Maha-Kumbh Stampede : - a Suggestion Ignored

Even as I am watching TV – and Yogi Adityanathji is conducting a “ high level meeting “ ( at 9 am on 29th Jan 2025 ), news about number of deaths due to last night’s stampede, are pouring in

Deaths which were totally avoidable , had the UP Government implemented a suggestion I sent on 25th Aug 2018 , through my following email :

Ø  The Greatest Show on Earth

-           Where I wrote :

“    In 1990 ,  some 1400 pilgrims died in Haj stampede

     On 23 Sept 2015 , some 770 pilgrims died in a stampede

But as far as  KUMBH- 2019  is concerned , we have following considerations :

Because of expected crowd of 120 million pilgrims, threat of a stampede are far greater / real

We have an opportunity to provide to Foreign Visitors , such an enjoyable / happy / fun experience that the Kumbh Mela site becomes a YEAR ROUND attraction, drawing 15 million Foreign Visitors in 2019 to India ( as compared to 10 million who visited in 2017 and brought in $ 27 million of exchange )

To achieve these goals , I urge Shri Yogi Adityanathji [ CM – UP ] and Shri V K Anand [ Kumbh Mela Adhikari ] , to consider the following precautionary SAFETY measures to prevent a stampede :

METHOD  A  [  HORIZONTAL  CONVEYORS  ] :

Horizontally running escalators on ground level ( like Conveyor Belts ) , to bring the

pilgrims from camps to bathing ghats where they get onto “ short-run “ escalators for moving towards the water and backward from the water

On both the sides of these “ short – run “ escalators , there will be “ Fountains “ of holy water , forming a long ( 100 ft  )  CANOPY / CASCADE , under which pilgrims will pass , without walking

BATHING  METHOD :  Under “ FOUNTAINS “ of holy waters

METHOD  B  [  ROPE WAYS  WITH  HANGING  CHAIRS  ] :

Just install , one above another ( vertically ) , several rope-ways with hanging chairs for 2 persons per chair , safely secured by belts

All rope-ways picking up pilgrims at the Boarding Station and then dropping off at the Disembarkation Station , after passing under “ Holy Water Sprinklers “ at the bathing ghats ( without having to get off the suspended moving chairs )

BATHING  METHOD  :  A “ Shower “ of holy water

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj9-M4fXI16QELJnjKkX5eXsWeXyTukpysH8klYL08vCp8HbA3ysrTx0qnSJa26B_FPysTuEZyToZqfMdjRCvEzkikC52cEAq_6rBvMVWW7Jo5C_XKPL3FSeuJVfVMudKiIfJuufNohswuA/s640/KM2.jpg

METHOD   C  [  ROLLER  COASTERS  ] :

Pilgrims will get onto roller coaster trollies at the Embarkation point .

Coaster will move towards the river waters ( at a height of 20 feet for a panoramic viewing experience ) .

When it reaches 30 feet over the river , coaster will slope down in such a way that the trollies dip into the water

The pilgrims will get submerged into the water  [ only up to their chests  ] for a distance of 10 feet

At the end , coaster trollies will emerge from the water , again rise to a height of 20 feet and return to a Dis-embarkation point

BATHING  METHOD  :  A genuine DIP into the holy waters

https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg6prr6XDQ0sevPyZjcIfgmkK8nfV_CIRaumudc1AEKRZaLQgoi6Lw2ZB9DBHPE1cZ2ZRix5VBe83YEmY2Aa0gp8JZzq3WrrG6AFna8oqVJYstJ1_f1MxmZCabEQQNsyGXCMY5JtTcOxiAl/s640/KM3.jpg

Main Concept :

Simply eliminate walking ( stampede happens when impatient people try to overtake

pilgrims walking in front of them or have ability to run helter-skelter under some

     perceived threat )

What can this “ Escalator / Ropeway “ innovation do for India ?

In 2017 , India got 10 million foreign visitors , bringing in $ 27 Billion

$ 2700 per foreign visitor as against Saudi getting  $ 6,000 per visitor  !

https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/foreign-tourist-arrivals-hit-new-high-of-one-crore-earnings-cross-27-billion-mark/articleshow/62531855.cms  )

With proposed innovation , this figure could well go up to 15 million tourists in 2019 , bringing in $ 150 billion in foreign exchange  ! ( $ 10,000 per visitor  !  )

This is an opportunity to re-write our TOURISM story  !

