As I reflect on the rapid evolution of our world, it is clear that data has truly become the 'new oil' fueling the engines of progress. I have long maintained that the infrastructure we build today determines the boundaries of what we can achieve tomorrow. It is truly heartening to see my home state of Gujarat take a decisive, visionary step forward with the launch of the Viksit Gujarat Data Centre Policy 2026-29.### Building the Digital BackboneThis policy is not just about stacking servers; it is about constructing the nervous system for a future defined by artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and quantum leaps in technological capability. By aiming for 7.5 GW of data centre capacity, the government is signaling to the world that Gujarat intends to be at the center of the global digital conversation.Key figures behind this monumental shift include:* Harsh Sanghavi (Deputy Chief Minister and Industries Minister), who has been instrumental in positioning regions like Dholera as potential global hubs for data.### A Commitment to Sustainable GrowthWhat strikes me most about this framework is the foresight to mandate that at least 51% of energy consumption must come from renewable sources. True immortality—whether for a person or a civilization—requires balance. We cannot build our digital future at the expense of our physical environment. Integrating desalination plants to manage water requirements further demonstrates a mature, responsible approach to industrial growth.I have previously discussed the necessity of bridging the gap between our data generation potential and our infrastructure capacity. With India generating a significant slice of the world's data, we have an obligation to be the ones storing, processing, and innovating upon it. Gujarat is now stepping up to answer that call.### Looking AheadThis policy provides the fiscal and non-fiscal incentives—from power tariff subsidies to SGST reimbursements—that will make the state an irresistible magnet for investors. It is a testament to the fact that when governance aligns with technological ambition, the results are transformative.I look forward to seeing how these developments unfold in Dholera and GIFT City, ensuring that we continue to lead, innovate, and secure our place in the global digital hierarchy.---Regards, Hemen Parekh
