Global Housing Construction Technology Challenge

More than 2 years ago , the Union Housing Ministry threw this challenge to the Construction Industry, from all over the world, as reported in :

24  FEBRUARY  2018    Last Updated at 4:48 PM | SOURCE: PTI

Extract :
The Union housing ministry plans a "massive dissemination and outreach" programme for the Global Housing Construction Technology Challenge, it set to launch for building affordable and sustainable houses in the country, an official said.

The initiative aims to give a major push to construction of houses for the urban poor under the Centre's flagship Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

The Centre will invite companies from across the world to showcase their construction techniques under the 'Global Housing Construction Technology Challenge', the official said, adding the technologies selected would be used for building houses under the PMAY(U) scheme.

The ministry targets to construct 1.2 crore houses under the scheme in a bid to provide houses to all urban poor by 2022. So far, nearly 40 lakh houses have been sanctioned under the scheme.

"We are going for massive dissemination and outreach programme. We will inform all countries, all associations and business bodies about the competition. We are in the process of finalising it. In the next two to three months, we will come up with a full-fledged programme," the official said.

He said the competitors would be required to demonstrate construction of houses at a minimum cost in minimum duration, keeping Indian requirements in mind.
==============================================================
After a lapse of  2 YEARS ,  there is no further news re :
Ø  Which construction  Companies – Business Bodies – Associations,  got selected
Ø  What “  construction techniques  got selected
Ø  Who gave “ demonstrations “ and where and at what cost / sq. ft
In the absence of such information, I would like to draw the attention of the Housing Ministry to the following news :

WATCH A 3D PRINTER SPIT OUT AN ENTIRE TWO-STORY HOUSE  /   17 July 2020

Extract :

Europe’s largest 3D printer just spat out an entire two-story tall home, an effort by Belgian sustainable construction company Kamp C. According to the company, it’s the biggest house printed in one piece, with a fixed printer, in history.

The 32-by-32 foot printer works in much the same way as its much smaller plastic-printing additive cousins — except that it uses a specially mixed concrete to build layer by layer.

Such a process has key advantages over conventional builds: It’s significantly faster, it’s far more judicious with material usage, and could even cut construction costs as a result.

The material’s compressive strength is three times greater than that of the conventional quick build brick,” Marijke Aerts, the project manager, told New Atlas.

“Besides the fibers in the concrete, the amount of wire-mesh reinforcement used is extremely limited. As a result of the printing technology used, formwork was redundant, saving an estimated sixty percent on material, time, and budget.”

The 980 square feet two-story home is still more of a demo than a livable structure, but it’s technically large enough and even features sustainable amenities, like solar panels and underfloor heating.

“Printing this building is mainly a statement,” Emiel Ascione, project manager at Kamp C, told Digital Trends

“It shows the construction industry the accessibility and potential of this technique.”

A day after the news announcing the GRAND CHALLENGE , I sent following e-mail to :

Ø  Reliance announced Jio TV+ at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2020 on Wednesday. Jio TV+ is a content aggregator that brings Over the top (OTT) platforms, TV channels, various apps, and services together to its Jio set-top-box users.

Ø  Jio mentioned that users can access various online apps from different genres from the Jio App Store on the set-top-box. “Through the Jio Developers program, any app developer can develop, launch, and monetize their apps. Developers who wish to partner with Jio can visit  https://developer.jio.com/ ,   Jio said.

Ø  For decades, TV content has been largely broadcast-dependent without any interactivity. With JioFiber, we have reimagined this experience and brought interactivity to TV. Through the Jio App Store on the Set Top Box, one can access internet applications across multiple genres such as entertainment, education, health, cooking, yoga, gaming, religion, and many more,” Akash said at Reliance’s AGM event.

========================================================

HOW WILL JIO TV+ DISRUPT SEVERAL INDUSTRIES AT THE SAME TIME ?

Ø  Persuade 200 million TV house-holders to switch over to Jio TV + ,

     by telling them :

“ You don’t need a desktop ( computer ) for your children to get ONLINE education. Of course , you can receive ONLINE lectures on an ordinary TV – which is ONE WAY traffic . Your child cannot ask questions and get instant replies from the lecturers, in an ordinary TV. But the special Set Top Box of our Jio TV+ is actually a COMPUTER

For 270 million students who are currently unable to attend physically OFFLINE classes and need a “ Computer + Broadband Access “ for online education, this is a very CHEAP – and quick – alternative

Ø  Jio TV + Set Top Box morphing into Bar-O-Meter

15 MONTHS ago , in my blog :

The Future of TV Viewing  ?  /  26 March 2019 :

I imagined following ,

===================================================

Imagine if each Set Top Box , were to morph into a BAR-O-Meter

That makes for 200 Million BAR-O-Meters  - as against 40,000 today !

