Unemployed Vs. Unfilled Jobs

It is indeed a dichotomy.

On one hand, most countries have millions of unemployed with unemployment rates ranging from 10 % to 25 %.

On other hand , very same countries have unfilled jobs due to non-availability of workers with ” right “ skills.

Here is an example :

                                       USA               EUROPE

Unemployed…………………….9.8 % …………….22.9  Million

Unfilled  Jobs  …………………3.0 million ……..20.0  Million

As per a European Commission study, Europe will need to fill an “ additional “ 16 million “ highly-skilled ” jobs by 2020 , taking the total to 36 million !

Countries like India churn-out 3.5 million graduates each year but find that only 0.5 million possess the right skills to get employed !

Are educationists listening ?

COMPULSORY MANUAL WORK?

Or, risk losing your welfare benefits worth Pound 64.30/week for 3 months?

That is the message, Work and Pensions Secretary Ian Duncan Smith of UK is sending to those who are “financially better off unemployed “!

And the manual work that he offers (Gardening/Clearing up litter/Painting Schools) will pay “more than welfare benefits“.

2.5 million “unemployed “ Britons should welcome any dignified way of earning livelihood.

And the best part is :

This work cannot be “ outsourced “ !

JOB SEARCH BY JOB TITLE

Now you can search 2.3 million jobs by their job titles.

For most jobseekers, job title is the most important criteria to be considered while conducting a job search.

Job title is what decides your position in the corporate hierarchy.

Job title determines your professional standing amongst your peers / co-professionals.

Even your ability to negotiate a higher salary depends upon your current designation.

Do not search jobs – Search for the right job title.

IF YOU CAN OUTSOURCE, SO CAN I !

This is what teachers seem to be telling the students, who are outsourcing to an army of web-based writers, the task of preparing Essays / Term Papers / Assignments.

Teachers of 450 schools in India are “sourcing“ readymade “ Lesson-Plans “ from a company headed by Ramgopal Vallath.

His company has prepared 8,000 lesson – plans across all subjects for Nursery to Seventh Standard.

Who says ‘ intermediaries ‘ will lose their jobs with the arrival of internet ?

With every passing day, we see internet creating many new jobs.

And most such internet – based jobs are being created by people who were themselves rendered jobless a few months back.

They decided not to take it lying down and became “self-employed“.

Opportunities do not ‘arrive‘– you have to go, find them.

TEACHERS ARE ALL-TOO HUMAN !

3 Dec 2010

TEACHERS ARE ALL-TOO HUMAN !

In Nov.2010, I reported re: Australian students outsourcing to teachers overseas,

·                Essays / Term Papers / Assignments

at $ 2 per piece – and without local teachers losing jobs.

Now, it is the turn of these teachers to outsource the preparation of their own “lesson – plans “to a company that supplies such plans!

Ramgopal Vallath, CEO of this company says,

“ We’ve created over 8,000 lesson-plans across all subjects for Nursery to Seventh Standard, and it reaches 450 schools across India.”

Stany Pinto, trustee of Holy Family group of schools (Mumbai) says,

“Preparation of lesson-plans is a very time-consuming affair. Not all teachers have the time and energy to go back home and work on it. Having readymade plans helps in organizing lessons better.”

I suspect this trend is bound to accelerate till someone comes-up with the idea of

·                Eliminating the intermediaries (viz: Teachers/Students)

·                Letting the “Assignment Writers “deal directly with the “ Lesson-Plan Creators“!

OUTSOURCING WITHOUT JOB LOSS ?

17 Nov 2010

OUTSOURCING  WITHOUT  JOB LOSS  ?

When Ali Khan of Pakistan gets from Australian students, assignments to write term papers / essays / dissertations., he is not causing any job loss in Australia.

These are “ jobs “ that no Australian teacher is supposed to be engaged in. And at $ 2/- per assignment, who would be interested, in any case ?

23 year old Pakistani graduate says,

“ It is my part time job. I get work from all over the world, including Australia, US and the UK. “

It is not a question of  parents and academicians not liking this trend.

Question is :

When they graduate , will there be ‘ any ‘ jobs for these students?

“ Motivated “ in your resume? Don’t even say !

In your resume, if you write that you are “ motivated “, you are not alone.

In his profile, every jobseeker writes that he is motivated.

Since LinkedIn has profiles of over 85 million members, it was able to compile the following list of the most used / overused / abused words:

Ø   Motivated
Ø   Extensive experience
Ø   Innovative
Ø   Proven track record
Ø   Dynamic
Ø   Team player
Ø   Proactive
Ø   Entrepreneurial
Ø   Skill set
Ø   Problem solver

Spokesman of LinkedIn offers following advice to jobseekers ( jobless or even currently employed ) :

“ These phrases can appear empty to potential employer and may do more harm than good when you include them in your profile or resume. If you’re using any of these ten terms, wipe them out “.

In the meantime, recruiters are waiting for a software which will automatically reject any resume that contains more than 2 of these words !
