Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

EV : Battery Charging Stations : Solar power Storage / Connecting the dots

We must try to leverage / converge technologies to solve following problems :

[ A ] … EV cars being 30-50 % more expensive than Petrol-Diesel cars
[ B  ] ..Pollution caused by Petrol / Diesel vehicles
[ C ]….Time spent in commuting to work
[ D ]….Traffic Congestions in Metro Cities
[ E  ]…Operating Costs of EV vs Petrol-Diesel vehicles
[ F ]….Non Availability of Battery Charging Stations
[ G ]….Storage of Surplus Solar Power ( produced in far off Desert Areas )
[ H ]….Lack of Transmission Lines for evacuation of Solar Power

[ A ] …. EV cars being 30-50 % more expensive than Petrol-Diesel cars / Range Anxiety

Extract :

Ø  Musk knows how to seize on that anxiety. On September 22, he will appear in a live webcast for Tesla “ Battery Day ”
Ø  Musk has teased that what he will reveal will “ blow your mind.”
Ø  There is only one message to be gleaned: that he intends to make a dramatic assertion that the newest Teslas will achieve cost parity with similar combustion
Ø  Frith, the BloombergNEF analyst, said the current industry average battery pack cost is at $130 kWh.
Ø  In China, CATLsays it can already produce an $80 kWh battery at the pack level, Reuters has reported, a system developed with Tesla
Ø  Last year, the company filed for a patent on a battery that will last a million miles in an electric car, enough for the average driver to keep going for 76 years. ..That is, he wants every motorist on the planet to believe they have to get rid of their current gasoline-driven vehicle and go electric. And not because they desire to save the planet, but for economic or safety reasons.
Ø  Cheaper batteries are a path to cheaper cars and for electrics to go mass market.

Extract :
Can weight of an E Car be reduced by 50 %  ?  And, if yes , can the Lithium-ion Battery capacity also get reduced by 50 % ?

It is around the corner as shown here

Extract :

Ø  The second underlying force is the cost vs. performance aspect. In itself, an electric motor delivering about 200 hp costs about $500 against $5000~6000 for the combustion engine equivalent. The battery costs, however, still give an edge to the piston engine: right now the battery pack would cost between $7000 and $8000.

Ø  But two factors need to be considered. One is the efficiency: the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) returns only 30 percent on the energy it consumes vs. almost 95 percent for an electric motor. Two, the cost of batteries is falling fast: it has been divided by ten during the last decade.

Now compare these with the following figures for E Buses in China :

Ø  In 2016 China was able to register 340 electric city buses every single day.
Ø  In China sales rose from 69 thousand units in 2015 to 132 thousand in 2016; 2017 marked a significant step backwards, following the reduction in subsidies: 90 thousand full electric buses and 16 thousand hybrid plug-in buses have been registeredØ  Shenzhen by the end of 2017 had committed to reach 100 per 100 of electric bus vehicles in operation (16,500 buses), Beijing aims at the goal of 10,000 by 2020, starting from 1,320 last year. Ø  In 2018 Guanzhou issued two tenders, the first for 3,138 and the second for 1,672 battery electric buses. A total of 4,810 electric buses.  The winner? BYD will provide 4,473 units of electric bus.Ø  In September 2018, Yutong Bus declared it has achieved a total sales volume of 90,000 new energy buses in France, UK, Bulgaria, Iceland, Chile, and China Macau among others ( Yutong’s annual sales volume, including every kind of bus and coach, exceeds 70,000 units).Ø  According to data from the China Bus Statistics Information Union, in the context of the overall weakness of the Chinese bus market, which decreased by 13.5% in the first three quarters of 2018, a total of 55,658 new energy buses were sold in the Chinese market, with a year-on-year increase of over 20%In 2019, the Chinese bus market witnessed a decrease of 11 per cent on 2018.

Dear Shri Nitin Gadkariji, {  Minister for Transport  },

Winston Churchill is attributed to have said ( re: German Invasion ) :

“ We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender “

Apart from fighting the Chinese military incursions in Ladakh, we need to fight their e – bus invasion , from the shop-floors of our Factories.

My suggestions listed here, will go a long way to empower our factories
