Leveraging AI for imparting Skills Virtually

Dr. Dharmendra Pradhan,

{ Honorable Minister for Education / d.pradhan@sansad.nic.in }

 Government of India, New Delhi.

Subject:   Proposal for Establishing a National Skills University for Affordable and Accessible Education

Respected Sir,

I hope this letter finds you in the best of health and spirits. With great respect for your vision of empowering the youth of India, I wish to draw your attention to a transformative idea that aligns with your efforts to make education more inclusive and skill-focused.

India is home to millions of young individuals who aspire to higher education but are constrained by the financial burden of attending physical universities. To address this challenge and prepare our workforce for the demands of the 21st century, I propose the establishment of a National Skills University (NSU), a fully virtual institution leveraging cutting-edge technologies to deliver affordable, accessible, and industry-relevant education.

Key Features of the National Skills University

1.     Virtual Platform with AR/VR Integration:

o    The NSU will deliver courses through immersive technologies such as Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR), ensuring experiential learning at scale.

o    Affordable AR/VR headsets (priced around Rs. 5,000) can be developed in collaboration with Indian tech companies and subsidized for registered students.

2.     Industry-Aligned Curriculum:

o    The university will offer modular courses aligned with industry needs, with real-time updates based on a “Who Wants What Skill” matrix, ensuring relevance and employability.

o    Collaboration with trade associations, multinational corporations, and local industries to co-create content and provide internships.

3.     Certification and Recognition:

o    Online certification exams will be conducted, ensuring accessibility for students in remote regions.

o    These certifications can be integrated into the Government’s Skill India initiative for wider recognition.

4.     Affordability and Accessibility:

o    Free internet access for registered users through partnerships with telecom providers.

o    Scholarships and financial aid for economically disadvantaged students.

5.     Global Partnerships:

o    Collaboration with global online education platforms like Khan Academy, Coursera, and edX for content and technology sharing.

6.     Job-Ready Workforce:

o    Courses will emphasize emerging technologies like AI, blockchain, renewable energy, and advanced manufacturing to prepare students for the future of work.

Implementation Steps

1.     Legislative Support:

o    A bill can be introduced to establish the NSU as a statutory body under the Ministry of Education.

2.     Public-Private Partnerships (PPP):

o    Engaging private sector leaders to contribute to infrastructure, content creation, and technology.

3.     Pilot Programs:

o    Launching pilot programs in key sectors like IT, healthcare, and logistics to showcase the potential of virtual learning platforms.

Global Inspiration and Relevance

Recently, Dr. Song’s AI-driven VR education platform demonstrated the transformative potential of immersive technologies. Such innovations reaffirm the feasibility of the NSU model. By adopting and localizing similar approaches, India can leapfrog traditional education barriers and establish itself as a global leader in virtual education.

Conclusion

The establishment of a National Skills University can be a monumental step in achieving our Honorable Prime Minister’s vision of "Digital India" and a "Skilled India." It will not only democratize education but also equip our youth with skills that are globally competitive and locally relevant.

I humbly request your support in championing this initiative. I am more than willing to provide detailed proposals or participate in discussions to realize this vision.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Yours sincerely,

Just replace BAD with GOOD content

Context :

Greece Developing App to Curb Excessive Internet Use by Young People

Extract :

In an effort to curb excessive internet use among young people, Greece announced plans to launch a government-operated app designed to enhance parental oversight of mobile devices in 2025.

Why It Matters

The app comes after a recent survey conducted by KMOP, a prominent Greek research organization, highlighted the urgency of such measures. { info.education-hub@kmop.org }

The study revealed that 76.6 percent of children aged 9-12 regularly access the internet via personal devices with 58.6 percent engaging with social media daily. Alarmingly, 22.8 percent of these young users have encountered inappropriate content, yet many remain unaware of basic safety features like blocking or reporting harmful interactions.

What To Know

Dimitris Papastergiou, Greece's minister of digital governance, said the Kids Wallet app, due to launch in March, aims to safeguard children under the age of 15 from the risks of excessive and inappropriate internet use.

The app will operate via a widely adopted government services platform and integrate seamlessly with an existing smartphone app used by adults to carry digital identification documents.

Papastergiou said the app's dual functionality will integrate advanced algorithms to monitor usage and apply strict authentication processes.

According to Papastergiou, the app will also help hold social media platforms more accountable for enforcing age controls.

These online child protection measures would go further than regulations already in place in several European countries by introducing more direct government involvement.

What People Are Saying

Papastergiou told reporters: "It's a big change. The Kids Wallet application will do two main things: It will make parental control much easier, and it will be our official national tool for verifying the age of users."

Meanwhile, in the U.S. parenting coach Liat Hughes Joshi previously told Newsweek that internet access could be beneficial for young people when used properly.

She said: "We need to be having more nuanced conversations, not just about quantity of tech use but quality. Educational activities such as learning to code or picking up a foreign language for example, or playing chess online. Carefully used, the internet can also be a place to find emotional support and advice if they're experiencing a difficult situation, such as being bullied."

Former teacher Mike Bonitatibus previously told Newsweek about the concerns he saw between children raised with unfiltered internet access from birth and those whose screen time was carefully moderated by their parents.

"In my observation, children who grow up with moderated internet access tend to develop stronger social skills, better discipline, and the ability to remain focused on tasks. In contrast, those raised with unrestricted access to devices often find social interactions difficult and may exhibit more defiance and disrespect. It was concerning to see previously respectful students conforming to a culture of disengagement and disrespect toward authority figures," Bonitatibus said.

What Happens Next

Papastergiou said the government was hoping to have the children's app pre-installed on smartphones sold in Greece by the end of 2025.

