How to leverage One Nation, One Election

A few days ago , Central Govt announced acceptance of Kovind report on ONOE [ One Nation , One Election ]

Of course , before it becomes a reality , there are many hurdles to cross – main being, convincing most political parties regarding many benefits of implementing . Since millions of words have been spoken and written by the experts on this subject { for and against }, I have only one “ Benefit “ left to voice, viz :

ONOE will vastly reduce the job of Manifesto writers

Instead of having to write ( over 5 years ) , 28 State Assembly Election manifestos and one Lok Sabha Election manifesto , now they will need to write only 2 manifestos ( one for Lok Sabha and one covering all the States )

And obviously a Political Party cannot promise Rs 1000 pm to “ Ladki Bahens “ in one state and Rs 1500 pm to “ Ladli Bahens “ in another State !

They cannot offer Rs 5000 pm scholarships to Dalit youth in one state but nothing in another state !

That would guarantee losing election in one state or other !

But then, our politicians are an “ Imaginative Tribe “. We can never predict what they might come up with !

However , along with ONOE , there should be another reform in the form of my following earlier suggestion :

Ø  Dear PM : Promise PIPPPA – not Freebies……………………….. 21  March 2024

Extract :

( 1 )  Preamble

( 2 )  Name of the Act / Prevention of Irresponsible Promises by Political Parties Act

( 3 )  Objective

( 4 )  Punishment for breaking Law

( 5 )   Examples of typical Freebies ( not comprehensive / Items to be added or deleted )

( 6 )  Process

( 7 )  Coverage

( 8 )  Accountability

Against each and every item ( in Poll Manifesto ), there must be mention of :

#  Amount of Money / Funds required ( One-time CAPITAL amount for Infra

Projects / Recurring Annual revenue expenditure for WELFARE measures for 5

    years )

#  How the Party proposes to “ finance “ ( eg: by raising existing taxes / levying

NEW taxes / Borrowing etc )

Dear Fellow Citizen :

This is your ( last ? )  chance to speak up and  write to all MPs  that you expect :

Ø  Simultaneous enacting of PIPPPA

Ø  Lok Sabha and Assembly Election manifestos to incorporate the last 4 columns shown below

Battle of Electric Vehicles

Battle of Electric Vehicles and the outlook for emission reduction: PEV vs PHEV  .. vs HEV

Extract:

The government of India has taken a significant step by deciding to phase out Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles and replace them with Electric Vehicles (EVs).

This strategic move aims to address the issue of emissions and pollution by promoting cleaner alternatives like EVs.

The article emphasizes that the transition to EVs is not just an environmental choice but also a cost-effective one, highlighting that EVs are not only eco-friendly but also more affordable compared to traditional vehicles.

The Indian government's commitment to reducing emissions through the adoption of EVs showcases a proactive approach towards sustainable transportation solutions. By encouraging the shift to EVs, the government is paving the way for a greener and more efficient future in the automotive sector.

This decision aligns with global trends towards cleaner energy sources and signifies a progressive stance on environmental conservation and technological advancements in the transportation industry.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My Take:

Welcome Elon Musk……………10/02/2017

The anticipation surrounding the launch of Tesla's all-electric Semi-Truck underscores the potential for India to revolutionize its commercial transportation sector.

As mentioned in my previous blog, replacing outdated petrol and diesel trucks with electric ones could not only significantly reduce pollution but also lead to substantial cost savings.

The advantages of electric vehicles, such as their energy efficiency and lower operational costs, further support the government's initiative to transition towards cleaner transportation options like EVs.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Where There is Will, There is Way…………….14/11/2017

While the long-term solution of transitioning to Electric Vehicles is vital for reducing emissions from conventional vehicles, addressing the environmental impact of charging these EVs is equally crucial.

By considering innovative solutions like the integration of renewable energy sources in charging infrastructure, we can mitigate the potential environmental consequences associated with increased power demand from EVs.

Collaborative efforts between government bodies, industry stakeholders, and research institutions can drive sustainable practices in EV adoption, ensuring a holistic approach towards emission reduction and energy conservation.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Call to Action:

To the Indian government and automotive industry stakeholders mentioned in the article, I urge you to continue prioritizing sustainable transportation initiatives and invest in innovative solutions for charging infrastructure that minimize the environmental footprint of Electric Vehicles.

Collaborative partnerships and forward-thinking strategies will be instrumental in achieving a greener and more efficient future for the automotive sector in India.