And to complete the TV VIEWERSHIP MEASUREMENT revolution , stretch your imagination as follows :

#   All of this 200 Million “ Smart Set Top Boxes “ will be tiny Super-computers with
     terabytes of memory

#   All of these will be only “ Pre-paid “ versions enabling instant Online Payments from TV
     Screen / Remote

#   These Set Top Boxes will show ALL TV channels , all the time, eliminating need for ala-
carte pre-selection on Service provider’s web site / filling up channel selection forms of
MSO ( TV Cable operators )

[ Jio TV+ has implemented this forecast partially, as Content Aggregator ]

#   A viewer would be able to view ANY channel, any time

#   Smart Set Top Box will automatically / instantly, deduct money ( from pre-paid account
of the household ), based on “ Per Minute “ tariff for each channel . “ Credit Balance “
will flash in screen corner , every 10 minutes

#   Being a “ Super Smart Set Top Box “, internet will be integrated and web sites made
available on TV screen ( - why need a separate computer screen ? )

[  Jio TV+ has partially implemented this forecast  ]

#   Smart Set Top Box will also enable Video – Audio Streaming services like Netflix and
just announced Apple TV+  / Apple News Plus / Apple Arcade etc

[  Jio TV+ has implemented this forecast ]

#   Smart Set Top Box will enable job portals ( and of course, LinkedIn ) to deliver “
Suitable / Recommended Job Alerts “, and permit “ Apply Online “, using remote

#   Solely at his own discretion, a viewer would,

Ø  Allow advertisers to display “ Customized Advts “ on his TV screen , based on his TV Channel Viewing History

Ø  Rent his “ Net Surfing History “ to Social Media Sites for a “ Monthly Rental “ of Rs 1,000

[  TV sets that “ record and transmit “ , what you are watching ( like web site
cookies ) . All you did was to switch on the TV . Who said anything about

     #   Set Top Box will be synchronized with Alexa – Google Home – Siri – Cortana etc to
          accept voice commands

[  Jio TV+  has implemented this forecast ]

When 5G – Quantum Computing – DNA based Memory Storage – Li Fi – Face Recognition – AR – VR – AI - Blockchain etc mature , what I have envisaged above , is bound to happen

I am a great believer in :

If you can imagine something today, technology will turn it into reality tomorrow !

Questions are :

#   Will TRAI or some other regulating agency try to stop the advance of technology ?

#   Will some Start Up come forward to take up this challenge to disrupt the Advertising
      Industry ?

I am sure , Shri RaviShankar Prasadji would appreciate how this innovation could turn
every Indian home into a ,

Back Factory of  the  World........09 Sept 2015

Dead on Arrival ?

A “ Vehicle  Scrappage  Policy  “ is under works for past 4 years

Following is today’s news :

Extract :

Automobile companies are ready to offer up to 1% of vehicle prices as discount or incentive if customers scrap old vehicles and buy new ones

The govt is yet to take a final call on whether it would also give any incentive to encourage phasing out of old vehicles

Sources said, the government had sought a commitment from the automobile companies about their incentives to such buyers after it revived intense consultations on the proposed policy, which is likely to boost the sale of new vehicles

The proposal is being discussed among heavy industries , transport, and steel ministries.

A final view on this proposal , which is being considered for more than 4 years, is likely to be out soon

The government had originally considered both the options – regulatory and voluntary – regime to roll out the scheme

But a group of secretaries had favored a voluntary scrapping policy

Sources said now it’s completely up to the government to take a call on whether it would be voluntary or mandatory

=======================================================

Dear Government  Secretaries ,

For over 4 year, you have been “analyzing “ the following pros and cons of the proposed policy ,

Ø   Voluntary      Vs    Mandatory

Ø   Discounts      Vs    Incentives

Ø   New              Vs    Old

Ø   Petrol-Diesel  Vs    Electric Vehicles

Ø   Passenger      Vs    Freight

Ø   Public            Vs    Private

Ø   Owned           Vs    Leased / Taxies…… etc

Waiting for another few weeks will not make much of a difference time-wise but could make a lot of difference “ Why didn’t we think about this implication earlier ? “ -  wise
