Times of India ( 11 Aug )
carried a new report titled :
“ PUC norm : 26m vehicles in 5 cities
will face heat / No PUC, no insurance for vehicles : SC “
In a move aimed at reducing pollution caused by vehicular
emissions, the Supreme Court has directed the Centre to take steps to refuse
insurance cover to vehicles that do not have valid Pollution Under Control (
PUC ) certificate
The Court also ordered the ministry to ensure proper calibration of
instruments for checking emission levels, certification of authorised
manufacturers of emission testing machines and registration and authentication
of those operating the machines for checking emission of vehicles
But polluting the air is not the only nuisance value of India’s 200 million vehicles ( - and growing at 12 million every year ! )
Despite dozens of government agencies and
thousands of bureaucrats and lakhs of policemen trying to control / monitor /
regulate , vehicular transport , things are only going “ from bad to worse
“
!
Take a look at the following ( partial ) list :
* Petrol /
Diesel vehicles polluting atmosphere – causing early deaths
· Deterioration of roads due to increased traffic
· Road congestion leading to increased travel time / petrol wastage
· Increasing road accidents , maiming and killing people or damaging
property
· No space for footpaths for walking
· No space for bicycle tracks
· Unbearable noise pollution causing deafness
· No place for parking along public roads ( cause for corruption ? )
I urge the Supreme Court to take suo
moto notice of this blog and issue notices to the
Central and the State Governments , as
to why they cannot implement :
And come up with :
Surely , Shri Gadkariji would like to be one-up on the Supreme Court !
