Young : and dying on roads

Context :

Nearly 1.5 lakh people are dying on roads and a majority of them are young / TOI  / 28 Jan 2021

Extract / Quotes from interview with Shri Nitin Gadkariji :

Ø  There are lapses in road engineering and we need to fix that. We have decided to conduct a safety audit of all roads and to see that there are proper road markings, signage and crash barriers. We are planning to give these tasks to IITs and reputed engineering colleges. They can identify problems and suggest how these can be rectified.

Ø  There is hardly any compliance of lane driving. Trucks and heavy vehicles are always on the extreme right lane. You can see two-wheelers almost doing a circus on roads. The rules of road have to be followed.

Ø  We need to have a mechanism so that people can become the watchdog. We will allow people to click photographs of violations and send them. They can spot vehicles parked on roads and report them. Let them get a part of the fine as incentive. Unfortunately, for us, roads mean free of charge parking lots for all.

Ø  We find old buses, trucks and vehicles dumped on roads for years. These also cause crashes. We have to stop this and remove them. We will make a rule for this and all such violations will be treated as an offence

Ø  We need full time people to take up this work. The Road Safety Board, which is being set up, will take the lead

Ø  I am not making a comparison of road deaths with Covid. But just see how all of us got so sensitised about the disease and came together to defeat it.

Ø  Nearly 1.5 lakh people are dying on roads and a majority of them are young. But why are we not sensitized ? I don’t spare myself for failing to do my bit.

Ø  Road safety cannot be an annual event like observing a ‘punyatithi’. We have to institutionalize it and this must go on for the entire year.

===================================================

Dear Shri Gadkariji,

We know that you do not spare yourself .

But it is not easy to “sensitize“ vehicle drivers / riders . You have been working on this ( premature accidental death ) problem for many years, without significant reduction in deaths .

Following are main contributors :

Ø  Poor condition of roads ( including poor lighting )

Ø  Poor condition of Vehicles

Ø  Careless / rash driving on part of the drivers

Even as we continue to “ sensitizedrivers , there is an urgent need to “ institutionalize “ the vehicles

By mandating that vehicle manufacturers embed / pre-install following types of SENSORS ( over 2 years ? ):

     #   Empty weight and fully laden weight

     #   Engine ( or Electric Motor ) temperature

     #   Pressures / Displacements / Compression Ratios in case of petrol / diesel

Vehicles / Battery Charge Levels / fuel consumption

     #   Emission Levels ( PM2.5 / CO2 etc ) in petrol / diesel vehicles

     #   Tyre pressures / wear and tear of moving parts / RPM

     #   Vehicle speed / acceleration / braking distance

     #   Proximity to other moving / stationary vehicles or objects

     #   Weather conditions / Visibility levels / Traffic Density

     #   Condition of the road being traversed ( co-efficient of friction )

     #   Condition of the person driving ( sleepy / drunk etc )

     #   Whatever else you want “ measured / monitored / relayed

If rigidly implemented, these sensors will ensure that the vehicles are “ Fit for driving at all times ( from birth till scrappage ).

There would be no need for taking the vehicle to the nearest “ FITNESS TESTING CENTRE “ ( of which , I believe there are only 25 in our entire country, at this moment – and only 2 are functional )

Why wait for 15 / 20 years to discover that a vehicle is UNFIT ? – then refuse to renew its registration ?

We all know of cars with sensors which will not allow the engine to START, unless the driver has fastened the seat belt

It is possible for today’s technology to IMMOBILIZE any vehicle instantly, if any of the above-mentioned SENSORS find that the particular parameter is SUB-STANDARD !

Is it too difficult to imagine a car engine not starting if the driver is DRUNK ? Or pulling aside on the road if driver is “ not attentive but feeling sleepy “ ?. I believe AMAZON is about to introduce this in all of its Delivery Vehicles in USA

I have no doubt you have read reports of FSD ( Full Self Driving ) cars reducing “ Accident Rate “ by 99 % !

