Aadhar - for HR ?

Aadhar  Aggregate   Anonymous  Data  Harvesting  about  Recruitment

Even as debate on Data Privacy is raging and B N Srikrishna Committee is debating the PROS and CONS of Privacy vs Publicity ( of data ) , there is a general consensus that aggregating anonymized data for the purpose of GREATER GOOD of the Society , should be permitted

I want to go one step further and say :

Such gathering and using of Anonymized data should be Encouraged / Solicited / Mandated , for policy and strategy formulation

Here is a glimpse of what I have in my mind

I worked in a large engineering company for over 30 years .

So did many of my colleagues , all of us starting as JUNIOR supervisors and retiring as GENERAL MANAGERS, after serving for 20 / 30 / 40 years

This was between 1950s and 1990s

How did we fare when it came to the “ Salary Increments “ that we received ,

·          to compensate us for neutralizing the rising “ Cost of Living “ ?

·          to improve our “ Standard of Living “ ?

Look at the following (  ANONYMIZED  ) data about Salary Growth ( Rs per month )  :

Name  /  Start  / End  /  Diff  /  Years of Service / Growth/month( ave ) / Joining Year

A   /   Rs  2500   /  Rs  19,250   /  Rs 16,750  /  24  /  Rs 698  /  1972

=======================================================
B   /    350     /    17,700     /     17,350    /    39     /   445    /    1956

C    /   3,000    /   13, 270    /   10,270    /   18   /       570     /    1977

D    /   1,600    /    16,900    /   15,300    /   23    /     665    /     1971

E    /    2,700    /   10,300    /   7,600    /   21    /     362    /       1971

F     /    135    /    7,700     /   7,565     /    43    /      176    /     1948

G    /    625    /   9,985    /    9,360   /     31     /      302     /     1959

H     /    2,500    /  6,000   /   3,500   /    17     /      206    /      1972

J     /   1,400    /  7,500   /   6,100    /    23     /       265    /      1965

Do you see the “ limitations “ of the above “ analysis “ ?

It pertained to just one COMPANY / one INDUSTRY / one CITY / one EDU LEVEL / one DESIGNATION LEVEL / nine EMPLOYEES

Can you guess what “ Insights “ such “ Data Analytics “ could yield if it was for :

·         A million  Companies , operating in

·         100  different  Industries , and located in

·         5,000  Cities , covering

·         100 million  Employees , having

·         500  different  Edu Qualifications , and having

·         1000  different  Titles / Designations

Also remember that the above-tabulated analysis was carried out by :

·         one retired employee ( possessing limited natural intelligence ) ,

·         after a lapse of  30 years  and ,

·         taking a  few hours  of data-digging / tabulating ?

·

Can you guess if such analysis were to be carried out ,

·         INSTANTANEOUSLY

·         DYNAMICALLY

·         AUTOMATICALLY ( without human intervention ) , and by

·         ARTIFICIAL  INTELLIGENCE  ( AI ) ,

Then what kind of  POLICY INPUTS  that could provide  ?

To know ,

·         Aadhar ( Aggregate   Anonymous  Data  Harvesting  about  Recruitment )

·         How it can be implemented ,

Why don’t they park in their flats ?

A news headline in Hindustan Times ( 28 Aug ) reads :

“ Live or work in SoBo ? You can’t park your car on roads anymore

Parking on streets banned after decision ensured smooth traffic flow during Maratha Morcha

Traffic police has banned parking on both sides of these roads in South Mumbai , as they are on their priority list

There is a legend that a great French princess, on being informed that the country people had no bread, replied, " Then let them eat cake ! "

To 22 lakh car owners of Mumbai , BMC / Traffic Police / Maharashtra Government , seem to be saying :

“ If you don’t have a parking place on the road , why don’t you park your car inside your flats ? “

Next expect them to say :

“ As against 22 lakh cars , we have parking space on the roads , for only 3.3 lakh cars ( approx.. for 15 % of the cars

And , each car , on an average , gets used DAILY ( being driven on the road ) for just 3 hours out of available 24 hours ( …. 12  % of the time ! )

