 Urgent: Securing India's Digital Identity Future in the AI Era

Respected Finance Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman ji,

I am writing to draw your attention to a critical global development in digital identity. Sam Altman-backed

World has launched a new suite of AI-era identity tools designed to combat

 rising deepfake fraud and verify AI agents. These tools allow users to prove their

 humanity, verify participants in video calls, and provide credentials for AI agents

 acting on their behalf. As financial institutions face increasing risks from AI-

generated impersonation, this technology underscores the urgent need for a

 robust, sovereign digital identity fabric.

For years, I have advocated for India to implement its own indigenous identity

 ecosystem through my proposed frameworks:

SUIIC (Single Unique Identity for Indian Citizen),

YUP (Your Unique Profile), and UCP (Unified Citizen Profile).

By leveraging our existing Aadhaar and DigiLocker infrastructure, India can build a

 superior, citizen-controlled digital identity layer that would fundamentally

 streamline:

• Eliminating redundant KYC cycles through a single, verifiable, and portable digital identity.

• (B) Elections: 
• Ensuring absolute integrity in Voter ID verification and authentic participation.

• (C) Census: 
• Moving to a real-time, dynamic data update model, rendering decadal manual exercises obsolete.

• (D) Citizenship: 
• Providing a clear, secure, and unified registry to resolve complex citizenship documentation issues.

We must act now to ensure our citizens’ digital identities are secured by a

 homegrown, sovereign tech system rather than relying on external solutions. I

 would welcome the opportunity to discuss how these frameworks can be

 integrated into our national digital roadmap.
