From Allocation to Outcome: A 10% Farm Income Target for FY 2026–27
===================================================
Respected Shri Chouhan ji,
Warm regards.
The Union Budget’s allocation of approximately ₹1,40,529 crore towards
agriculture and allied sectors for FY 2026–27 reflects a strong and continued
commitment to farmer welfare.
At the same time, recent trends suggest that the underlying momentum in farm
income growth has remained in a relatively modest range over the past few
years.
In this context, may I respectfully submit a suggestion:
👉 That the Ministry consider formally declaring a 10% increase in average
farm income for FY 2026–27 as a national outcome target.
Such a declaration could serve as a powerful anchor to align schemes, state-level
execution, and monitoring systems toward a single measurable objective.
India has successfully adopted mission-mode targets in several sectors. A clearly
stated farm income growth target could similarly transform agricultural policy
from expenditure-driven to outcome-driven.
I would be grateful if this idea may be considered.
Warm regards,
Hemen Parekh
