Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

One Small Step ….

When Neil Armstrong set foot on the moon, he said :

"That's one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind."

SMALL  STEP  by RBI ( Reserve Bank of India )

Today’s Times of India reported that small step as follows :

In a first, RBI allows KYC process on mobile video

Extract :

Ø  In a move that will enable banks and fintechs onboard customers remotely, the RBI has amended its norms to allow the “ Know Your Customers ( KYC ) “, process to be completed trough a MOBILE VIDEO CONVERSATION.

Ø  The Central Bank has also facilitated  eKYC and digital KYC by allowing use of Aadhar or other e-documents in the customer due diligence process

Ø  “Non-banks, although they don’t have access to eKYC, can complete the process by using the physical Aadhar or the QR code “ , said Naveen Surva, Chairman of Fintech Convergence Council [ info@fintechcouncil.in ]

Ø  RBI said, “ Digital KYC has been defined as capturing live photo of the customer and officially valid document or the proof of possession of Aadhar, where OFFLINE verification cannot be carried out, along with the latitude and longitude of the location “

Ø  NITI Aayog chief, Amitabh Kant said in a tweet :
“ Great initiative by RBI !  Circular on video-based customer identification process will make presence-less and paperless banking, a reality. The circular is a huge positive step towards Prime Minister
Narendra Modi’s goal of Digital Financial Inclusion “

=========================================================

Early 2018 , while delivering its judgement on Aadhar case, Supreme Court said :

“ Corporate entities like banks and telecom service providers cannot ask for customers’ Aadhar ID for e-KYC

That made me send following emails to COAI , DoT , TELCOs and the Supreme Court ,

suggesting that there is nothing illegal in VOLUNTARY use of Aadhar ID by anyone for any purpose :

GIANT  LEAP   by Indian Government

e = mc^2

electronic = mobile x customer x card =  e-KYC  =  e-YUP,

where YUP (  Your Unique Profile ) is the Single Unified Identity for Indian Citizen , which will replace ALL Identifying Cards issued by ALL entities to an Indian Citizen

Cards such as Aadhar – PAN – Ayushman Bharat – Ration – Senior Citizen – Driving License – Voter ID – Passport etc (- and any other likely to be introduced under Census – NPR - NCR  - which should be conducted through mobile app YUP – and not manually )

In my following email to the Policy Makers, I have conceptualized the process for issue of e-YUP as follows :

[ source :   I am One , I will become Many   /  06 Jan 2020  ]

=================================

Ø  Central Govt to launch an online portal called,

(  Single Unified Identity for Indian Citizen )

Ø  By appropriately enacted Law, Central Govt will order all CARD ISSUING AGENCIES to upload their “ Card Related Databases “ onto SUIIC web server and continue to do so DAILY for new additions to their databases

Ø   SUIIC will use AI - Machine Learning - Big Data Analytics etc.,  to merge / collate all kinds of structured / unstructured databases pertaining to all kinds of Cards / unique IDENTIFIERS, issued by any entity, to any citizen

These will include Mobile Service Providers and E Mail ID providers

Ø  This exercise will lead to creation of UNIQUE PROFILE for each citizen, and named :

YUP  ( Your Unique Profile )

YUP ( with unique serial number ) will be that SINGLE CARD which replaces all CARDS

Ø  YUP will also be the name of a Mobile App supported by SUIIC web server

Ø  Any citizen can download the YUP ( absolutely VOLUNTARY ) , open it on his smart phone , enter his mobile number / E Mail ID and take a SELFIE of his own FACE

Ø  The Mobile App will automatically and instantly, upload the FACE IMAGE onto SUIIC database and the matching YUP of that person

Ø  SUIIC will embed into the FACE PHOTO , all data of all the CARDS ever issued to that person ( using STEGANOGRAPHY ), and send it back to the owner’s mobile phone

Ø  Just under the FACE PHOTO, there will be a DROP LIST of all the Cards / Identifiers which have been embedded . Touching any item, will reveal the actual Physical Card

Ø  This will enable that citizen to EDIT his personal data online and click SUBMIT

Ø  Anytime required in future, that citizen can show that YUP photo to any party

Ø  There will be no compulsion for any citizen to use YUP . He may continue using his Physical Cards, if he so desires

======================================================

This is a very broad “ CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK “ – and certainly not comprehensive by any standard

Eg :

Going beyond merging / aggregating / unifying , all existing physical cards belonging to a person, what about :

Ø  Enabling him to use YUP to create ( for the first time ), an altogether different card ?

Ø  Enabling a person to create a new Voter Card, upon attaining the age of 18 ?

=======================================================

Dear Shri RaviShankar Prasadji,

Introduction / launching of Mobile App YUP , will render all opposition to CAA – NPR – NCR etc irrelevant

No State , no matter governed by which political party , can prevent its citizen to download / use YUP , and generate his / her unique profile !

If taken, this will be that GIANT LEAP for the Central Government

With regards,

Hemen parekh

A PM’s Dare ?

At recently concluded 107th Indian Science Congress, Shri Narendra Modi challenged the scientists to develop new battery types , saying :

    We need to pay attention to grid management as we expand our renewable energy
     supply.

     These require developing new battery types which are ,

Ø  based on environmentally benign materials,

Ø  not monopolistic,

Ø  affordable on 100s of Giga-Watt scale,

Ø  suitable for tropical climates

=====================================================

Scientists from Monash University ( Australia ) , seem to have come up with just such a battery !

Here is that report :

Extract :
Ø  Now, researchers have developed a lithium-sulfur battery that could power a smartphone for five days straight or can also enable an electric vehicle to drive for over 1000km.

Ø  The lithium-sulfur battery developed by researchers from Monash University has an ultra-high capacity with better performance and less environmental impact than the commercially-used lithium-ion batteries

Ø  The new battery design has
      #    Higher capacity,
      #    Better performance,
      #    Lower manufacturing costs,
     #     Abundant material supply,
     #    Fluent manufacturing process, and
     #     Reduced environmental footprint

Ø   Outperforming the batteries in the market by over four times, it is the world's most efficient lithium-sulphur (Li-S) battery design making it promising for large-scale real-world applications.

Ø  Professor Majumder from Monash University explained,

“Successful fabrication and implementation of Li-S batteries in cars and grids will capture a more significant part of the estimated $213 billion value chain of Australian lithium, and will revolutionise the Australian vehicle market and provide all Australians with a cleaner and more reliable energy market.”

Dear Dr S Jaishankarji,

[   External Affairs Minister /  eam@mea.gov.in  ]

In my following email a few days back, some of the problem-areas I listed were :

[ https://myblogepage.blogspot.com/2020/01/thank-you-dr-s-jaishankarji.html ]

Ø  Charging of Batteries of Electric Vehicles takes hours !

Ø  No way to store ( for use at night ), billions of KWH of Solar Power

Ø  Dependence on import for Li-ion batteries / Fast charging button batteries

I urge the NEST division [ NEST = New emerging and strategic technologies ] , recently set up in your Ministry , to get in touch with,

Shri Narendrabhai Modi would welcome such an initiative on part of NEST