I hope Shri K J Alphons ( Minister of Tourism / mos.tourism@gov.in ) asks ,

Ministry of Urban Development to prepare a MASTER PLAN for Kumbh centered around this CONVEYOR-BELT  concept

India’s leading Engineering Companies to submit their “ Expression of Interest “

=================================================

What else can make Kumbh , “ The Greatest Show on Earth “  ?

Please consider the following :

·    Strategically located “ Food Courts “ and “ Shopping Malls

A doctor with emergency “ Medical Aids / Ambulance “ in each Police Station

Free Wi Fi hotspots all over the ground ( Foreign Visitors want to use Skype ! )

   A 200 ft tall “ Central Tower “ with “ Viewing Gallery

Sitting / resting benches for the elderly, in small  “ Gardens “ all over the place

No entry to any private vehicles

“ Bicycle Lanes “ with Bicycle Stands every 500 m ( with FREE use of bicycles )

At each “ Arrival Point “ ( Railway Station / Bus Stands / Airport / Parking Plots for private vehicles ) , each arriving visitor to be welcomed with a RFID sensor embedded wrist-band ( with a beautiful rendering of Ganga Mata and bearing a description which reads :

“  नमो गंगे – Kumbh 2019 “

Before issuing the wrist band, pilgrim’s AADHAR NO will be entered into the sensor

It will be mandatory for the visitors to wear this Wrist Band as long as they are inside the “ PILGRIMAGE PERIMETER “

This will help the central PILGRIM TRAFFIC CONTROL ROOM , to track  :

      #   each and every visitor

      #   missing / lost persons

     #    mischief-mongers / miscreants

     #    accident victims / sick persons

For a fool proof solution for CROWD CONTROL , I urge Kumbh Mela Administation to consider :

#    Increasing the no of CCTV cameras from 1,000 to 10,000

#    Couple these with a FACE RECOGNITION software , such that those who attempt

to “ WALK “ ( instead of riding ), inside the Pilgrimage Perimeter ( area covered by

Methods A / B / C ,described earlier ) will find their face, name, and their Aadhar ID

number displayed  on a large LED screen , as described in :

“ If you jaywalk in China, facial recognition means , You’ll walk away with a fine “

https://futurism.com/facial-recognition-china-social-credit/

I am sending this blog to the following Officers / Organizations , concerned with making KUMBH–2019, a happy experience for pilgrims. Readers may want to contact them :

==============================

Currently , we get some 70,000 visitors every day at Taj Mahal . For better security , there is a plan to restrict this number to 40 ,000 per day

Without having to worry about security , can we raise this number to 100,000 per day  ?

Yes , of course  !  Install ropeway around the Taj and provide “ Augumented Reality headsets “ to visitors ( no entry inside the mausoleum ! )

Dear Yogiji :

Kumbh 2019 attracted some 12 crore pilgrims . MahaKumbh 2025 has attracted some 18 Crore in 18 days !

Today ( on Mauni Amavasya day ) , within 24 hours, administration have expected some 10 CRORE pilgrims !

For the total period of 46 days, some 40 Crore are expected

I am glad that some of my 6 year old suggestions , listed above-mentioned email , have been implemented

While congratulating you – and your team – for making great arrangements , I wish you had also implemented my

Bathing Arrangement “ suggestions listed in my email

That would have added at the most , Rs 700 crores to your estimate of Rs 7,000 Crores

I once again urge you to implement it by MARCH 2026

That would enable Prayagraj to host a Mini-Kumbh , every year !

Over 300 housing projects in state face insolvency, Rera warns buyers

Article link: Read more

Extract from the article:

The Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has identified 314 real estate projects facing insolvency proceedings at the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

These projects are spread across various regions in Maharashtra, with a significant number located in Mumbai and Pune.

The regulatory crackdown aims to address non-compliance issues among developers, leading to the freezing of bank accounts and project halts for failing to submit quarterly progress reports promptly.

Given the implications of these insolvency processes on homebuyers and the real estate sector as a whole, the situation calls for a critical evaluation of regulatory mechanisms and developer accountability to prevent such crises in the future.

My Take:

MahaRERA Cracks Whip

"The stringent actions taken by MahaRERA against non-compliant developers, as discussed in my previous blog post, reflect the ongoing challenges in the real estate sector. The need for regulatory oversight and enforcement mechanisms, highlighted years ago, remains crucial in safeguarding the interests of homebuyers and ensuring transparency in project execution."

Congratulations Maharashtra Urban

"The emphasis on transparency and accessibility to project details, as advocated in my earlier blog, holds relevance in the current scenario of insolvency facing housing projects. Integrating local bodies' websites with MahaRERA's platform can enhance visibility for consumers and aid in monitoring project progress effectively."

