With
India striving to create an ecosystem to encourage adoption of electric
mobility, the latest step is expected reduce its upfront cost, as compared to
internal combustion engine (ICE) fitted vehicles. Battery
in an EV accounts for 30-40% of its cost.
Currently,
host of new entrants, both domestic and foreign, are working on creating an
ecosystem of swappable batteries such as ,
Ø Chetan Maini-led Sun Mobility,
Ø Gurgaon-based
Exicom Power Solutions and
Ø 22 Kymco, an
alliance between startup Twenty Two Motors Pvt. Ltd and Taiwan’s Kymco Global

This
intelligence is what Maini hopes
would give Sun Mobility an advantage.
The
company would,
· know
the state of every battery in real time
· what the users did with it
· whether they
were used properly or not
· If
they dropped the battery, the network
would sense
it
· If
the performance declined due to high
temperature, the network would sense that,
too
· All
the batteries and the entire distribution
infrastructure, will be smart, relaying back
business-sensitive information to a central
grid.
· The
data will eventually allow the company
to PREDICT which kiosk will need battery
refills, at what time , allowing for
a seamless
and glitch-free operation

Reason Shri Nitin Gadkariji must be admired is :
He has no hesitation to admit that he was wrong . He
wastes no time to change the policy

highways minister Nitin Gadkari has said official think tank NITI Aayog’s battery swapping policy for accelerated
adoption of electric and shared vehicles is not viable and hence wouldn’t work.
Ø “The battery
swapping policy I feel is not appropriate
for the country because it is a very difficult thing,” the minister
said at the Smart Mobility Conference organised by industry association FICCI
on Monday.

This is a welcome step – among many other steps which still
remain before we can start controlling :
Ø Pollution – and annual
12 lakh premature deaths being caused in India due to Air Pollution , largely
due to emissions from Petrol – Diesel vehicles
Ø
Our horrible Traffic Jams ( caused by 230 million Petrol –
Diesel vehicles )
