Hi Friends,

Even as I launch this today ( my 80th Birthday ), I realize that there is yet so much to say and do. There is just no time to look back, no time to wonder,"Will anyone read these pages?"

Adobe's New Creative Lead

Adobe's New Creative Lead

Why this appointment matters to me

News that Adobe has named a new vice president to lead its Creative Products Group in India stopped me for a moment. I write about technology, creativity and how AI reshapes work — and this move feels like more than an internal shuffle. It signals a recommitment to India as a strategic hub for product engineering, creative tools and AI-driven experiences.[^1]

What I’m watching

  • India as a product engine: Adobe’s India teams already touch design, imaging, video and generative-AI initiatives. Scaling leadership in-country reinforces that India isn’t just a delivery center — it’s where product direction, design sensibilities and large-scale engineering come together.

  • AI-first creative experiences: The new leadership will work on flagship creative products and AI initiatives that matter to creators — from image and video workflows to generative models that augment imagination. This is the space where human craft and machine suggestion meet, and it raises questions about craft, authorship and ethical design.

  • Cross-company talent migration: When leaders move from large platform companies into creative-product roles, they bring hard-earned lessons about reliability at scale, platform thinking and the expectations of millions of users. That kind of systems-level rigor paired with creative-first thinking can accelerate product maturity.

Why it resonates with my long-standing themes

I’ve written before about the intersection of AI and human workflows and the need for empathy when building tools for people who create professionally and casually alike.[^2] This appointment validates what I’ve been observing: companies are building leadership that must straddle deep engineering discipline and sensitivity to creative practice. That balance is hard, and it’s precisely where the most interesting product gains happen.

A few hopes (and gentle challenges)

  • Prioritise creators, not just features: Tools must empower creative decisions, not automate them away. I hope the India teams retain a creator-first ethos as they scale.

  • Invest in trust and transparency around AI: As generative capabilities are woven into Photoshop, video and imaging pipelines, clear signals about provenance, editability and control will determine whether creators adopt or resist new features.

  • Celebrate local voice and global reach: India brings an enormous range of cultural, visual and storytelling traditions. Leadership in India should make that diversity visible in global product roadmaps.

A personal lens

As someone building a digital presence and experimenting with AI-powered interfaces, I’m excited to see product leaders anchored in India shaping global creative tools. The apps we use influence how we think about making — from a quick social clip to work that defines a career. Leadership choices like this one ripple into classrooms, studios and small businesses across the country.

If you’re following this story, look for signals over the next months: product hires in India, new engineering blogs or technical posts from the creative teams, and features that foreground creator control and transparency. Those will tell you whether this appointment is strategic or symbolic.