It seems, hardware ( Sensors - Cameras – Radars – Lidar  etc ) and the software installed in these cars are far better able to,

#   “ Sense / Detect / Predict “ traffic conditions – and

#   take “ Preventive actions “

much better / quicker than human drivers !

Even for a moment, I am not suggesting that, we need to introduce  DRIVERLESS  cars ( FSD at Level 5.0 )

For many reasons (including not rendering drivers jobless ), we need to keep the drivers

But that must not hold us back from introducing (mandatory over next 2 years ? ) FSD technology in our cars !

In fact ( on pilot-runs of millions of miles by TESLA – WAYMO – GM etc ), the fantastic ability of  DRIVERLESS ( FSD ) cars to literally ELIMINATE deaths on roads due to accidents ( attributable to human driver limitations ), has got so well established that one USA State has changed AUTO SAFETY FEATURE law, whereby future FSD cars , need not have :

Ø  Steering Wheel

Ø  Accelerator – Brake Pedal

Ø  Gear Shift Mechanism

Ø  Driver Seat

Ø  Rear View Mirror

Ø  Concept of FRONT / REAR of a vehicle !

(  Read : U.S. exempts self-driving vehicles from some crash standards  /  ET Auto  / 15 Jan 2021  )

Dear Shri Gadkariji,

Although TESLA is the current world-leader in FSD experimentation ( in its electric cars ), and would be most welcome should it decide to set up manufacturing facility in India , introduction of sensor-based FSD technology can be easily done by our own domestic car manufacturers ( many of which are subsidiaries of leading foreign auto companies and have access to latest technology )

I urge you to ask those “ IITs  and reputed Engineering Colleges “ to examine suggestions , contained in my following earlier e-mails before submitting their recommendations to you

Jack and his ( Bitcoin ) Beanstalk ?

Context :

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Jay-Z Announce Bitcoin Endowment 'Btrust' With Initial Focus on India, Africa

Extract :

Twitter CEO and Co-Founder Jack Dorsey on Friday announced that he was giving BTC 500 (approximately Rs. 172 crores ) along with American rapper Shawn Corey Carter — famously known as Jay-Z — to launch a new endowment called Btrust. It will be aimed at funding Bitcoin development, with initial focus in Africa and India, the executive said. The latest move by Dorsey comes at a time when the Indian government is looking for ways to ban all “private” cryptocurrencies.

Dorsey, 44, took to Twitter to announce the launch of his Bitcoin endowment Btrust. “It'll be set up as a blind irrevocable trust, taking zero direction from us,” he said.

He also provided a link to a Google form for as a board member application. The form also mentioned that the mission of Btrust is to “ make Bitcoin the Internet's currency.”

“The reason I have so much passion for Bitcoin is largely because of the model it demonstrates, a foundational Internet technology that is not controlled or influenced by any single individual or entity,” he had tweeted. “This is what the Internet wants to be, and over time, more of it will be.”

Dorsey also in 2018 also mentioned in a media interview that he believed Bitcoin would once become the world's single currency.

At the same time, the Indian government is once again planning to ban Bitcoin and other popular cryptocurrencies in the country. A bill has been in development with a title “The Cryptocurrency and Regulation of Official Digital Currency Bill, 2021” to prohibit “all private” cryptocurrencies, while exploring the possibility of issuing a digital version of the rupee.

===================================================

MY TAKE :

Ø  Last year, Jack Dorsey had refused to attend a meeting of Parliamentary Committee on IT

Ø  Currently, Twitter has dragged its feet on blocking some accounts spreading FAKE / INFLAMATORY NEWS

Ø  Could Dorsey’s BTrust be some clever way to circumvent the “ proposed “ Indian Law banning Bitcoin ?

