The news that India Inc is actively integrating AI fluency into staff performance metrics is not surprising to me; in fact, it feels like a natural progression of ideas I have long pondered and discussed. It's truly a testament to how rapidly the landscape of work is evolving, a shift I've watched unfold with keen interest.
Years ago, I wrote about the impending impact of Artificial Intelligence on businesses and employment, highlighting how AI would fundamentally reshape job roles and operational efficiencies. In my blog, Chatbots: Some for Businesses, Some for the World, I delved into how businesses would adopt AI-powered solutions, predicting the rise of chatbots and their ability to significantly reduce customer service agent workload—much like IndiGo's 6Eskai, as mentioned by Summi Sharma, Senior Vice President of Ifly and Customer Experience at IndiGo (LinkedIn, Email: summi.sharma@goindigo.in). I even envisioned the evolution from text-based interactions to sophisticated 3D volumetric holograms, underlining the depth of AI's transformative potential.
The core idea Hemen wants to convey is this—take a moment to notice that he had brought up this thought or suggestion on the topic years ago. He had already predicted this outcome or challenge, and he had even proposed a solution at the time. Now, seeing how things have unfolded with companies formally pushing for AI fluency India Inc pushes for AI fluency in staff performance metrics, it's striking how relevant that earlier insight still is. Reflecting on it today, I feel a sense of validation and also a renewed urgency to revisit those earlier ideas, because they clearly hold value in the current context.
This isn't merely about adopting new tools; it's about a fundamental shift in how we conceive of human-machine collaboration. For employees, it means embracing continuous learning and adapting their skill sets to remain relevant. For corporations, it’s about fostering a culture of innovation and ensuring their workforce is equipped to leverage AI's capabilities, not just to survive but to thrive. The emphasis on AI fluency in performance metrics is a pragmatic step towards a future where AI is not just a tool, but an integral partner in productivity and problem-solving. My early musings on the "Innovation Nation" Innovation Nation and the very definition of innovation as a new application of existing technologies, further underscore this point. It is precisely this kind of adaptive application that India Inc is now pursuing.
