India’s Population Explodes -- 5

2011 census tells us that India has 159 million children in the age group of 0 – 6 years.

Average age of India’s population, which was 25.3 years in 2009, will go up to 29 years by 2020 when the population itself will climb to 1370 million people – an increase of 160 million over today.

Will there be jobs for all these young people ?

National Skills Development Corporation ( set up in Feb 2011 ), has the mandate to provide “ Skills “ to 500 million people by 2022, to make them ” employable “ .

Like “ mandates “ of successive governments over the past 60 years to “ Abolish Poverty “ ?

India’s Population Explodes -- 2

In 2011, India’s population reached 1210 millions.

That is nearly as much as the combined populations of the next 6 most populous countries, viz:

Ø   USA …………………………..  309  millions

Ø   Indonesia  ………………..  233       “

Ø   Brazil  ………………………   195       “

Ø   Pakistan  …………………… 185        “

Ø   Bangladesh  ……………..  164        “

Ø   Nigeria  …………………….  158       “

It is also possible that there are more jobless in India than in all those 6 countries combined !

At least, by Government of India’s own projections, there will be 320 million jobless in India by 2020.

Count down to the explosion has already started !

India’s Population Explodes -- 1

In last 10 years [ 2001 – 2011 ], India’s population went up by 181 million, i.e. 18 million each year !

This means, each year, India added more people than the entire populations of :

>     Chile                      17.1  millions

>     Netherlands            16.7      “

>     Burkina Faso           16.3      “

>     Niger                      15.9      “

>     Kazakhstan             15.8      ‘

How long before India’s population bomb explodes ?

NO TAX ON LAND COMPENSATION ?

21 Sep 2011

NO  TAX  ON  LAND  COMPENSATION  ?

In Economic Times [ 17 Sept 2011 ], Devika Banerji reports :

“ Compensation awarded under the Land Acquisition Act for both, urban and rural agricultural land is exempt from income tax “

That must be sweet music to our 224 Members of Parliament ( MP ) , who have declared themselves as “ Agriculturist “ by profession.

Now everyone knows that in our country, only an “ Agriculturist “ can buy agricultural land

But, he cannot sell it to a person who is not a farmer

But he can sell it to Government under the Land Acquisition Act

And at market price, too

In the coming weeks and months, do not be surprised if you don’t find your MP in parliament

He is busy buying some agricultural land – in this land of perennial scams !

India’s Population Explodes -- 4

2011 census revealed how the populations of some of the States of India compare with entire populations of some countries. Here is the score :

Ø  Uttar Pradesh ( 199.5 millions )   Vs.   Brazil     ( 195 millions )

Ø  Maharashtra   ( 112.3 millions )   Vs.   Mexico   ( 111 millions )

Ø  Bihar             ( 103.8  millions )   Vs.  Philippines ( 94 millions )

Ø  Andhra Pradesh ( 84.6 millions )   Vs.  Egypt        ( 84 millions )

Ø  Tamil Nadu        ( 72.1 millions )   Vs.  Thailand   ( 68 millions )

Ø  Gujarat            ( 60.3 millions )    Vs.   Italy        ( 60 millions )

Ø  Jharkhand        ( 32.9 millions )    Vs.   Morocco   ( 33 millions )

These 7 states combined can surpass entire Europe which has a population of 595 millions !

This is also our wake-up call !

But wait ! Drafting of Lokpal Bill takes precedence over the ticking away population explosion bomb !

How can we let these millions die from corruption ? It is ok to let them die from starvation !

WE LEAD IN UNEMPLOYABILITY !

20 Sep 2011

WE  LEAD  IN  UNEMPLOYABILITY  !

That is the title of an article by Vineeta Pandey [ DNA / 16 Sept, 2011 ]
Following are its highlights :

  •  40 million people are registered in Employment Exchanges but only 0.2 million get jobs annually

  • 80 % of the Indian workforce does not possess identifiable / marketable skills

  • Only 25 % of the Indian professionals are considered “ employable “ by multinationals

  • Difficulty of employers in India to fill job vacancies has increased to 67 % in 2011 compared with 16 % in 2010

  • Germany has 75 % and UK has 68 % skilled workforce compared to India which account for only 2 %

S. Ramadorai, advisor to PM , adds :

  •  60 % of India’s 1210 million people are in the working age group

  • Only 10 % of the 300 million children in India between the age of 6 and 16 will pass school and go beyond

  • Only 5 % of India’s labour force in the age group 19-24 years is estimated to have acquired formal training

Arguably, this “ Unemployability “ may pose a greater threat to India’s future than corruption !

We need another Anna Hazare to fight this scourge of unemployability !

MUMBAI MERI JAAN !

20 Sep 2011

MUMBAI  MERI  JAAN  !

DNA [31 Aug 2011] quotes Global Livability Survey of EIU to say that Mumbai is amongst the worst cities to live in.

For each city surveyed, the report considers :

·      Stability

·      Healthcare

·      Culture and Environment

·      Education

·      Infrastructure

Out of 140 cities surveyed around the world, Mumbai got placed at rank 116.

But that was before they counted the potholes !

Aye dil , hai mushkil , jeena yahan

ye hai Mumbai , ye hai Mumbai , ye hai Mumbai

meri jan !

[It is impossible to live in this city, My Heart; Still Mumbai is my love !]

India’s Population Explodes -- 3

India’s Child ( 0 – 6 years ) sex ratios were :

 In 2001 ……………….. 927 girls for 1000 boys

 In 2011 ……………….. 914 girls for 1000 boys

Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner, C. Chandramouli says :

“ The census indicated a continuing preference for male children over female children. This is a matter of grave concern.”

But India politicians do not seem to be bothered – except for Farooq Abdullah who warned,

“ The male sex is growing and women are getting eliminated. The days are not far when there will be no girls to marry and we’ll all become gays “
