India's Edtech Sector Hires IIT Graduates

Extract from the article:

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are witnessing a significant influx of graduates into the booming edtech sector. Over the past five years, several thousand IIT graduates have been employed, either from campus placements or laterally hired as teachers. The edtech industry offers these IIT alumni a generous starting salary ranging from 10-12 lakh per year, showcasing a clear career progression to a package of 60 lakh-1 crore annually.

With the edtech sector's rapid growth and its attraction for IIT graduates, this trend underscores a shifting landscape in the employment dynamics of highly skilled individuals in India. The integration of top-tier technical talent into the education technology domain not only enhances the quality of educational offerings but also elevates the sector's overall capabilities and competitiveness.

My Take:

A.    TWICE THE JOBS AT HALF THE SALARY?

"In my blog post from 2013, I delved into the disparity in job creation and remuneration in India. The scenario posed a question similar to the one arising now with the edtech sector's hiring trends. Should organizations prioritize quantity over quality by offering reduced salaries to accommodate a higher number of employees, as seen in the case of State Bank of India's job vacancies?"

Brain Inc 2.0

"Reflecting on my 2022 blog post, where I discussed the cost advantage enjoyed by Indian tech firms in comparison to Western counterparts, the current scenario in the edtech sector echoes this disparity. The higher salaries offered by Indian edtech companies to IIT graduates in contrast to global norms highlight India's competitive edge in leveraging skilled manpower at relatively lower costs."

Call to Action:

To the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and leading edtech companies: Embrace this symbiotic relationship between high-caliber IIT talent and the edtech sector by fostering innovation, collaboration, and continuous professional development opportunities to drive further advancements in India's education technology landscape.

PM Modi launches drive to combat malnutrition on Veer Bal Diwas

Extract from the article:

In a recent development, Prime Minister Modi has initiated the "Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan" to promote healthy living and address the issue of malnutrition. This program aims to combat malnutrition and encourage healthy practices within village communities.

By launching this initiative, PM Modi is emphasizing the importance of nutrition and well-being, especially among children and mothers. The scheme signifies a concerted effort to tackle the persistent challenge of malnutrition in India through a community-driven approach.

My Take:

Thank You Madam Maneka Gandhiji

"Reflecting on my past suggestions to address malnutrition, such as the implementation of a mobile app named "BANMALI" and proposing the concept of 'Neutra-Kid' energy bars, I am pleased to see initiatives like the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan gaining momentum under PM Modi's leadership.

It underscores the importance of proactive measures in combating malnutrition and promoting a healthier society."

I Look Forward to Die Happy

"As I reflect on the impact of my suggestions on saving 1.2 million kids, I am encouraged by the government's steps towards implementing nutrition schemes like Poshan Abhiyan.

The relentless efforts to address malnutrition and ensure a brighter future for our children are commendable and reflect a positive direction in our nation's development."

Call to Action:

To the Ministry of Women and Child Development and all stakeholders involved in the Suposhit Gram Panchayat Abhiyan, I urge you to continue the momentum and expand the reach of this initiative to effectively combat malnutrition across all regions. Let's work together to create a healthier and nourished future for our nation's children.

How About Abolishing ?

Govt considers cutting personal income tax to lift consumption

Extract from the article: The Indian government is contemplating reducing personal income tax for individuals earning up to 1.5 million rupees annually as part of the upcoming Union Budget 2025. This potential tax cut aims to benefit the middle class and stimulate consumption in the sluggish economy. The final decision on this tax reduction proposal is expected closer to the budget announcement scheduled in February.

My Take:

Not Day Too Soon

"In my blog post from five years ago, I proposed a significant overhaul of the personal income tax structure, including reducing the highest slab rate to 25% from the existing 30%. This aligns with the current discussion on lowering taxes for specific income brackets, potentially empowering the middle class and encouraging spending."

 How Chinese Make Cheap

"Abolishing personal income tax, as discussed in a prior blog, could lead to a surge in household savings and productive investments. The idea of enhancing savings rates by eliminating income tax resonates with the current government's consideration of tax cuts to boost economic activities and increase consumer spending."

 The Rise of Robots

"As advocated in one of my recent blogs, the total elimination of personal income tax could provide individuals with substantial disposable income, potentially driving up consumption levels. This increase in consumption, as highlighted in the current tax cut proposal, could fuel economic growth and job creation."

Call to Action:

To the Indian Government:

Consider the long-term economic benefits of reducing personal income tax rates for the targeted income group and ensure that the proposed tax cuts effectively stimulate consumption and contribute to overall economic recovery.

RBI to test CBDC by crediting a portion of allowances to its officers' digital wallets

Extract from the article:

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to delve into the realm of Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) through a unique approach. By initiating a trial run with its own officials, the central bank plans to credit a fraction of the allowances it disburses directly to the digital wallets of RBI officers. This move signifies a practical step toward exploring the prospects and functionality of a CBDC within the official ecosystem.

This innovative strategy allows the RBI to closely monitor and evaluate the impact of a CBDC in a controlled environment before potential wider implementation. By involving its officers in this trial phase, the central bank aims to gain valuable insights into the practicality, usability, and acceptance of a digital currency system within its operational framework.

