A Salary-cut is better than a Job-cut !

A survey by the Internal Affairs Ministry of Japan revealed following for year 2009 [ Source : DNA / Oct. 16, 2010 ] :

Ø  Average income of single women [ under 30 ]………..$ 2680

Ø  Average income of single men     [ under 30 ]…………$ 2640

Ø  Increase in women’s income [ over 5 years   ]……(+) 11.4 %

Ø  Decrease in men’s income    [ over 5 years   ]……( - ) 7.0 %

In most other countries, women are least concerned about catching up or overtaking their male counterparts when it comes to salary.

They are far more concerned about getting a job in the first place !

What about men in these other countries ?

They would happily accept a 25% cut in their salaries to keep their jobs !

A Tale of Two Cities

Ø  Bangalore [ India ] /  Oct.2010

Google India announces that it will pay Rs.100,000 [ approx.$2500 ] by way of referral fees to anyone who recommends a software engineer for its India operation [ subject to employment offer from Google and joining ].

Ø  Mountain View [ Cal-USA ] /  Feb.2011

Google USA announces 6,000 job openings and receives 75,000+ job applications within one week. This, despite the fact that Google dropped to fourth rank, as America’s best workplaces [ FORTUNE magazine surveys ],after ranking # 1 in 2007 and 2008.

Google could have saved a lot of referral fees by listing knowledge of Hindi language as one of the eligibility criteria !

INDIA HIRES INMATES !

Times of India [ Feb.04,2011 ] reports that leading Indian Corporate like IDBI Bank, Vedanta Group, Sterlite Foundation, Agarwal Packers, Jindal Steel and Flex Shoes will conduct a recruitment drive in Tihar jail and pick 50 inmates to be employed in their business houses.

These inmates have received professional training during their term at the jail, says Sunil Gupta, law officer, Tihar jail.

It is an irony that these very same inmates would have never got
employment offer, had they not committed some crime and spent time !

If 42 million unemployed graduates who are registered with 934 State Employment Exchanges were to discover that the path to a job begins at Tihar jail, there could be riots to get admitted in Tihar !
