Quantum
Jump ?
And it will get even better when Quantum Computers
become commercially available in next 2 years
I am referring to Google’s announcement 4 days back ,
of its semantic search engine called “ Talk to Book “
Answers to your questions in more
than 100,000 books
April
13, 2018
Against my following “ Questions ( Search Terms ) “ , Talk to Book
“ returned names of 5 books in each case ( of course ,
you can click “ more samples “ ) , which
were quite relevant ( figures in brackets indicate the number of links returned
in standard Google Search Bar ) :
* Will AI
ever succeed in enslaving mankind ? (
86,500 )
* What will
be the effect of global warming by 2025
? ( 544,000
)
* When we
land on Mars, can we survive ? (
843,000 )
* What is the future of humanity ?
( 48,00,000 )
As per Google , semantic search is not based on finding
in a database , documents with , “
matching keywords / phrases “
It is based on searching for “ meaning “ !
What are the implications ?
Could “ Semantic Search “ be V 2.0 , of our current , too
familiar Google Search bar ? – with fewer but more relevant results ?
In course of next few months , will Google release a “ Semantic Search Plugin “ which web site developers can
integrate with their offerings ?
Imagine, what this can do if plugged into social media
web sites (Facebook/Twitter etc )
A further unravelling
of Privacy ?
Or , into job portals such as Naukri / Monster /
Timesjobs / Shine or even LinkedIn
?
Elimination of intermediaries like head-hunters /
recruiters ?
Or, will “ Google
Home / Google Assistant “ altogether make obsolete, that Google
search bar ?
Just speak up
and listen ?
Could we , someday soon , tell “ Google Home “ (
embedded in every smart phone ) :
“ From your database of blogging sites , find that poem
in which a 26 year old poet praises the beauty of his 20 year old beloved “
{ For last 2 days, I cannot get ALEXA ECHO to even play
songs of most Indian artists / playback singers ! }
Probably , the first industry to morph due to “
Semantic Search Plugin “ would be “ Online E Paper “ websites of Times of India
/ Hindustan Times / Hindu / DNA / Bhaskar etc , with their database of billions
of “ News Stories / Text Documents “ of past 10 years
