Move up to the next level

It’s not all fun and games. Some
employees are learning how to weld and spray-paint in the metaverse, taking to virtual factory floors to pick up new skills.
Earlier this year, the Mumbai-based XR
hardware and software company Ajnalens collaborated with Tata Technologies to equip 150
Industrial Training Institutes or ITIS in Karnataka with Ajnaxr stations for 9,000 students. (XR or Extended Reality
combines physical and digital reality.)
Each station has an attached VR headset.
In a digital workshop, the avatar of an instructor takes students
through training modules using real
industry-graded welding torches and spray guns (which are not connected to gas
or paint). Sensors recreate their movements in the virtual world.
“Since the equipment they use is real,
it can be tracked with extreme accuracy by software programs,” says Pankaj Raut, co-founder and CEO of Ajnalens.
“There’s an analysis report on how each student is performing, and this report determines whether or not they
get a certificate at the end of the module.”
Venkatesh Babu, 19, who is currently in
one of the spray-painting modules, says the XR experience has been the
highlight of his electric-vehicle workmanship course.
“I enjoy the virtual practice sessions
the most, because I do not have to worry about wasting paint or restarting from
scratch if I make mistakes,” he says.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad-based VR/AR
company Imaginate has created a
digital twin of the Reliance Industries deep sea drilling rig off the coast of
Andhra Pradesh, to help employees train in subsea operations.
Employees use VR headsets to meet as 3D
avatars in a virtual
room where the avatar of an instructor conducts demos and training
sessions.
“After these sessions, the employees perform evaluation tasks in the virtual world that then certify them as ready for realworld
experience,” says Hemanth Satyanarayana, founder and CEO at Imaginate.
Next up is a project with MG Motors
that will involve setting up a
virtual training centre for service
technicians, with virtual showrooms for training in sales.
“Skilling in the metaverse will be
earliest adopted in industries that use expensive equipment that can be
simulated through AR and VR,” says Ventakesh Hariharan, who works at the
intersection of tech, society and policy and is the Indian representative at
the Open Invention Network, which protects the open-source community from
patent litigations.
“Startups offering such services will
also see a lower mortality rate than B2C metaverse startups once the hype dies
down.”

National
Skills University : Virtual is the only way…………….. [ 03 Apr 2021 ]
Extract :
Role
Ø It should
NOT engage in direct / face-to-face / physical Skilling on its own campus
Ø It should
be a VIRTUAL university, offering ONLINE courses to anyone desirous to take a
course
Ø It
will mostly concern itself at figuring out those hundreds of Skills required by the Industries
/ Businesses / Enterprises, and publish on its Portal ( “ WHO wants WHAT
skill “ type matrix ). For such compilation, it will invite TRADE
ASSOCIATIONS – PROFESSIONAL BODIES
Ø It
will invite and collaborate with entities which can develop / create “ Skill
Delivery Contents “ for these kills ( at levels such as, Semi-Skilled / Skilled
/ Highly Skilled / Master Craftsman ) . For each of these LEVELS ( and for each
SKILL ), it will develop CERTIFICATION EXAM QUESTION BANKS for download by Users
Ø Such
entities could be existing ITIs – Engg Colleges – Foreign Universities –
Public/Private Sector Companies - Online portals such as ByJu – Khan Academy etc
Ø The cost
/ expense incurred by the Content Contributors, will count against their CSR
obligations
Ø University
will be free to BUY such content from contributors
Ø University
will approach entities like Google to join in this effort
Ø University
will approach all Internet Service Providers for giving FREE bandwidth to Users
for downloading content or for streaming ONLINE AR / VR instructions
Ø University
will approach AR / VR headset manufacturers ( such as Occulus – Facebook –
Apple – Google – Microsoft – IBM etc ), to develop very
light weight and cheap ( Rs 5,000
) glasses for REGISTERD users of Skills University ( Central Govt may consider subsidizing such glasses to REGISTERED
users ONLY )

Ø Organizing the Unorganized ………………………. [ 04 Feb 2019 ]

Ministry of Skills Development
· There are around 15,000 skill training centres in the country right now, which are inadequate
for India’s size
· We need to train at least 2 crore people every year, but right now we’re training only 1.05 crore. We
need to double our capacity
· At
Rs 3 cr / centre , we need Rs 45,000 cr to construct additional 15,000 centres , to be able to
train 2 cr youth / year . It will take years to construct these
centres , even if the required funds were available ( - which is not ! )
· To
bypass both of these limitations , I suggest :
# Transform millions of MSME into “ Skill Training Centres “
# Deliver online Training Courses for development of various skills through
the
MaanDhan Scheme
be provided
These can be used not only by the apprentices
own workers

Ø Peter’s WEB 3.0 ……………………………[ 09 Dec 2018 ]
Extract :
Our only hope is to turn India into ,
" BACK FACTORY " OF THE WORLD ?
[ 09 Sept 2015 ]
· This is NOW possible, if our
Policy Makers decide to leverage WEB 3.0 , for skilling 2 crore youth each year , right from their ( internet connected ) homes , eliminating need for setting up another 15,000 ITIs ( buildings – machineries – teaching staff etc ) . Virtual Training courses will
need very little investment and very quick implementation !
· Such Virtual Training courses
( using VR
headsets ) can be configured around
the needs of other countries which are facing shortage of skilled manpower for
specific jobs ( Eg : Japan just
passed a law to allow thousands of Skilled Migrants from abroad for construction, nursing, farming, transport and tourism — new categories of
jobs to be added to the current list of highly skilled professionals.
source :
https://www.tvnz.co.nz/one-news/world/allowing-immigrants-only-option-japan-oks-divisive-bill-more-foreign-workers
· Such Virtual Training courses can be sourced
from those Foreign Companies themselves which are facing such manpower
shortages , or from Professional Bodies representing such industries in those
foreign companies
· Our very own Start Ups would flourish by supplying millions of VR headsets ( to be purchased by the Central Government and then given
away FREE to trainees who
register on NSDC web site for specific courses , after verification of internet
availability at their homes ). Other Start Ups may even design VR courses
· Exams – Tests
– Certification of VR TRAINEES will
be online from their homes (
no fixed date / time for appearing in online exams ) and without human intervention
· Foreign
Employers would interview these ( passed out ) trainees using a portal such as :
