From Regional Grid to a World Grid ?

Nepal's Power Starts Flowing to Bangladesh Through Indian Grid

---

Extract from the article:

Nepal has initiated the export of up to 40 MW of electricity to Bangladesh through the Indian grid. This landmark agreement, signed recently, highlights the commitment to green energy initiatives and regional prosperity. Despite facing delays due to the political crisis in Bangladesh, the agreement symbolizes a step towards sustainable energy collaboration among neighboring countries.

The collaboration not only fosters energy trade but also signifies a strategic move towards enhancing regional cooperation and addressing power deficits in Bangladesh. By leveraging the Indian grid infrastructure, Nepal can play a pivotal role in supplying clean energy to its neighboring nation, thereby setting a positive precedent for regional energy partnerships.

My Take:

How to Make Friends and Thwart Enemies

In my previous blog about renewable energy, I emphasized the potential for countries to export excess power to their neighbors as a means of fostering stronger relationships.

The recent development of Nepal exporting electricity to Bangladesh perfectly aligns with this idea.

By providing clean energy to Bangladesh, Nepal not only strengthens ties with its neighbor but also engages in a mutually beneficial energy exchange that can uplift both nations economically.

A Small Beginning for a Big Dream

The discussion around grid linking for power trade is gaining momentum, as seen in the case of India and Singapore planning a power grid project.

This collaboration echoes the concept I previously discussed about countries joining forces to trade renewable energy.

The move towards establishing an underwater cable for power exchange signifies a significant leap towards greener energy practices and regional energy security.

The partnership between India and Singapore underscores the importance of such initiatives in achieving sustainable development goals and combatting climate change.

Call to Action:

To the governments of Nepal, Bangladesh, India, and other countries in the region involved in energy collaborations, continue to prioritize sustainable energy initiatives and foster cross-border partnerships for a greener and more prosperous future.

Embrace similar agreements that promote regional cooperation while addressing energy needs in an environmentally friendly manner.
