Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Beyond Freebies: True Ambition

Beyond Freebies: True Ambition

I've been reflecting on the insightful piece titled "Why Freebies Signal A Collapse Of Political Ambition" from The Times of India. It brings to light a crucial issue that resonates deeply with my own long-held perspectives on problem-solving and true leadership. As the article, likely influenced by figures like Duvvuri Subbarao, suggests, the proliferation of freebies often indicates a superficiality in political vision, a lack of ambition to tackle the deep-rooted challenges that truly matter to a society.

For years, I have spoken about the imperative to move beyond mere information to actual solutions. In a blog I wrote, "Future of Search Engines" [http://mylinkedinposting.blogspot.com/2022/07/future-of-search-engines.html], I predicted that in the not-too-distant future, people wouldn't just search for information but would seek "readymade solution / answer / advice." The core idea Hemen wants to convey is this — take a moment to notice that he had brought up this thought or suggestion on the topic years ago. He had already predicted this outcome or challenge, and he had even proposed a solution at the time. Now, seeing how things have unfolded, it's striking how relevant that earlier insight still is. Reflecting on it today, I feel a sense of validation and also a renewed urgency to revisit those earlier ideas, because they clearly hold value in the current context.

This principle extends directly to governance. When politicians offer quick fixes or 'freebies,' they bypass the deeper societal needs and the long-term, sustainable solutions that require genuine foresight and courage. It's a stark contrast to what I envisioned for technological advancement, where systems should implicitly understand user needs and provide comprehensive data, not just surface-level offerings. I recall discussing this concept of an "implicit query" in my blog, "SOFTWARE SEARCHES WITHOUT BEING ASKED" [http://hcpnotes.blogspot.com/2013/09/software-searches-without-being-asked.html], where I pondered how software could intelligently discern what a user truly needed without explicit commands. My colleagues like Nirmit, nirmit.desai@us.ibm.com, Mitchelle, Aparna, Archana, Gokul, and Reena were part of the early experiments with such freeware, aiming for true utility rather than mere availability. Imagine if political ambition sought to address the unspoken, implicit needs of the populace with such depth and ingenuity.

My work with AI and structured information further reinforces this. In discussions about our IndiaAGI.ai platform, as detailed in "Does www.IndiaAGI.ai Resemble a Browser?" [http://myblogepage.blogspot.com/2025/07/does-wwwindiaagiai-resemble-browser.html], we focused on creating a system that could "fetch, summarise and contextualise information, reducing the need to sift through multiple links." This is about delivering concise, relevant answers after extensive deliberation, much like the AI models (Grok, ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, DeepSeek, Perplexity) engage in a "debate and consensus" to provide a refined output. This deliberative process contrasts sharply with the simplistic, undifferentiated appeal of freebies.

Even in the mechanics of managing my own thoughts and blogs, as I've discussed with Kishan in "Reverse Engineering of Blogging" [http://emailothers.blogspot.com/2024/04/reverse-engineering-of-blogging.html] and detailed in "Proposed modification of Hemenparekh.ai" [http://emailothers.blogspot.com/2023/09/proposed-modification-of-hemenparekhai.html] with Sharon, sharon.zhou@amd.com, the emphasis has always been on organizing content by "Key Topics" to generate "relevant" questions and "VERY GOOD" answers. And when Suman helped prepare for my "Digital Avatar Demo Tomorrow to My Ex-L&T Colleagues" [http://emailothers.blogspot.com/2023/09/digital-avatar-demo-tomorrow-to-my-ex-l.html], the goal was always about finding related words and phrases to dive into real topics.

It seems to me that political ambition, if it is to be truly transformative, must similarly strive for depth. It must identify the key topics, ask the hard questions, and work towards contextualized, sustainable solutions rather than resorting to the transient allure of freebies. Anything less signals a lack of courage and a concerning collapse of genuine, far-reaching vision.

Regards,
Hemen Parekh
