Where will the jobless go ?

According to a United Nation’s estimate, of the 800,000 persons illegally crossing international boarders annually, 70 % are women.

Possible reason ?

Of the 1.4 billion people living on less than $ 1 a day, 70 per cent are women and girls

May be for them, serving a jail-term for illegal immigration, in a foreign country is far better then starving in their own country !

Unemployment is creating pockets of extreme poverty around the world, with millions going to sleep without food.

How long before an unstoppable tsunami of jobless sweep over the boarders of affluent nations ?

Is there anyone who still believes that such inequity can be sustained forever ?

EQUAL WORK: UNEQUAL PAY

Times of India [ 14 March, 2011 ] cites Global Gender Gap Report 2010 by World Economic Forum, to report as follows :

·      There is no country on earth where women get equal pay as men for equal work

·      India ranks # 128 on gender parity, with USA ranking at#6

·      In USA, women earn only 77 cents per dollar earned by men

·      In India, where an estimated 60 % of all agricultural operations are handled exclusively by women, their hourly wages range from 50 % to 70 % of male wage rates

·      In corporate India, the average annual income of a woman is $ 1,185, as against $ 3,698 for a man [ in 60 of the 100 best employers ]

·      To avoid paying “ Statutory Minimum Wages “, Government of India employs thousands of women on “ honorarium “in its own welfare schemes

So much for the Gender Equality in 21st Century !

BECOME SELF-EMPLOYED

If you are unemployed, become self-employed.

And earn Rs.15,000 /- per month.

If you are already employed, make that your extra income.

To earn this money, all you need is a computer and a printer [which can be hired cheaply].

Start printing and selling [for Rs.50/- each], attached forms to your neighborhood jobseekers. There are thousands of them.

Paste following notices all over your neighborhood:

“We deliver FREE job-alerts on your mobile every day.
Phone Mr / Ms XYZ ( your name ) on (Mobile No)………………..”

Mobiles can reduce poverty, says UN study.

UNCTAD Information Economy Report says :

“ Poor people often don’t have access to vital information on issues such as current market prices, weather reports and new opportunities for earning income.

The penetration rate of mobile phones is increasing as the technology is affordable for the poor to purchase and use “.

This is borne out by the fact that getting Job Alerts on Mobiles [ JAM ] and applying against those jobs directly from mobiles, is fast catching-up in India.

In India, mobile penetration reached 60 % [ 752 million ], in Dec 2010 and cheapest handsets dropped to $ 20 /-.

Now compare this with internet penetration of just 1 %

Amongst millions of Indian jobseekers, Job Alert on Mobile [ JAM ] –a mobile application developed by HP Labs India - is becoming a favorite pass-time !