My  Take :

I cannot escape the feeling that the Kids Wallet app ( proposed by Greek Government ) , may not achieve the objective of “ weaning “ the children away from excessive visits to Social Media such as Instagram – Tik Tok – Twitter – Facebook etc

Reason ?

My guess is that children are influenced as follows :

Ø  Govt ( Fear of Law ) …………………………. 5 %

Ø  Parental Admonition ………………………….25 %

Ø  Peer Pressure …………………………………… 70 %

Given this scenario , if a child finds that her friends / classmates are using their Mobiles to “ Get Ahead “ of the rest of the pack, by asking ( in GREEK language or 25 other global languages ) , “ Syllabus Related Questions “ on www.My-Teacher.in , then she is likely to spend less time on the BAD media and spend more time on APPROPRIATE media

Dear Parents – Principals – Teachers :

Human brain hates “ Thought Vacuum “ . Like air rushing in to fill up vacuum, BAD online content will rush into the brains of children “ enslaving / addicting “ them , unless it is replaced by GOOD content which helps them acquire skills / knowledge that “ liberates “ .

NCTE organises 2-day national workshop for teacher education, aimed at achieving the vision of NEP 2020  ..  ET .. 15 Sept 2024

Extract :

NPST, as envisioned in Para 5.20 of NEP 2020, aims to enhance the professional development of teachers by providing clear expectations and guidelines for competency-wise improvement.

Kesang Y. Sherpa IRS, Member Secretary NCTE [ helpdesk@ncte-india.org ]

shared the roadmap of the workshop clarifying the goals and objectives of the workshop. She also emphasized that the assessment of the performance of teachers will be done through dedicated tools, peer reviews, etc. developed by NCTE.

Dear Teachers :

I have no idea as to the type of  “ dedicated tools “ that Smt Kesang Sherpa has in mind for assessing your performance

Nor do you

But it would be wise for you not to wait till such time these tools get designed and handed to your Principals

Without waiting , hundreds of teachers around the country have started impressing their Principals by marked improvement in the “ marks / score “ obtained by their students ( a true measure of their own COMPETANCY )

They are just :

Ø  Visiting www.My-Teacher.in

Ø  Selecting >  I am a Teacher

Ø  Generate Test

-       and improving their NPST [ National Professional Standard for Teachers ]

By administering such impromptu / surprise exams ( without any notice ), they are telling their students :

Ø  When you are ready to face an exam , on ANY DAY of the year – and without prior notice ,  I will know that you have listened to my teachings and learned well

Ø  You shall not mug-up and vomit what you have “ stored “ in your brain ( like stored in a hard disk )

Ø  You must cultivate / train your mind to be INQUISITIVE and ask “ Questions Beyond Syllabus

Dear Teachers :

How about improving your own “ Subject Knowledge “ by taking some Mock Tests yourself ?

State Unlikely to introduce 2 Board Exams for 10 & 12 ………… TOI ……….. 29 Sept 2024

Extract :

The Maharashtra govt is unlikely to introduce two board exams for classes 10 and 12 from academic year 2025-26, despite emphasis on dual board exams in the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) released in August last year. The state is currently working on formulating its own curriculum framework based on the NCF-SE.

During a recent meeting with school education minister Deepak Kesarkar, education officials and school heads highlighted the challenges faced in conducting even a single board exam annually, with over 30 lakh students appearing for the
Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) exams every year.

Suggestions were made to conduct exams after each semester, with students failing the first board exam — consisting of multiple-choice questions — being required to reappear and pass to be eligible for the second board exam.

"The best of the two passed marks would be considered." Board officials explained the complexity of the annual board exam process, including the assessment of answer booklets and revaluation, with preparations starting as early as July, when private candidates begin registering.

School heads pointed out that the teaching hours for classes 1-9 and 11 are reduced during the exam period as schools are converted into examination centres.

"If two board exams are conducted, students from classes other than 10th and 12th will suffer further loss of learning," said a principal who attended the meeting.

They suggested that if dual board exams are to be held, students should be allotted their own schools, as currently, state board and CBSE students travel to other schools to write their exams. The board also conducts practical and supplementary exams.

During the Covid-19 pandemic year of 2021-22, CBSE and CISCE had two board exams. However, these boards have not yet decided on switching to dual exams in the next academic year due to the time-consuming process of conducting a single board exam.

Education experts believe that conducting two board exams may not be feasible in the current scenario, given the logistical challenges and the impact on teaching hours for other classes.

Dear Shri Deepak Kesarkarji :

{  Minister of Education /  kesarkardeepak@yahoo.com  /  94220,96887 }

Conducting Board Exams for 10th and 12th Standards ( for 30 lakh students ) is , by no means an easy task , if these exams are conducted using the current / traditional method which consists of :

Ø  Setting Exam Paper at one location ( Mumbai ? ) by a team of Exam Paper Setters

Ø  Printing the Exam papers ( 30 lakh paper copies ) – also at one location ( Nashik ? )

Ø  Then manually ( person carrying exam papers in train / bus /  car ) to thousands of exam centres

Ø  Securely “ Safe Keeping “ printed papers in rooms at Exam Centre ( to prevent paper leak )

Ø  Once examinees have settled in Exam Halls , distributing the papers

But , conducting these exams ( even EVERY MONTH ) is a VERY EASY job , if you follow the AI-based method detailed at :

Ø  NEET Nirvana

Dear Shri Kesarkarji ,

For satisfying yourself , just spare five minutes to “ generate “ a 10th Standard Exam Paper , by typing on your mobile > https://www.my-teacher.in/test-basic-details-form { It does NOT require any login and it is FREE }
