Healthcare : The Unfolding Story





Over the past 2 days , news papers carried following headlines :









An article in Business Line ( 19 June ) reads :



  Google had created a tool that could forecast a host of patient outcomes , including, how long people may stay in hospitals, their odds of re-admission and chances they will soon die



What impressed medical experts most was Google’s ability to sift through data previously out of reach ; notes buried in PDFs or scribbled on old charts




The neural net gobbled up all this unruly information then spat out predictions . And it did it far faster and more accurately than existing techniques 






Now imagine what Google will be able to do ( beyond just calculating accurately, the probability of a patient’s death ) , if it had access to each and every “ Diagnostic and Curative “ medical DEVICE / INSTRUMENT of the entire world , as described in my following blog :

There are 7,000 million people on the earth


It is possible that , at any given time , some 7 million of these are lying in ICU , connected with :



*   Electroencephalogram ( Brain Monitor )


*   Electrocardiogram      ( Heart Monitor )


*   Pulse Rate Meter


*   Oxygen Level Meter


*   Glucose Level Meter........etc



As soon as these instruments get embedded with 
Internet of Things ( IoT ), a central server could collect all of these " measurements / readings " on 24*7 basis , for all 7 million persons

 

Then it will 
combine these readings with following data about each of those 7 million persons :


*   
Country / Region / City  /  Language 

*   
Race /  Religion  /  Gender /  Age

*   
Height /  Weight  /  Colour  /  Biometrics 

*   
Blood Group / DNA  / Past Medical History.....etc


It will also record , who died / when  !


Using such massive data base, can BIG DATA / Artificial Intelligence / Machine Learning ,
figure out what " Customized healthcare Medical treatment Supplementary diet "
should be " prescribed " for each human on this earth ?



Shall we support such " Invasion of Individual Privacy " , in the larger interest / benefit
of entire mankind ?

Mahindra Accelo : Saluting a pioneer




Mahindra Accelo has set up a plant in Delhi-NCR , for recycling of old / scrapped cars and looking to set up,



*   one each in Panvel / Chennai / Indore / Kolkata / Bengaluru ( March 2019 )



*   28 others in other cities within next 2 years




In an interview with Mumbai Mirror , Mahindra Accelo MD , Shri Sumit Issar said :



*    There are many parts in an old car which can be recycled . The biggest component in
      any car is steel – about 70 per cent


      
      For every tonne of steel made in the country , 1115 kg of iron ore, 625 kg of coal,
      53 kg of lime stone, 642 kilowatt of energy and 287 litre of oil are used



      If you are able to recycle even 1 tonne of steel, imagine the savings on iron ore , coal, and power ….. Moving forward, we want to recycle steel in a big way ….  Our recycling process is completely automated……. Our automated plant has the capacity to recycle old trucks , buses, cars and two / three wheelers ….. We will pay them to take their car , pick it up and get it de-registered from the Regional Transport Office . All they need to ensure that their vehicle has a registration number



Automotive recycling is the only way out. In India , there is no policy on it .



Vehicles that are over 15 years old are either still on the roads, or are lying abandoned.



India imports 6 – 8 million tons of scrap a year .


Imagine the savings if it starts recycling steel and scrap is available locally

 CONTEXT :



*  Currently , unorganized / manual car-scrappers , recycle some 4 million cars per year
   in India



*   If government mandates,


     #    compulsory scrapping of all vehicles which are more than 15
           year old and 


      #   total stopping of production of petrol / diesel vehicles by 2030,


    

    then the number of vehicles needing scrapping and recycling will be , 20 MILLION
    per year ( year after year )






MY  SUGGESTION :



I had sent following email to our Cabinet Ministers / NITI Aayog / PM –EAC etc , on 14  FEB  2018 :

NaviC : the Navigator





And here is how NaviC  will navigate us :

*   The navigation system will help in terrestrial, aerial and marine navigation. It will also help people track vehicles, manage fleets and disasters as well as map and capture geological data


*   India's desi navigation will challenge foreign GPS systems as it is considered to be more accurate with a position accuracy of five metres. The GPS has a position accuracy of 20-30 metres.


*   The Request for Proposal (RFP) has been called to start the implementation of NavIC. Once it is launched officially, the platform will be popularized, according to IT secretary Ajay Prakash Sawhney.

25,000 New Petrol Pumps ? Why ?


Where  Angels  fear  to  tread  !



Just came across following news in Economic Times ( 18 June ) :





 



Highlights :


*    There are already 57,000  State-run retail outlets


*    6,000 pumps are run by private companies


*    HPCL / BPCL / IOC to appoint new dealers after 4 years





MY   TAKE :


*   Investment in existing 57,000 pumps is approx. Rs 6.5 LAKH*CRORE



*   At this rate , those 25,000 NEW petrol pumps might need an investment of Rs 3
     LAKH*CRORE



*   Such a huge proposed investment on part of HPCL / BPCL / IOC , seems awfully risky
     in light of the following  developments around the corner  :



     #   India is on a crash course to switch over to Electric Vehicles by 2030 ( 6
           million by 2022 )




    #   Indian Auto Industry is planning an investment of Rs 58,000 crores in the next
          2years ( mostly for manufacture of EV / Lithium-ion Batteries and Battery
          Charging Stations )



        
   #    ABB has announced a Battery Flash Charging Technology which can fully recharge
         a battery in 8 minutes or even 5 minutes !



         As fast as filling up your tank with petrol !

       And such a car costs no more than Rs 12.6 Lakhs , what EESL paid to TATA and

    

       M&M for traditional Electric cars  ( yet to be delivered since some ministries have

 

       not found time in last 12 months to lay down the “ specifications “ for those battery

 

       charging stations ! )

 

 

 

       I urge our Policy Makers to give up the idea of “ Traditional TESLA type Electric Cars

 

       “ and encourage Indian Manufacturers to go for SONO type cars

 

 

 

       By modifying  the  FAME Scheme  subsidy as follows :

 

 

       *  For TESLA type traditional cars      >   Existing Rs 1.4 lakh

 

       *  For SONO type solar roof top cars  >    Rs 5 lakh

 

 

       This simple measure will ensure no need for Battery Charging Stations !

 

 

        There is no better way to divert that Rs 3 Lakh*crore ( for 25,000 new Petrol

 

        Pumps ) than to use it for the enhanced subsidy as described above !
