A White Hole called Reliance Retail

Far away in the universe, there are extremely dense objects possessing insane levels of gravitational force

An object from which, even light cannot escape !

In absence of any light emanating from these objects, these are invisible to telescopes

But scientists have developed methods for establishing their existence

These objects are called “ Black Holes

Any other object that comes within the SINGULARITY of a Black Hole, gets sucked in – with no chance to escape for ever !

Closer at home, we are in the process of observing the birth of a White Hole – otherwise known as :

A few days back , RR tied up with

#  Facebook ( 280 million Indian subscribers )

#  WhatsApp ( 400 million Indian subscribers ) ,

and launched JioMart , enabling buyer to place orders on a nearby Kirana Store, using WhatsApp and get home delivery

Within 2 years RR plans to on-board 3 crore ( 30 million ) Kirana Stores

Besides tie-ups with kiranas, Reliance has 11,316 stores across Consumer Electronics , Fashion and lifestyle

At 14 retail shops per 1000 people , India probably has 1.8 crore ( 18 Million ) retail shops in following categories :

Ø  Food & Grocery
Ø  Apparel
Ø  Consumer Durables & IT
Ø  Jewelry & Watches
Ø  Pharmacy & Wellness
Ø  Furniture & Furnishings
Ø  Footwear

Question :

Will the “ Technology Platform “ which RR is in the process of developing in collaboration with WhatsApp / Jio ( 370 million subscribers ), for the 30 million KIRANA STORES,  work equally well for 18 million Retail Stores listed above ?

Have no doubt  !

Just as in case of those celestial Black Holes, each addition of a Store in the RR White Hole Eco-System, increases its “ Gravitational Pull “ exponentially , enabling it to “ attract “ still more stores !

What else will RR White Hole Eco System, gobble up ?

Here is that Eco System :

Manufacturers  >  Stores  >  Delivery Agents

With several million Stores in its fold , there is no doubt that , on their behalf , RR will negotiate and drive a hard bargain with thousands of Manufacturer for lowest prices / quick and direct deliveries to specified stores all over India ( bypassing whole sellers / distributors / warehouses ) /  90 days Credit etc

Which manufacturer can resist if RR commits to “ under-write “ 100 % of its annual production ?

So, within 2 years, RR will manage to pull-off what took Walmart in USA 20 years to do

That leaves open the third side of RR triangle , viz:

Delivery Agents

Expect the following “ moves “ from Mukeshbhai :

( A ) ….. Offer to Central Government for a Public-Private Partnership with INDIA POST

Utilizing the DELIVERY SERVICES of 4.3 lakh postmen located at 1.53 lakh post
              offices

Thereby , solve the problem of  maintaining “ Social Distancing “ during extended
              lockdown

              [ Read :  India Post “ morph to “ India Retail  /  12 April 2020  ]

He will make his offer “ irrestible “ ( remember , gravitational pull ? ) by telling the

            government :

Instead of suffering an annual loss of Rs 700 crore on India Post operations , how

about making an annual profit of Rs 70,000 crore ? “

( B ) …. Offer the government to take over the operations of 3.8 lakh Common Service

            Centers ( CSC )

           Mukeshbhai will offer :

          #  Current average monthly earning for 2.7 lakh Village Level entrepreneurs(VLE)

working from 1.63 lakh Gram Panchayats, is Rs 25,000 . RR will double it within

               one year

Work from Home ( WFH ) : Perseverance Pays

Context :

Extract :

Ø  As the work-from-home trend is anticipated to stay longer, the government has started working on ways to streamline the process further.

Ø  There are two important aspects of work-from-home.

     #  First, the need for software suits and hardware that allow a seamless experience
         without compromising on data security.

    #  Second, setting basic parameters for working from home.

Ø  The IT ministry has been focusing on the first, whereas the department of personnel and training has taken up the latter part

Ø  The IT Ministry has also invited companies and startups to develop an indigenous video conferencing solutions  to enable,

     #   smooth remote operations as well as,

     #   teleconferencing between agencies and state governments.

Ø  “India, a youthful nation known for its innovative zeal, can take the lead in providing a new work culture,” PM Modi added.