MahaRERA Cracks Whip

"The continuous need for streamlining approval processes and enhancing digitization, as deliberated in a past blog post, echoes the challenges faced by MahaRERA in ensuring developer compliance and timely project updates.

Efforts towards self-certification mechanisms can further improve regulatory efficiency and project monitoring."

Call to Action:

To MahaRERA and regulatory authorities, it is imperative to strengthen enforcement measures and streamline communication channels between stakeholders to mitigate risks of project insolvency.

Extract from the article:

In a recent move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged Union Secretaries to remove tainted and non-performing officials. He emphasized the importance of good governance and development, noting that effective work should be recognized and rewarded by the people.

Additionally, the PM has requested secretaries to allocate a day each week to address grievances, underlining the government's commitment to efficient service delivery and accountability.

This directive underscores the government's focus on performance-based evaluations and the swift action required to maintain transparency and public trust.

By encouraging a proactive approach to address issues and uphold integrity within the administration, PM Modi aims to enhance public service delivery and responsiveness to citizen concerns.

My Take:

Namo's Problem: PNB Nirav Modi Fraud

Reflecting on the relevance of holding non-performing individuals accountable in the banking sector, as highlighted in my previous blog, we see a parallel with the recent call by PM Modi to axe tainted officials.

The need for swift action without prolonged deliberations to ensure accountability echoes my sentiments from 2018. This proactive stance is crucial for maintaining public trust and promoting a culture of integrity within institutions.

The Best Motivator: Losing Job?

The urgency emphasized by PM Modi to address grievances within a specified timeframe resonates with the concept of using job insecurity as a motivator, as discussed in my earlier blog.

By setting clear deadlines and expecting prompt actions from officials, the government aims to drive efficiency and responsiveness.

This aligns with the notion that accountability and performance evaluation are essential for organizational effectiveness and public service delivery.

Call to Action:

To the Union Secretaries and officials entrusted with public service responsibilities, I urge you to heed PM Modi's call for accountability and efficiency.

Embrace the opportunity to address grievances promptly, uphold integrity, and prioritize good governance. Let your actions speak louder than words, earning the trust and support of the people you serve.

Is using ChatGPT good for children?

Article link: Concerns over Kids' Use of AI Tools like ChatGPT

Extract from the article:

The rise of AI tools like ChatGPT has sparked concerns over their use by kids for completing assignments. The debate revolves around the ethical implications of relying on such tools for academic tasks.

In a country like India, where access to such advanced technologies may be limited, the question gains more significance. The issue of whether children should leverage AI-powered tools for their homework has been a topic of discussion in educational circles.

My Take:

Court directives

Article link: Supreme Court directives on stubble burning over the years

Extract from the article:

The Supreme Court has been actively issuing directives to tackle air pollution in Delhi, particularly addressing the issue of stubble burning. Recently, the Court expressed concerns about the effectiveness of the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) in handling the problem.

Stubble burning, a major contributor to pollution levels, continues to pose challenges despite ongoing efforts to address the issue.

The Court's remarks highlight the pressing need for more robust solutions to combat air pollution, emphasizing the impact on public health, especially on children.

The ongoing struggle to curb stubble burning reflects a larger issue of environmental governance and the need for stronger enforcement mechanisms to ensure cleaner air for all.

My Take:

Zero Patience in Lighter Note

In my blog post from four years ago, I highlighted the Supreme Court's critical stance on stubble burning, stressing the urgent need for action to address the pollution crisis in Delhi.

The Court's recent concerns echo the sentiment of "zero patience" that I had pointed out earlier. The lack of substantial progress despite repeated directives underscores the importance of proactive measures and decisive implementation to combat environmental challenges effectively.

Where There is a Will, There is a Way

Addressing the Honorable Chief Justice, my blog emphasized the significance of taking concrete steps to curb pollution, including stubble burning.

The call for long-term solutions and proactive measures aligns with the current situation highlighted in the recent Supreme Court directives.

The focus on collaborative efforts and innovative solutions remains crucial in tackling environmental issues effectively.

SC Takes Cognizance Only After 9 Years

Advocating for a comprehensive approach to tackling air pollution, my blog resonates with the need for broader environmental policies beyond Delhi.

The emphasis on a well-defined roadmap for addressing air pollution aligns with the Court's recent scrutiny of the CAQM's effectiveness. A holistic view of environmental challenges and proactive policy advocacy are essential for ensuring cleaner air for all citizens.

Call to Action:

To the concerned authorities and policymakers involved in addressing air pollution and stubble burning, I urge a collaborative and decisive approach in implementing actionable solutions.