Ø  Jack is not shying away from declaring his intention for domination entire world’s FINANCIAL STRUCTURE . Note his words : make Bitcoin the Internet's currency : considering that all countries are gradually moving away from CASH CURRENCIES and switching over to DIGITAL PAYMENTS ( all of which will ride on the backbone of INTERNET )

Ø  There is no way he can enter China, which is expected to issue its own sovereign CRYPTO-CURRENCY soon

Ø  He realizes ( and too well from his previous interactions with the governments ) that INDIA and AFRICA , are SOFT STATES , where bickering politicians care far more to create obstacles to REFORMS than cooperate for the benefit of millions of their citizen

Ø  We, in India, may not have any legal recourse to stop BTrust but I hope our proposed law will ensure that Indian citizen cannot participate in such Trusts or make any payments / investments in such Trusts , using RUPPEEs or any other currencies .

Ø  Long term goal of the proposed Indian Sovereign Crypto-Currency ( SARAL = Sovereign And Rupee Alternate Legal ) should be to replace all CASH CURRENCY NOTES, by 2030 ( Sweden is banning CASH from 2023 ).

Ø  From 2022 till 2030, from time-to– time, RBI can fix the exchange rate between our current legal tender RUPEE and SARAL

Beijing's $1.5 Million Digital Yuan Giveaway: China to Airdrop Digital Currency for Chinese New Year

===================================================

Dear Indian Legislators,

Two years back, it was Facebook which wanted domination through its ( planned ) LIBRA

Today, it is Twitter with its BTrust

No one should be surprised that tomorrow, Google and Amazon will come up with something similar, to enable their advertisers to pay them in their own versions of Crypto-Currencies

Reason is simple

Hardly a week passes without some or other country proposing to levy some kind of BIG TECH TAX / EQUALIZATION TAX / PAYMENT for CONTENT etc for Social Media giants , which are making BILLIONS of dollars of profit each year, by selling PRIVATE / PERSONAL DATA of their millions of users

They are not going to give-in easily

Through introduction of their own Crypto-Currencies, they will try and make it  as difficult as possible for the countries to tax them

It is up to us, how we can make them pay ( compensate ) their users for selling their personal data

Data Sharing Policy : What went wrong ?

Context :

Vahan, Sarathi Data Sharing Yields Rs 111  Cr    /  ET – 12 Feb 2021

Extract :

Ø  The government has earned over Rs 111.38 Crores by providing access to Vahan and Sarathi databases to private entities, Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Parliament on Thursday.

Ø  The data has been shared with law enforcement agencies, the home ministry, auto, freight and insurance companies. A list of around 170 parties with which the two databases have been shared include BMW, Axis Bank, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, L&T Financial Services, Mercedes Benz, among others.

Ø  The Transport Ministry has however discarded the bulk data sharing policy issued in 2019, which allowed the Ministry to share the Vahan and Sarathi databases

===================================================

Hey !  That averaged to Rs 65.52 Lakh per each “ share

What is more, data is not like a piece of furniture, which you can “ Sell “ only ONCE, to one party – and then, it is no more “ Owned “ by the seller . It is gone for ever

Beauty of DATA is that you can “ SELL “ the same data AGAIN & AGAIN , simply by keep making Digital Copies

Dear Shri Gadkariji ,

News report reads :  Ministry has discarded bulk data SHARING policy

I suppose that means : Ministry will replace this SHARING policy with a DATA SELLING POLICY  !

Please consider this alternative

For justification , I urge you to refer to my following earlier e-mails :

Ø  Bulk Data Sharing / Selling Policy ? …………………………………[ 12 Mar 2019 ]

Ø  Released : Govt Policy for Selling Personal Data……………  [ 05 Sept 2020 ]

Extract :

Ø  The DEPA infrastructure provides a simple and transparent mechanism for making data exchange visible and explicit in ways that benefit all parties – either through enhanced services or direct monetary profits from sharing data.

Ø  However, since most individuals are accustomed to free services, Consent Managers could subsidize or relinquish the service fee charged to the data principals by charging the data users (much like a subscription model).