Dear Shri RaviShankar Prasadji,

3 years back, Shri Modiji said :

DIGITAL INDIA rests on the following : JAM ( Jan Dhan A/c – Aadhar ID – Mobile Number )

It is high time we add to these : EWA ( Email ID – WhatsApp – Aarogya Setu )

AS suggested in DIGITAL INDIA , each and every Indian MUST have an email id and a smart phone pre-installed with following Apps :

BHIM

ROMP

If we want ever larger number of our citizen to “  Work from Home “ , we need to provide them with the following “ basic parameters “ :

Ø  A Smart Phone , pre-loaded with Apps ( of the kind listed above ) which enable to interact ( video conferencing app, included ) and transact their business with the outside world

Dear Shri Prasadji,

We have following options :

Ø  To those who do not own a Smart phone, give one FREE, pre-loaded with above-mentioned Apps ( and NaVIC GPS only ) . A small price for ushering what Shri Modiji so aptly described as the “  NEW  WORK  CULTURE

Ø  To those who already own a Smart phone, deny certain govt services, until they download / install these apps

Congratulations, Shri Subramaniam

Ø  "We don't believe that we need more than 25% of our workforce at our facilities in order to be 100% productive," TCS's chief operating officer NG Subramaniam told Business Today

Ø  He explained that under the new model, each employee would spend only 25 per cent of their working time in office.

Ø  Experts said with TCS taking the lead, other Indian IT companies will have no option but to follow suit as the lessons learned from lockdown spark a more rapid and widespread “virtualisation” of business practices

Ø  Encouraging more employees to work from home will also help TCS save on costs, as it will require far less office space than what is occupied today.

=========================================================

They say   :     Necessity is the mother of Invention

I may add :     Dire circumstance is the father of Innovation

Apparently Covid-19 is forcing Indian Industries to “ Re-Invent “ themselves
Working from Home ( WFH ) has been talked about in the past but never taken seriously

EXAMPLES :

Ø  " BACK FACTORY " OF THE WORLD ?   …………………………………….[ 09 Sept 2015 ]

Extract :

      #  Millions of skilled Indian workers will operate factories around the World ,
sitting in , internet connected " Back Factories " in small Indian towns

Extract :

#  As a leader, what happens when you can scalably expand and connect your
workforce, not to mention your customer base, without the excess overhead of
office space and furniture ? Your organization can run faster and farther than your
     competition

The Spatial Web is also giving way to “virtual company headquarters” and completely virtualized   companies, where employees can work from home or any place on the planet

Delocalize with VR, and you can now hire anyone with Internet access ( right next
door or on the other side of the planet )

Web 3.0 is changing the way we work, where we work and who we work with.

Ø  Caused by CoronaVirus ?

      Extract :

People are now taking calls from home, in what promises to be an Uber-like
     disruption in customer service.

Global business process outsourcing (BPO) companies have begun pilot work-from-
home projects with Indian ecommerce and health-tech startups. This will enable them to
provide services that are cheaper and one that can be dialled-up or down based on
     demand.

However, with a near shutdown of large parts of China due to the spread of the Covid-19
virus, the work-at-home call centre model is likely to spread, industry executives said.

The model is also cheaper, a significant plus for clients and call centre operators in India

Teleperformance has shut some centres to move to a work-from-home model. Other
providers such as Sitel and Sykes are also increasing work-from-home agents.

Singh of Teleperformance said the shift would also help employ more women, particularly
    in India.

=============================

    Dear Shri  RaviShankar Prasadji,

    I urge you to grab this ( once-in-a-lifetime ) opportunity for :

Ø   Turning India into a LOW  COST  SERVICE  ECONOMY

Ø   By implementing  :

               A NEW ECONOMIC ORDER ? aka " Start Up Act - 2015 "

            Opportunity in Adversity ?
