Congratulations on Progressive Agricultural Land Acquisition Policy for Infrastructure Projects

Dear Dr. Mohan Yadav,

Please accept my congratulations on the Government of Madhya Pradesh’s recent initiative to offer compensation at four times the market value for agricultural land acquired for infrastructure projects.

I have long advocated for a more equitable and participatory approach to land acquisition that ensures farmers are not only fairly compensated but also retain a sense of ownership and long-term benefit from the projects developed on their land.

Back in March 2015, I submitted a proposal to Shri Nitin Gadkariji, suggesting a model where farmers receive a comprehensive compensation package. My suggestion included:

• Cash Compensation: Providing immediate, attractive cash compensation (calculated as 4 times the value of the land).
• Long-term Security: Depositing a significant portion of this compensation as fixed deposits in the farmers' accounts to ensure recurring income and sustained livelihood.
• Continued Ownership: Creating a Cooperative Society for affected farmers, which would hold shares in the project’s Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV). This would provide farmers with representation and a continued stake in the project’s success, facilitating quicker and more collaborative project implementation.

It is heartening to see Madhya Pradesh implementing a policy that aligns with the core principle of providing four times the market value, which I believe is a significant step toward making infrastructure development both fair to farmers and faster to execute.

I believe that models like these—which respect the rights and aspirations of our farming community—are the key to national progress. I commend your government's commitment to farmer-friendly infrastructure growth.
