Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

The AI Tsunami: OpenAI's $500 Billion Valuation and the Echoes of My Earlier Thoughts

The news that OpenAI, the parent company of ChatGPT, has reportedly reached a staggering $500 billion valuation, surpassing even giants like SpaceX and ByteDance, is a profound moment OpenAI hits $500 billion valuation after share sale to SoftBank, others, source says. It's not just a financial milestone; it's a powerful affirmation of Artificial Intelligence's transformative trajectory, one that I have been observing and writing about for many years.

The Pervasive AI Future I Envisioned

This explosive growth in AI's perceived value doesn't surprise me. In fact, it strikingly validates a vision I put forth years ago, long before ChatGPT became a household name. I remember discussing how every television could, and should, morph into a sophisticated computer. In my blog, "Make Every TV, a Computer? First Step taken" Make Every TV, a Computer? First Step taken, I envisioned Set Top Boxes evolving into "Super-computers with terabytes of memory," integrating internet, enabling personalized advertising, and even connecting users to job portals. I wrote, "When 5G – Quantum Computing – DNA based Memory Storage – Li Fi – Face Recognition – AR – VR – AI - Blockchain etc mature, what I have envisaged above, is bound to happen." Seeing OpenAI achieve such a monumental valuation today feels like a tangible step towards that pervasive, data-driven intelligence. The underlying principle is the same: technology, especially AI, will permeate every aspect of our digital lives, turning passive devices into active, intelligent nodes.

From Information Retrieval to Solution Delivery

Perhaps even more validating is how OpenAI's success aligns with my long-held belief about the future of information access. Over a decade ago, in my "TIME TRAVEL?" blog TIME TRAVEL?, I predicted, with an almost uncanny foresight, that "in another 25 years, no one will search for 'INFORMATION' on Google - Yahoo - MSN etc. They will enter their current / expected 'problem' in a hand - held device and receive readymade 'solution / answer / advice' in milliseconds!" OpenAI's ChatGPT, with its ability to generate coherent and contextually relevant responses, is precisely that shift from mere information retrieval to direct "solution / answer / advice." It's no longer just about finding facts, but about engaging with an intelligence that can help solve problems, a concept I further explored in Google to offer “Life Advice”? As Foreseen? in the context of AI becoming a personal life coach. The market's valuation of OpenAI reflects this profound redefinition of how we interact with knowledge and problem-solving.

Anticipating the Need for AI Regulation

The rapid ascent of AI, while exhilarating, also brings with it significant societal questions and challenges. The conversation around regulation is paramount, something I addressed with urgency. In "Law of Chatbot, a small subset of EU Law of AI" Law of Chatbot, a small subset of EU Law of AI, I explicitly proposed a "self-regulatory 'Law of Chatbots' within 2 months," anticipating that official governmental bodies, like the EU, would move at a much slower pace to establish comprehensive AI laws. The explosive growth and deep integration of AI into global infrastructure, as demonstrated by OpenAI's valuation, only amplify the need for thoughtful, agile, and effective governance frameworks that I highlighted then.

The Imperative of Adaptability: A Non-Performing Vision is a Liability

This monumental valuation of OpenAI, eclipsing established players, underscores a fundamental truth I've frequently emphasized: companies must continuously ask, "What business are we in?" NPV (NON-PERFORMING VISION). Those who cling to an outdated