My Take:

 A. e-Rupee or IndiaBit: a Rose by Any Other Name?

In my earlier blog post, I discussed the concept of RBI's Central Bank Digital Currency (CBDC) and its potential implications. The current initiative by the RBI to experiment with CBDC by crediting allowances to its officers' digital wallets aligns closely with the need to explore practical implementations. This approach reinforces the importance of gradually introducing digital currency systems within established structures for a smooth transition to a digital economy.

B. CBDC: Slow and Steady

The phased implementation approach for RBI's digital currency highlighted in a previous blog post resonates well with the recent move to test CBDC with RBI officers. By progressing methodically through pilot phases for both wholesale and retail segments, the central bank demonstrates a strategic and cautious stance towards embracing digital currency. The ongoing efforts to integrate CBDC into the financial landscape reflect a well-thought-out strategy to adapt to evolving technology trends.

Call to Action:

To the Reserve Bank of India,

I urge a transparent sharing of insights and learnings from the pilot test of CBDC with its officers. This information can serve as a valuable resource for financial institutions, policymakers, and the public to understand the implications and benefits of transitioning towards a digital currency ecosystem.

Dear PM : Here is how to take Surya to Cities

Context :

PM asks officials to find ways apartment dwellers in cities can get benefit of rooftop solar scheme

Extract :

Pointing out that urban middle class families living in apartments are not getting the benefits of Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday asked officials to find ways out so that they can avail the scheme and cut down their electricity bills.

The PM was chairing the web-based PRAGATI meeting with all secretaries in the central govt and chief secretaries from states.

At present, people living in apartments can’t avail the scheme under which Centre provides subsidy of up to 40% of the cost of installing solar panels on rooftop as each individual beneficiary needs around 300 sq ft contiguous roof for generation of 300 units per month.

Sources said Modi told officials that there is a need to find a solution to this problem for achieving saturation of the ambitious scheme. They added that when officials suggested that the builders may get land for installation of the solar system, the PM said this was not practical in urban areas.

In an official release, the PMO said that Modi directed officials to enhance the capacity of installations of rooftops in the states and UTs by developing a quality vendor ecosystem. “He directed reducing the time required in the process, starting from demand generation to operationalisation of rooftop solar. He further directed states to adopt a saturation approach for villages, towns and cities in a phased manner,” the release said.

Dear PM :

Thank you for endorsing ( not having enough roof top area for all the tenants of multi-storied buildings of cities ) what I have repeatedly pointed out in some of my following emails

Please ask your officers to read following emails for solutions to this problem of not having sufficient roof area :

( A )  Co-Operative Methods of “ Generation – Distribution – Consumption “ of Solar Power

Ø  A Tale of Two States

Ø  If you don’t obsolete yourself

Ø  Dawn of a Solar Economy : SETI

Ø  Congratulations , Mathew Samuel

Ø  Co-operative Farming of Solar Power

Ø  Congratulations , Shri Saurabh Patelji

Ø  Surya Ghar Yojana : How to motivate DISCOMS

Ø  Found : Missing piece of Jigsaw Puzzle

Ø  Harvesting Solar Power Through Cooperation

( B )  Technology based Solutions

Ø  Topmost Candidate for PLI ?

Ø  China is turning its buildings into solar panels: They will make the entire country photovoltaic

Ø  https://www.solarwindow.com/

Dear PM :

All around us , there are working examples of CO-OPERATION , such as :

Ø  MONEY

Bank Accounts are “ Co-operating “ with one another . One can have a Bank account in Bank A in

Mumbai , and still be able to withdraw money from an ATM located in a Madurai branch of Bank B

Ø  FOOD

Government ( FCI ) is buying food grains from farmers ( Agri Produce Societies ), from all over the country and then distributing to PDS shops in all cities / villages ( One Card, One Ration )

Ø  TECHNICAL  MAGAZINES

A few days back , Govt announced a scheme whereby Scholars / Academicians / Students etc., will be able to “ access “ some 12,000 magazines / journals, through a SINGLE subscription

Ø  JOBS / EMPLOYMENT VACANCIES

Govt is clubbing together numerous govt-owned JOB PORTALS into e-SHRAM portal , whereby ALL

vacancies posted on any of these portals , is accessible by jobseekers and any resume hosted by any

portal , is searchable by any Employer

Ø  EDUCATION

Under New Education Policy – 2020 , students will be able to earn CREDITS in one college / University

and be able to freely transfer it across the country, to another college / university . They will , even

be able to take online courses ( from SWAYAM or proposed DIGITAL / VIRTUAL university ) and earn

             TRANSFERRABLE CREDITS

I am sure , there are many other examples of this kind of pooling resources for universal access / distribution

A few days ago , Shri Amit Shah ( Minister for Co-operatives ) launched 10,000 multipurpose agriculture / dairy cooperative societies . He said that Govt plan is to create 200,000 such cooperatives

I urge Shri Amitbhai to consider my suggestion and launch 100,000 SOLAR CO-OPERATIVE SOCIETIES , as suggested in my email >  A Tale of Two States

Dear Amitbhai ,

Surya Ghar Yojana just cannot work in cities unless you proclaim :

A person can invest in a Cooperative Solar Farm in Kutch and use power generated in Mumbai ( with Credit Balance / Debit Balance )

There is no way you can unravel a GORDIAN KNOT . You have to just cut it with a sword
