SUMMARY :



How large  ?



*  18.9 million applications for 62,907 jobs ( Group D : Track Maintainer / Gangman /
    Pointsman /  Switchman /  helper / porter )

   
*   4.755 million applications for 26,500 jobs ( Automotive loco pilot )


*  1100 centres / 350 cities / 74 shifts / 25 days ( for Online Exams held in 2014 hiring
    drive )


*   Expected to be spread over ONE YEAR


*   Education Qualification required is 10th Standard pass


*   Of the 30.3 million people who started the Application Process, only 23 million
    Completed


*  Number of students shortlisted for the second stage is usually 15 times the no of
   openings





What is the Process  ?



*  Receive paper applications through post ( along with refundable advance exam fee of
    Rs 100 )


*  Sorting done by computer program that can filter out applications where the
    accompanying photo is of an animal or a building

   
*  Further manual sorting


*  Creating / securing Question Papers ( English / Reasoning / Math / Science / Current
   Affairs )


*  Questions translated in 15 Indian languages ( 7200 questions )


*  Each candidate informed about CITY ( 10-15days in advance )


*  Each applicant is allocated an examination centre ( 2 days before exam )


*  Each question paper is unique / no question paper can resemble another


*  Questions sent directly to the applicant’s computer screen


*  Ensuring that every student in a class room receives a different set of questions


*  Those who clear the second stage are put through a psychological assessment


*  Lists are made ( manually ) of selected candidates , according to QUOTAS under
    various categories ( SC / ST / OBC creamy layer / OBC non-creamy layer / ex-
    servicemen / physically challenged


*  Internal calibrations made within each category


*  Put up “ Objection Tracker “ on Regional Railway Recruitment Board web sites , where
   candidates can view the question paper , their own answers and the correct answers .


   If not satisfied with what is displayed, candidates an object to the fairness of the
   Process






How is this huge process managed ?



* Parts of this process are out-sourced to external recruitment firms through a bidding
   process that  takes months


  To qualify , a company must show a minimum turnover of Rs 15 crore and should
  have conducted an exam involving at least 500,000 candidates


*  Bids are yet to be invited for the current round of recruitment



*  Railway Board has previously collaborated with Tata Consultancy Services , which has
   set up 135,000 computing nodes in exam centres across India and claim to have
   assessed a total of 100 MILLION candidates so far , including 9.2 million assessments
   during the railway’s 2016 drive
