Context :
Go digital: Electioneering to take online route; EC to check violations
through cVIGIL / ET / 09 Jan
Extract :
Digital
transformation of India comes of age, with the major part of elections,.. going
virtual this time
EC directed the
political parties to take the digital
route for most of their activities
CEC Shushil
Chandra, announced that online
nominations will be allowed for Assembly elections in 5 states
This feature is
being introduce to avoid crowding
“ No roadshows ,
pad-yatras, cycle or bike rallies and processions will be allowed till 15 Jan. “
Interestingly,
political parties in all poll-bound states, are well prepared for their digital
transformation and have already been trying their hands at technology to reach
out to the electorate
The second step in
the election process, campaigns and roadshows, are also going to be virtual this time.
The Social Media
Think Tanks of each political party, and even for individual candidates, are
already busy working out strategies to take full advantage of online platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook
, Twitter , Instagram and YouTube
To curb the entry
of criminal elements into political arena , the country’s election authority
has made it mandatory on part of all political parties to upload criminal records of their candidates on ECI website, along
with their nominations
The EC was also
working on an application to allow people to punch their votes
sitting home
However, this time
it may be introduced partially – like election officials going to the voter with a device to get the voting
done. This facility will be provided to people who can’t move due to old age or
physical disability
It is not unlikely that in near future, people will be allowed to vote from their mobile devices,
transforming the entire election scenario of India which is the most noisy ritual
that comes now and then
MY TAKE :
Perseverance pays
Even if my 33 + e-mails over the past 9 years
listed below and starting with :
VotesApp ……….[ 18 Dec 2012 / Voting using a Smartphone ],
may not have by
themselves , succeeded in bringing about the above-mentioned directives of the
Election Commission, I am grateful to the Election Commissioner for initiating
this DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION of the elections
Dear
Readers,
Even if, for whatever
reasons, you are unable to exercise your “ Right to
Vote “ , I urge you to exercise your “ Right to
Influence “, by sending your own views to the Election Commissioner, re VotesApp
With Regards,