A matter of { mere } 4 years

Times of India ( 08 Feb 2021 ) carries a big advt on front page, which reads ( partly ) :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ICICI Bank  / iMobile Pay / POORE INDIA KA PAYMENT APP

Link Savings Account of Any Bank

Pay Anyone on Any Payment App

{  Introducing  iMobile Pay  - Powered by UPI  }

----------------------------------------------------------

Q >    But I don’t have an ICICI Bank account

A >     No problem ! You can link any of your Savings Account from any bank in

          India

-------------------------------------------------------------

Q >    Can I pay to shopkeepers or friends who use Google Pay, PhonePe , Paytm

         etc ?

A >    Yes ! You can safely send money to , or receive money from all payment

         apps that use UPI

---------------------------------------------------------------

Q >   What if I don’t have their account or UPI details ?

A >    Just select their mobile number from your phone’s address book. We’ll do

         the rest !

---------------------------------------------------------------

Q >    Can I do bill payments and recharges ?

A >    Yes, you can pay bills and do DTH & FASTag recharge instantly !

---------------------------------------------------------------

Q >    So , is iMobile Pay just a payment app ?

A >     No, it’s a banking app too !  You can apply for Personal Loans and Credit

          Cards with great offers

===================================================

Some 4 YEARS back , I sent following mail to our Policy Makers :

A Matter of Time ………………………..[ 03 Jan 2017 ]

Extract :

So  just wait to find out which Mobile Wallet comes up with the following " innovations " FIRST :

*  All bank accounts of a person ( in different banks ) become inter-

    operable / fungible ,

through seamless interlinking, using Aadhar / UPI Interface in a Mobile Wallet

No need to " select " a particular bank name

*  All transactions using a Mobile Wallet, automatically entered in  BLOCK-CHAIN

database commonly shared by ALL banks

 *  Wallet based algorithm will  move funds across different bank accounts  for

best yield ,  constantly searching for best interest rates offered by banks on

     Fixed Deposits

This will happen automatically, much like algorithm-based share trading ,

taking advantage of price differences in two bourses located 300 km apart ( in

    one thousandths  of a second ! )

No rocket science here considering availability of " BEST PRICE " apps for

   thousands of goods and services

And since computing power of mobiles are doubling every 18 months ( Moore's

Law ), nothing will stop algo-trading through a Mobile Wallet, as well ! ( Demat

   A/C on Wallet ? )

*  Of course , future Mobile Wallets will subsume within itself , ALL AUTOMATIC

PAYMENT APPS, using which ( individually ), currently I make following digital

    payments :

    #    Property Taxes / Locker Fees / Housing Society Charges / MTNL

    #    Mahanagar Gas / Tata Power / YOU broadband / Vodafone / TATA Sky TV

I expect , a future Mobile Wallet to take care of ALL my periodic dues,

    automatically

*  Without doubt , a future Mobile Wallet will need to serve all major regional

    languages

*  Equally important, all future Mobile Wallets will have to be SPEECH ENABLED

   Read : How To Go Cash-Less  [  27 Nov 2016  ]

The party introducing this feature first, will be the WINNER !

Rest will remain followers !

Let there be no doubt

Paytm / MobiKwik / FreeCharge / Itzcash / SBI Buddy and a dozen other Mobile Wallets , are not going to take it " lying down " from BHIM !

The jury is out !

===================================================

Today , 4 years down the line, I wonder :

In the TOI advt., ICICI raises following question – and answers :

Q >    So , is iMobile Pay just a payment app ?

A >    No, it’s a banking app too !  You can apply for Personal Loans and Credit

         Cards with great offers

So , I hope, someday soon, on my behalf,  iMobile will ( without consulting me ) :

Ø  # Buy / Sell shares for me ( the ultimate / automatic / AI driven  Algo-trading ? )

Ø  # Keep re-arranging my FD portfolio (  Wealth Management )

But than who knows – some startup might do this in 4 MONTHS instead of in 4 YEARS !

Booth App : Is that V 1.0 of VotesApp ?

