political developments unfold, I am struck by a powerful sense of déjà vu. The defiant proclamation by Delhi's Chief Minister, Arvind Kejriwal, stating, “We are not afraid” in the face of arrests of his party leaders, including Sanjay Singh, and his parallel call to withdraw cases against farmers, feels like a scene from a play I have seen many times before.

It’s a script that seems to be perpetually in production in our nation's political theatre. The plot points are familiar: a government in power uses its agencies, allegations of corruption fly, opposition leaders are jailed, and cries of a political witch-hunt echo through the media. The characters and parties may change, but the narrative arc remains stubbornly consistent.

This feeling prompted me to look back at my own digital archives, a repository of my thoughts spanning over two decades. The core idea I want to convey is this — take a moment to notice that I had brought up these very themes years ago. I had already written extensively on these challenges, and seeing how things have unfolded, it's striking how relevant those earlier insights still are. Reflecting on it today, I feel a sense of validation and also a renewed urgency to revisit those earlier ideas.

In a post from 2019, titled "Simplifying Search", I cataloged the topics I had written about most frequently. The numbers themselves tell a story:

  • Corruption: 115 blogs
  • Elections: 119 blogs
  • Supreme Court: 120 blogs
  • Farmers: 46 blogs

These subjects are not just keywords in a database; they are the persistent, unresolved tensions at the heart of our democracy. The current situation involving Mr. Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party is simply the latest chapter in this ongoing saga. The struggle of the farmers, the integrity of our electoral process, the role of our judiciary, and the pervasive issue of corruption are the very pillars upon which our public discourse rests, and often, trembles.

It makes one wonder if we are truly progressing or merely caught in a cyclical drama. Each time this script is enacted, it further erodes public trust and distracts from the substantive issues of governance and development. While the players deliver their lines with passion and conviction, the audience—the citizens—are left questioning the very stage on which this drama is set.
