Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

UK Moves Asylum-Seekers to Barge Off Southern England in Bid to Cut Costs     08 Aug 2023

Extract :

A small group of asylum-seekers has been moved onto a barge moored in southern England as the U.K. government tries to cut the cost of sheltering people seeking protection in the country, British news media reported Monday.

The asylum-seekers were transferred to the Bibby Stockholm, a floating hostel that will ultimately house up to 500 men, from other sites around the country.

More were expected to arrive later Monday as authorities seek to reduce the number of asylum-seekers housed in expensive hotel rooms that were requisitioned on an emergency basis as the number of arrivals has surged in recent years.

The barge, which is owned by UK-based Bibby Marine, is normally used to provide temporary housing for workers when local accommodation isn’t available. With three stories of closely packed bedrooms, the barge resembles a college dormitory, though the rooms are utilitarian. It also includes a kitchen, dining area, common rooms and laundry facilities.

The U.K. government wants to use barges and former military bases to accommodate some migrants after the cost of housing them in hotels soared to 1.9 billion pounds ($2.4 billion) last year.

Home Office Minister Sarah Dines told the BBC that people arriving in the U.K. via unauthorized means should have “basic but proper accommodation” and that they “can’t expect to stay in a four-star hotel.”

My Take :

Ø  MUAMMAR GADDAFI - A VISIONARY ?  …………………………….. 04 Aug 2015

Extract :

In the first 7 months of 2015 , some 190,000 north Africans have tried to cross the Mediterranean from Libya to Italy

2,000 died on the way

188,000 were rescued on high seas and permitted to land in Italy

That is some 1,000 per day  ! Soon to become 10,000 per day  !

And , whereas some European leaders are taking a humanitarian view of this illegal migration , others want to stop this " Human Flood "

May be those who realize that these " Waves " of persecuted and starving people  are unstoppable , dare not blame their governments for ignoring what  Guardian  reported on  01 Sept 2010 , as follows :

"In a highly theatrical visit to Italy this week, Gaddafi warned that Europe would turn "black" unless it was more rigorous in turning back immigrants. Libya is a key transit point for illegal migration from Africa to Europe. The Libyan leader said the bill for sealing the crossing routes would be at least € 5 bn a year.

While in Rome Gaddafi advised Europeans to convert to Islam and sought to bolster his claim for billions from Europe by warning that millions of Africans were seeking to migrate to the EU.

"We don't know what will be the reaction of the white and Christian Europeans faced with this influx of starving and ignorant Africans," the Libyan leader told a Rome meeting attended by Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian prime minister. "We don't know if Europe will remain an advanced and united continent or if it will be destroyed, as happened with the barbarian invasions."

You may have umpteen reasons to blame Gaddafi but you cannot fault him on his vision !

I foresee something similar happening to Australia in the next 5 years , with millions of poor / starving people from all over Asia , flooding its shores

Ø  No use Fighting ! …………………………………………………………………. 25 Apr 2016

Entire world produces 280 million tons of plastics , every year

Of this , some 20 million tons finds its way into world's oceans

Rest finds its way into ugly land-fills

A very tiny percentage of this has accumulated at one spot in Pacific Ocean

It is called Great Pacific Garbage Patch , , covering an area , twice the size of United Kingdom ( approx. 500,000 Sq Km )

Since most of this is non-degradable , it will continue to float for 50 years

Hundreds of scientists and governments are working for years to find a solution to this problem of cleaning up the ocean by removing floating plastic

But the solution is evading !

Use of current method of skimming will take several decades to clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch

But if some method can be found to ,

Increase the thickness of the patch to several hundred feet

Bind the loosely floating plastic with some glue / resin , to turn it into a

strong land like mass ( of course , still floating )

Build onto this light weight pre-fabricated homes

then ,

it could become a Nation of 126 million inhabitants ( twice the population of UK , since Pacific Garbage Patch is twice the area of UK ) !

Of course , if this method succeeds , 280 million tons can create an entire continent , the size of Europe !

Every year , too !

May be scientist can even find a way to tow it away anywhere  !

For EU threatened with an influx of a million migrants every year , this could be a much cheaper – and humanitarian - way of housing them

Much cheaper than what Elon Musk / Mark Zukerberg / Jeff Bezo etc are spending on Space Missions to locate inhabitable distant Earth-like planets !

Why spend billions of dollars on finding ways to bio-degrade plastics ?

Just find a way to " Re-Use " it for benefit of poor people !

Call it USM ( United States of Migrants ) !

There’s a country-sized problem in the north Pacific Ocean — a patch of trash has grown to the size of France.

So the environmental charity Plastic Oceans Foundation has paired up with the news and entertainment publication LadBible to campaign for it to be recognised as an official country.

The campaign claims that, under Article 1 of the 1993 Montevideo Convention on the rights and duties of states, a country must be able to :

·         define a territory,

·         form a government,

·         interact with other states , and

·         have a permanent population.

The Great Pacific Garbage Patch has borders ( sort of ), and it’s easy to create

a government and institutions for interacting with others.

Now with former US vice president Al Gore signing up as the country’s first

citizen and more than 100,000 signing the petition to be granted citizenship,

the campaign has submitted its application earlier this month to the United

Nations to recognise the Trash Isles as the world’s 196th country.

The project is the brainchild of advertising professionals Michael Hughes and

Dalatando Almeida, according to AdWeek. Designer Mario Kerkstra helped

create a flaga passport, currency (called debris) and stamps.

Dear Heidi ,

( CEO - Byfusion /  Heidi@byfusion.com

On your website, you claim ( FAQ ) :

WILL BYBLOCK FLOAT?

Yes. Despite its hefty 22lb weight, ByBlock is buoyant. This is due to the small air pockets which reside between sections of the shredded platic.

This property of ByBlock renders it the IDEAL MATRIAL for turning the Great Pacific Garbage Patch into a large CONTINENT that can house millions of MIGRANTS

If you succeed, you would have found solution for humanity's great problem

If you create a working demo ( a floating isle of ByBlock , 1 Km x 1 Km , and supporting , light , one story ( only Ground Floor ) , pre-fab houses, then , your company will not have any problem , raising $ 100 BILLION in the market