Context :

Booth app may be introduced in Bengal poll to weed out bogus voters

Extract :

The Election Commission of India is likely to introduce the Booth App, within the forthcoming Bengal meeting polls in an effort to

Ø  weed out bogus voters,

Ø  keep away from duplicate voting and

Ø  provide correct particulars of the polling course of each two hours.

The functional process consists of the creation of an
encrypted QR code on the photo voter slips.

The booth-level officer scans the code and permits entry of voters whose names are listed.

The code is scanned once more to confirm the identification of the voter before permitting him/her to cast vote

The recorded entries are then transmitted back to the EC’s central server.

The returning officer gets to view the dashboard about real-time voter turnout and various poll events

The multifunctional app can even assist in offering
advance queue data and real-time turnout data to voters and officers.

“The booth app can auto-detect duplicate entries and prevent repeat voters from entering the polling station.

Whenever there is a duplicate entry, the polling official will get a loud sound on his mobile phone,” the official added.

The Booth app is configured to connect with the central ECI server in a minimalistic means and transmits the info in an encrypted method. This helps in giving significant details about

Ø  gender-wise polling,

Ø  age-wise polling,

Ø  velocity of polling,

Ø  site visitors throughout the day and

Ø  different poll-related occasions and incidences.

===================================================

Question :

What indicates that Booth App could gradually “ evolve “ into VotesApp ?

Answer :

Election Commission seem to have taken cognizance of my following e-mail :

How about “ Sandbox for Mobile Voting “ ? ………………………..[ 27 Nov 2020 ]

Extract :

What features should be built into the “ Mobile Voting Sandbox “ ?

Ø  Central Election Commission (  CEC )  to get the Mobile App developed and oversee its working

Ø  CEC to declare ( 2 months in advance ) date of Bye Election for a given constituency

Ø  Mobile App will work on that date only and between 8am – 6pm only

Ø  On that date, at 6pm. it will self-destruct automatically, even if not used

Ø  If used, App will self-destruct immediately after transmitting the data to the Central Server of CEC

Ø  Although a voter can vote once again from his Mobile AFTER he has already voted from physical booth, it will NOT be possible to do other way around ( ie:, he cannot first vote from mobile and then go to booth for voting ).

Ø  As soon as a voter has voted from booth, EVM will immediately transmit his vote ( candidate selected ) to the Central Server of CEC

Ø  Now , if he has voted for candidate XYZ ( belonging to BJP ) in booth, then after going home , he cannot vote ( select ) candidate LMJ ( belonging to Congress ) , from his Mobile App . If he does, Server / App will not let him click “ SUBMIT “ . [  NO  DUPLICATE VOTING  ]

This is safeguard is essential to ensure that voters do not play mischief / confuse CEC, by voting for different candidates, using different voting methods

Server will allow him to proceed ONLY if he selects the SAME candidate ( XYZ ) , on his Mobile App

A voter ( from the declared constituency ) can download the Mobile App ( only once ) , from the website of CEC , by filling in an online form where he will need to establish without doubt that, he is a genuine voter belonging to that particular constituency ( Voter ID – PAN – Aadhar – Sefie – Mobile No. etc ). Server will ensure that no one, other than a voter belonging to that particular constituency, will be able to download the App [ NO BOGUS VOTER ]

Ø  Voting data generated using Mobile App , shall NOT be published till the CEC declares the Winner based on EVM based voting ( no exit pole – no prejudging – no confusion – no mischief ! )

Ø  However, once the Winner is declared, data from both methods of voting will be published on CEC website ( of course , without in any way, revealing the identity of any voter )

Ø  The entire METHODOLOGY of “ Mobile Voting Sandbox “, must be widely publicized on CEC website / other Govt websites / Social Media sites / News Papers / TV channels etc., in order to establish its TRANSPARENCY / RELIABILITY among general public and among political parties.

Ø  Govt may consider inviting comments / suggestions from public on CEC portal
