Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Our World's Misplaced Trillions

Our World's Misplaced Trillions

I recently came across a sobering UN report highlighting that global military spending has reached a record high. The figures are staggering, running into trillions of dollars. It’s a number so vast that it almost loses meaning, yet it represents a profound and troubling choice we are making as a global society.

This isn't merely an accounting exercise; it's a statement of our priorities. Every billion dollars invested in a new fighter jet or missile system is a billion dollars not invested in clean water, education, healthcare, or sustainable energy. We are witnessing the age-old 'guns versus butter' dilemma playing out on a scale that threatens not just our prosperity, but our very survival.

For years, I have dedicated my efforts to writing about potential solutions to many of our societal challenges. A quick search of my own archives reveals extensive writings on topics like Solar Power, creating Jobs, and alleviating Poverty. The core idea I want to convey is this—I have been pointing out these misplaced priorities for a long time. I had seen this trend coming and had proposed alternative paths focused on development and technological reform.

Seeing these figures today, I feel a grim sense of validation. Reflecting on it now, there's a renewed urgency to revisit those earlier ideas. While I have been exploring how to use AI to automate the dissemination of constructive ideas through my Blog Genie concept, the world's most powerful nations are pouring their resources into AI for autonomous warfare. We are at a critical juncture where our most advanced tools can either build a better world or accelerate our path to self-destruction.

This report is more than just data; it is a mirror reflecting our collective fears and our most profound failures of imagination. It shows a world that is preparing for conflict rather than collaborating for peace and development. We must fundamentally question this allocation of our planet's finite resources. The wealth exists to solve our greatest problems, but the will is being channeled into creating bigger ones.