For the balance 21 hours , it is just PARKED on the streets , causing all of our PARKING SPACE SHORTAGES

Hence , we offer you Car Owners , the following options :

·         At any given time , only 3.3 lakh cars will be allowed to be parked on the roads , with the rest having to park inside their flats ( like ODD / EVEN number scheme )

·         Let everyone dispose off their PERSONAL cars and use  “ Ride Sharing “ arrangements . Working round the clock , these 3.3 lakh “ Ride Sharing Cars “ would suffice to take all of you to your work-place and back

Of course , you will need to stagger your WORKING HOURS round the clock in such a way that , at any given point of time , only 3.3 lakh persons are using those cars

·         Convince your employers to allow you to “ Work from Home “ , using Video Conferencing / Holographic projections etc , to mark your attendance

·         Use specially created , green coloured , “  Car Donor Public Transport ( BEST Buses / Local Trains / Metros  ) “ , which will be FREE  to those of you ( and to your entire family ) , who surrender their personal cars to the Government and undertake not to buy a personal transport in future

Future of commuting within Mumbai , will see a “ Sea Change “ !

Smart Cars , Safe Cars , Social Cars ?

Today’s Times of India carries an article , titled :

“ Telematics can detect even yawns and trigger alert : Soon , all of us will be driving smart , safe cars  “

Article goes on to list following features of such a SMART  DRIVE :

GETTING  TELEMATICS-READY :

·         Any car can be made smart using RFID stickers , mobile apps or retrofitted devices

·         Fast 4G cellular networks will make services available across country

WHAT  IT  CAN  DO :

·         Alert police, hospitals and family after an accident

·         Give drivers real-time alerts from social media data

·         Alert fleet-owners to bad weather and roadblocks on the way

·         Re-route past nearest  fuel station if tyre pressure is low

·         Capture video/photo evidence of accident, dispute or crime

·         Detect driver fatigue and send alerts

·         Continuously monitor truckers for distractions such as cell phones and meals

So much for the “ SMART “ and the “ SAFE “

Can telematics make cars ( for that matter , ALL vehicles ) also “ SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE “  ?

Not only it can , it must !

If you do not have time to go through my following blogs , reproduced below , is a partial list , from

  “  Internet  of Vehicles  “  {  04  March  2017  }

=================================

Most vehicles will  be electric ( essentially , “ computers on wheels “ ), automatically determining the best / shortest, route / stops and optimizing vehicle performance . Mobile Apps will be a governing device

·         Vehicles will be internet connected with one another , exchanging data

·         Vehicles will be internet connected with servers of Transport Authorities / Traffic Police / Pollution Control Boards and a host of other governmental / institutional organizations , and be relaying all sorts of data  24*7 .  Vehicles will report accidents ( being hit ) and thefts ( being stolen ) , on their own !

·         All vehicles will carry a whole lot of “ Sensors “ , which will continuously “ monitor “ the conditions of the vehicles and relay the same to all the authorities

·         All vehicles will be equipped with RADAR – LIDAR –CAMERAS – GPS locators – / Augmented Reality  etc , to avoid collisions / accidents

·         Prepaid RFID chips ( linked to Aadhar / Bank Accounts  ? ) for Road Taxes / Insurance Premiums / Toll charges / Fines / Carbon Credits ( through DBT )

·         In-Built Sensors will measure , ( and request maintenance on their own ! ),

#   Engine ( or Electric Motor ) temperature

     #   Pressures / Displacements / Compression Ratios in case of petrol / diesel

Vehicles / Battery Charge Levels / fuel consumption

     #   Emission Levels ( PM2.5 / CO2 etc ) in petrol / diesel vehicles

     #   Tyre pressures / wear and tear of moving parts / RPM

     #   Vehicle speed / acceleration / braking distance

     #   Proximity to other moving / stationary vehicles or objects

     #   Weather conditions / Visibility levels / Traffic Density

     #   Condition of the road being traversed ( co-efficient of friction )

     #   Condition of the person driving ( sleepy / drunk etc )

     #   Whatever else you want “ measured / monitored / relayed