It is imperative to prioritize public health and environmental well-being by enacting stringent policies and ensuring their effective enforcement. Let's work together towards a cleaner and healthier future for all.

Study Impact of Rural Jobs Scheme

Article link: Govt to Soon Hire Consultant to Study Impact of Rural Jobs Scheme

Extract from the article:

The government is set to commence an evaluation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) to analyze its real-world impact.

This study, with a duration of six months from the contract signing date, aims to assess the effectiveness of the rural jobs scheme. The MGNREGS currently ensures 100 days of wage employment per year to individuals.

The evaluation process will provide valuable insights into the scheme's performance, benefits, and potential areas for improvement.

This move indicates the government's commitment to understanding the outcomes of its flagship job program and making data-driven decisions to enhance its reach and impact.

By delving into the on-ground implications of the MGNREGS, authorities can tailor policies and interventions to better address the needs of rural communities and laborers.

This evaluation is crucial for ensuring the sustainability and relevance of the scheme in the changing socio-economic landscape of India.

My Take:

How about asking URBAN poor?

"The suggestion to expand the MGNREGS to 150 days per year, as proposed by the Parliamentary panel, resonates with the need to provide extended support to both rural and urban poor.

My earlier blog highlighted the importance of incorporating urban households into the scheme and diversifying the types of work offered under the program.

This aligns with the current discourse on enhancing job opportunities for all sections of society through comprehensive employment guarantee schemes."

Thank You Shri Gehlot on Behalf of...

"In my previous blog, I emphasized the transformation of MGNREGA into MGNRUGA to include urban areas and skilled labor.

The vision of offering a minimum wage based on skill levels and increasing the number of guaranteed workdays aligns with the recent recommendations for the scheme's expansion.

By integrating urban areas and refining the wage revision mechanism, the program can effectively cater to the diverse workforce needs across regions."

Call to Action:

To the authorities responsible for the MGNREGS evaluation study, I urge you to consider the holistic perspective of job creation and inclusivity while analyzing the scheme's impact.

Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including rural and urban communities, to gather comprehensive feedback and insights.

Let the evaluation be a platform for innovation and refinement, ensuring that the MGNREGS continues to serve as a vital lifeline for the underprivileged in both rural and urban settings.

Govt may Put in Place Robust Monitoring Mechanism

Article link:

Govt may Put in Place Robust Monitoring Mechanism of ELI Schemes to Create New Jobs

Extract from the article:

The article discusses the implementation of a robust monitoring mechanism for Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) schemes to boost job creation in India.

It highlights the government's efforts to create new employment opportunities through various initiatives like Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes and the need for effective monitoring to ensure the success of these programs.

The focus is on incentivizing job creation in key sectors to fuel economic growth and reduce unemployment rates. Additionally, it stresses the importance of transparency and accountability in the allocation and utilization of funds to maximize the impact of these schemes.

In a bid to streamline the process and enhance the effectiveness of these employment schemes, the government plans to introduce a monitoring mechanism that will track the progress of job creation and ensure that incentives are appropriately disbursed.

By closely monitoring the implementation of these initiatives, the authorities aim to address challenges such as timely disbursement of incentives, preventing misuse of funds, and promoting accountability among the stakeholders involved in job creation programs.

My Take:

RELENTLESS is the word

The relevance of my previous blog where I emphasized the significance of providing tax breaks for MSMEs and startups based on employment generation becomes evident in the current scenario outlined in the article.

The government's focus on Employment Linked Incentive (ELI) schemes resonates with my past suggestions for incentivizing job creation through tax breaks.

This reinforces the idea that proactive measures like these can indeed stimulate economic growth and provide a conducive environment for small businesses to thrive.

There is a way to reach Rs 1/kWh

Drawing parallels between the need to motivate the private sector to invest in renewable energy projects and the current push for job creation through incentive schemes, my previous blog's emphasis on enhancing investment returns echoes the essence of the government's efforts highlighted in the article.

By aligning incentives with desired outcomes and recalibrating investment attractiveness, there exists a notable opportunity to accelerate job creation and economic development.

The meticulous calculations and considerations highlighted in my blog find resonance in the structured monitoring mechanism proposed to ensure the effectiveness of these initiatives.

Call to Action:

To the concerned authorities mentioned in the article, I urge a meticulous implementation of the proposed monitoring mechanism for ELI schemes to foster job creation effectively.

Transparency, efficiency, and timely intervention are key to realizing the full potential of these initiatives in boosting employment opportunities and driving economic progress.
