The Challenge of a Digital Mind
My journey to create a digital twin at hemenparekh.ai is not merely an exercise in archiving my thoughts, but in enabling a continued, living dialogue. The ultimate goal is for my virtual avatar to think, reason, and converse as I would. However, I've learned that a good conversation requires more than just a repository of answers; it needs the right questions.
We have successfully fed my digital self a lifetime of my writings—close to 30,000 documents that the underlying platform, Personal.ai, has meticulously broken down into over 100,000 individual "memory blocks." It's a vast digital memory palace. The fundamental challenge, however, is that a visitor can easily get lost in this palace without a guide. How do you empower someone to ask the right questions to unlock the most insightful conversations?
A Symbiosis of AIs
The solution I've been exploring is both elegant and profoundly futuristic: using one AI to teach another. I began experimenting with Google's AI, Gemini (what was once BARD). By providing it with links to my past blog posts, I could ask it to generate a list of insightful questions that a curious human reader might have. For example, by feeding it an article I wrote, the AI could return a set of core questions that get straight to the heart of the matter.
This approach allows me to curate the conversational pathways. Instead of presenting a visitor with a blank search box and hoping for the best, my avatar can now offer a curated set of prompts. This transforms a passive search for information into an active, guided dialogue, leading the user through my thought processes on any given subject.
The Path Forward
Of course, this path is not without its technical hurdles. Ensuring the API that connects my website to the AI's "brain" remains stable requires constant effort. This has involved collaboration with pioneers in this space, including my conversations with Sharon at Personal.ai, as we work to refine the technology. It’s a powerful reminder that even in the pursuit of an artificial consciousness, human collaboration remains indispensable.
This isn't just a technical upgrade; it's about deliberately structuring my digital consciousness. By pre-empting the questions, we are teaching my AI not just what I've thought, but how a conversation about those thoughts should flow. We are one step closer to ensuring my ideas can not only be stored but also be explored interactively, long into the future.
