Skills Shortage / Labor Shortage / Staff Shortage / Workforce

Here is a win-win situation ( as reported in Times of India / May,06,2011 ) :

Ø   A “ Skills Australia “ report estimates that Australia will need 2.4 million more skilled workers within 4 years

Ø   Australian trainers will train 100,000 Indians in Indian Universities over the next 4 years

Ø   Of these, 30,000 will be recruited to work in Australia

Ø   Any Indians who come to Australia under the scheme would be employed on the same conditions as Australians, subject to Immigration rules

National Skills Development Corporation ( NSDC - set up in Feb 2011 ), has the mandate to provide “ Skills “ to 500 million Indians by 2022, to make them ” employable “ .

How about India importing 30,000 Australian Trainers for this purpose ?

That would make for a true “ Win – Win “ situation !

From “ Sworn “ to “ Sworn-in “

If you are an Indian, return on investment over 5 years would have been as follows :

Gold – 138 % /  Mutual Funds – 67 % / Shares – 64 % / Fixed Deposits – 46 %

But you could have doubled your assets if you were a “ Sworn-in “ MLA ( Member of Legislative Assembly ).

It might even help if you happen to be a “ Sworn “ criminal as well !

Here is proof :

[ State ]   /   [% increase in assets of re-contesting MLAs in 5 years ]  /  [ % of MLA against whom criminal cases are pending ]

Ø  Tamil Nadu        /     195 %     /    29 %

Ø  Assam               /     187 %    /     10 %

Ø  Kerala               /     175 %     /     ?

Ø  Puduchhery       /     136 %     /     30 %

Ø  West Bengal      /       71  %    /     35 %

[ Source : Times of India / 19 May,2011 ]

These figures are based on the affidavits filed by the MLAs with the Election Commission.

Thank God , Election Commission does not require you to declare the assets of your relatives !

India’s Population Explodes — 4

2011 census revealed how the populations of some of the States of India compare with entire populations of some countries. Here is the score :
 Uttar Pradesh ( 199.5 millions ) Vs. Brazil ( 195 millions )
 Maharashtra ( 112.3 millions ) Vs. Mexico ( 111 millions )
 Bihar ( 103.8 millions ) Vs. Philippines ( 94 millions )
 Andhra Pradesh ( 84.6 millions ) Vs. Egypt ( 84 millions )
 Tamil Nadu ( 72.1 millions ) Vs. Thailand ( 68 millions )
 Gujarat ( 60.3 millions ) Vs. Italy ( 60 millions )
 Jharkhand ( 32.9 millions ) Vs. Morocco ( 33 millions )
These 7 states combined can surpass entire Europe which has a population of 595 millions !
This is also our wake-up call !
But wait ! Drafting of Lokpal Bill takes precedence over the ticking away population explosion bomb !
How can we let these millions die from corruption ? It is ok to let them die from starvation !

Water Water Everywhere !

But not a drop to drink ?

Food and Agriculture Organization ( FAO ) estimates that, every year, about 1300 million tons of food grains get wasted across the world.

670 million tons in industrialized countries.

630 million tons in developing countries.

India’s Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar admits that the country wastes Rs.58,000 Crore [ $ 12.88 billions ] worth of food grains every year due to lack of or poor storage facilities.

But Government of India disregards repeated pleading by the Supreme Court to distribute these food grains quickly ( before these rot away ), to those 2.5 million poor people who die of malnutrition every year.

64 years after getting “ Swa-rajya “ ( Independence ), we are still waiting for “ Su-rajya “ ( Good Governance ).

In the meantime, we keep on debating endlessly / paranoidly , whether Prime Minister should be covered by Lokpal Bill or not ,as if “ Su-rajya “ entirely depends on that !

Just One Insult ?

Yes, just one insult started MahaBharat.

When Duryodhan unsuspectingly walked into a pool of water, Draupadi taunted ;

“ Children of blind are blind “

Duryodhan never forgot and vowed revenge. Rest is history.

For the last few months, everyone is insulting everyone else. Here are the characters :

·     Spokesmen ( and women ) of political parties

·     Other sundry politicians

·     Self-appointed guardians of civil society

·     Ministers

·     Gurus of all kind

·     Bureaucrats

·     Actors

·     Businessmen

·     Media Anchors

·     Anyone seeking cheap publicity

I have sat in the audience and listened to Mahatmaji / Pandit Nehru / Atalji / Shastriji / Jai Prakashji etc. speak bitter truth but always in a polite / dignified way – always respecting the opponents.

With insults being hurled in every direction like mis-guided missiles, is Mera Bharat headed for a MahaBharat ?

SUBVERTING DEMOCRACY ?

Ministers are claiming that Baba Ramdev and Anna Hazare are subverting democratic processes.

Now come on !

Is making people aware of a social evil, making them aware of their democratic rights, a subversion of parliamentary democracy ?

To my best knowledge, neither Anna nor Baba, has ever advocated dissolution of parliament and imposition of President’s rule !

They are fully aware – and staunchly believe – that Lokpal Bill / Delivery of Service Bill / Recall of Elected Representatives Bill etc. have to be passed by the parliament.

I think Baba / Anna should now , focus their energies, their arguments on educating the members of parliament.

How about asking our Members of Parliament to attend public hearings in their respective constituencies and openly declare their “stand“ on these bills and how they plan to vote?

And conducting non-violent, peaceful, absolutely silent demonstrations in front of their homes ? Those are perfectly democratic processes !

They are answerable to people who elected them !

On 9th Day of the fast

Here is my appeal to  PM / Pranab / Khurshid / Advaniji :

Please do not make this a personal prestige issue. Compromise for the sake of nation’s prestige.

Settle on following compromise formula – and today itself :

Ø   Prime Minister and Chief Justice of India to be excluded from the purview of proposed Lokpal Bill

Ø   All other ministers / judges to be included

Ø   All MPs / MLAs to be included

Ø   All government servants to be included, irrespective of rank

Ø   Maximum punishment for those found corrupt to be life imprisonment

Ø   Lokpal to be made answerable to the President of India and can be dismissed / punished by the President if deemed to be corrupt

Ø   Lokpal shall not hold any other “ position of profit “, nor can be a retired government servant

Ø   Black money ( whether illegally stashed abroad or within the country ) to be declared “ National Asset / National Wealth “

Ø   Encourage black money to be repatriated legally – and without penalty – if invested in Govt approved Infrastructure Bonds / SPVs

Ø   Gradually reduce personal income tax to a max of 15 % and Corporate tax to a max of 20%

Ø   Start drafting a separate bill whereby voters can recall their elected representative to Panchayats / Municipalities / Legislative Assemblies / Parliament

Ø   Let this be an MOU to be signed by all present at today’s all party meet. Present it to Anna with a request to end fast.

There are always two parties to a dispute. Any agreement reached must appear like a win-win situation to both. If any party gets a feeling that it “ lost out “, then it will find ways and means to sabotage the agreement.

What good is an agreement that looks good on a piece of paper but just cannot be implemented ?

Please forget the events of last few days. Make the first move towards reconciliation. Nation expects from you humility / magnanimity. Mud slinging will take you nowhere !
